Detailed Description
Reporting to the Senior Manager – Foundation Programmes, Working across both the Safaricom and MPESA Foundations, the role holder is responsible for implementation of the strategies, advocacy of the strategic pillars, thought leadership within the pillar, stakeholder engagement, Monitoring and evaluation.
Responsibilities
Project/programme Management
- Development of different programmes and projects based on the Foundations’ strategy and or investment frameworks
- End to end Management of Foundations projects and programmes cutting across all philanthropy and strategic programmes/projects according to the Foundations’ project/programme identification guidelines
- Manage Foundation partners’ work plans to ensure alignment with financial disbursements – reviews, reporting, dashboards
- End to end Management of respective strategic pillar programmes – development, partnerships, implementation, budgets, M&E and reporting
- Technical advisory and programmatic support to the Foundation’s projects and programmes
- Develop and implement knowledge sharing culture among the Foundations’ partners in the Foundations’ strategic areas of focus related to national, regional and international priorities
- Lead the delivery of the respective region’s CSI engagement for impactful projects/programmes
- Manage research on programmes/projects to include contextual research on topical areas related to the Foundations’ strategies to ensure that investments remain aligned to local and global priorities
Communications
- overall positioning of the Foundations’ mission as a caring partner, including stakeholder engagement, public relations, internal and external communications (in collaboration with the Corporate Communications department)
- In partnership with the Communications team, manage timely and quality implementation of the Foundations’ communication strategy (print and digital) – content, updates, reviews in liaison with the respective agencies
- Lead, in liaison with the agency and business partner the development of the Foundations’ and relevant Safaricom PLCs’ publications – annual reports, flyers, bi-annual magazine – preparation of briefing, follow up
Partnerships and special projects
- Identify and manage new and existing Foundations’ partnerships
- Manage the ISO 26000 engagement within the Foundations for continuous improvement – audits, trainings
- Represent the Foundations in key meetings and forums
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university preferably in Social Sciences, Public Administration, Communications, Sociology, and International relations with 6 years’ experience
- Four years of project management experience and working experience in a busy environment
- Certification/post graduate diploma in project management, Philanthropy project management, Monitoring & Evaluation by a recognized professional body will be an added advantage

- Drive Sustainable Development Goals initiatives related to environmental management with focus on SDG12 Responsible Consumption and Production and Climate Action
- Lead implementation and ensuring certification of Safaricom Environmental Management System in line with the requirements of ISO 14000 standard
- Ensuring that all requisite environmental due diligence and risk assessment of network operations are conducted
- Coordinate the implementation of the Environmental Management initiatives across the business
- Manage and grow Safaricom’s e-waste management programme
- Coordinate, track and report on the environment pillar of the sustainability initiative
- Drive partnerships with lead environment agencies from government, private, civil society and UN agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Sciences, Environmental studies.
- A postgraduate degree, diploma or certificates in courses in environmental matters within a highly technical industry will be an added advantage.
- A registered Associate environmental expert with NEMA; Excellent knowledge of NEMA regulations and provisions of the EMCA 19 99;
- At least 3-4 years’ experience in the environmental compliance sector for the manufacturing, ,construction or ICT sector or large scale industry;
- At least 1 year of process management experience;

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Sustainability and Partnerships, the position holder will be responsible for; managing the integration of sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals in the business, Tracking and reporting on the progress of the various SDGs and sustainability initiative, driving internal and external engagements on sustainability and SDGs through various partners, coordinating and management of the Sustainability Working Group to deliver the various projects in the sustainability action plan, tracking and reporting on the progress of sustainability and SDGs integration, develop, track and implement the work plans for the road safety program and researching on best international practices on sustainability and implementation of the strategies and best practices.
Responsibilities
Project Management
- Development and implementation of the Sustainability and SDGs work plans in line with the overall strategy
- Working with the business units in integrating SDGs and sustainability and objectives
- Manage and grow Safaricom’s sustainability profile
- Driving staff engagement and awareness on SDGs and Sustainability through the Sustainability Working Group across the business
- Identifying and pursuing opportunities for sustainability integration
- Management and coordination of the Sustainability Working Group for the implementation of the sustainability strategy
- Overall coordination of the secretariat and the Board of the National Road Safety Trust
- Line managing the National Road Safety Program Project Officer
Information Management
- Tracking and reporting on the achievements made in achieving the SDGs targets set by the various business units
- End to end delivery of the annual Sustainability Report
- Delivery of the bi-annaul reports to Ex-CO on the progress of the achievement of SDGs commitments by the various business units
- Development and roll out of key sustainability assets targeting both internal and external stakeholders in advancing sustainability engagement
- Research and benchmarking on best practices in sustainability/SDGs integration and reporting
Partnerships Management
- Stakeholder mapping and management of relationships by ensuring appropriate and timely information sharing across the board.
- Identifying and follow up on value based partnership opportunities in the private and public sectors and beyond for the sustainability docket
- Managing partnerships and engagements geared towards influencing the business ecosystem for adoption sustainability and SDGs
PR and Communication
- Working with the PR and Comms team to identify opportunities for articulating the sustainability vision across the business
- Work with the PR and Comms team to build and drive engagement through digital sustainability assets and other channels across the business
- Liaise with the PR and Comms team to ensure timely update of information on the digital assets
Marketing
- Liaise with the marketing team and external creative agency to ensure delivery of strong internal and external creative campaigns for identified sustainability issues and cascade across the business in partnership with the relevant business units
- Working with the Brand marketing team to identify opportunities for integrating sustainability in brand communications
Events Execution.
Work with the event team to ensure excellent delivery of relevant sustainability and SDGs events
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology
- Two to five years’ experience in social policy issues
- Project and process management skills
- Demonstrable experience in management of budgets in large projects
- Good internal, cross functional and partner management skills
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- A highly motivated person with a positive attitude towards work
- Innovative, creative, results oriented with excellent analytical skills
- A proven team player
- Strong interest in research and social sciences
- Knowledge on projecting budgets.
