    Consultant Pediatrician

    Job Description

    The job holder will be expected to provide quality Paediatric services to both outpatients and inpatients; and assist in ensuring smooth operations in the clinical department and contribute positively to business strategy.

    Job Educational Requirements           

    1. MMed in Paediatrics and Child Health care from a recognized institution
    2. Specialist Recognition by the Kenya Medical Practitioners' and Dentists' Board.
    3. Registered, licenced and retained by the Kenya Medical Practitioners Board.

    Job Experience        

    1. At least 2 years’ post graduate working experience in a busy facility.

    Skills and Capacity Building (Initially 70% of your time, but this will be reduced as capacity is built)

    1. Draft protocols in relation to development of our neonatal nursery in accordance with risk specifications of the hospital;
    2. Draft protocols in relation to handling of paediatric patients in relation to outpatient services;
    3. Provide training to our clinical workforce and assist with curriculum development to promote continuous training and monitoring, provided via the Clinical Educator;
    4. Draft drills to assist with upskilling existing clinical workforce.

    Clinical Work (initially 30% of your time, but will increase as our hospital network grows)

    1. Conduct regular thorough examinations on newborns and young children to check and record their health and normal physical development;
    2. Examine sick children to determine their condition and ask intuitive questions to gather information about symptoms;
    3. Reach an informed diagnosis based on scientific knowledge and individual medical history;
    4. Prescribe medications and give detailed instructions for administration;
    5. Prescribe and interpret appropriate lab tests to gain more information for possible infections or abnormalities;
    6. Examine and treat injuries and refer the little patients to physicians of other disciplines when necessary (e.g. surgeons, ophthalmologists, orthopaedists etc.);
    7. Advise parents on children’s diet, exercise and disease preventive measures;
    8. Keep updated records of patients’ illnesses, surgeries or other medical episodes (allergic shocks, injuries etc.);
    9. Keep abreast of advancements in paediatrics and best practices by attending seminars and conferences
    10. Medical care will conform to best practice and meet contract target and service specifications;
    11. A preliminary discharge summary will be issued to each patient prior to them leaving hospital, in accordance with service specifications;
    12. Coordinating and managing emergency patients in the inpatient and outpatient and ensuring client referral is effective;
    13. The referring doctor will be kept informed of inpatient and outpatient progress;
    14. Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with all staff and patients and ensure clients have a good customer experience at Jacaranda Maternity;
    15. Ensure that patients are kept fully informed of and understand all procedures and treatments to be undertaken. Informed Consent will be obtained from patients in accordance with Jacaranda policy;
    16. Maintain patient rights, and be aware of cultural differences when dealing with patients.
    17. Should you receive or become aware of complaints relating to the standard of care and/or the treatment of patients, or professional attitudes toward staff, these shall be referred to the Chief Executive Officer and discussed with the Senior Management Team;
    18. Liaise with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment;
    19. A maximum of 20 min response time for emergencies on scheduled shifts.

    GYN Surgery and High Risk Obstetrics Coordinator

    Job Description

    The coordinator’s main responsibilities are to improve the operational efficiency of the gynaecology clinic and ensure continuity of care for high risk patients to provide a seamless patient journey for outpatient and inpatient care. This role will evolve to meet the needs of multiple facilities.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Manage GYN daily clinic schedule;
    2. Facilitate completion of ancillary testing prior to consultation;
    3. Obtain targeted clinical information prior to consultation;
    4. Assist with ‘dating campaign’ to ensure accurate pregnancy dating of all clients at each ANC visit;
    5. Assist with increased utilization of EMR;
    6. Ensure real-time efficiency of doctor’s clinic;
    7. Support GYN clinic processes and systems;
    8. Maintain GYN clinic log book;
    9. Provide clear communication to clients regarding clinic processes along with customer service in the event of emergencies or long waits;
    10. Maintain theatre schedule;
    11. Manage the theatre booking system for private doctors
    12. Create daily theatre schedule to be used by theatre team;
    13. Coordinate preoperative process/instructions and maintain close communication with clients to ensure completion of preoperative requirements;
    14. Maintain high risk obstetrics list and facilitate continuity of care plans;
    15. Coordinate high risk obstetrics meeting for review of patient plans;
    16. Assist with coordination of GDM clinic and BG monitoring project;

    Requirements

    1. Midwife/nurse with 5 years of work experience in obstetric care;
    2. Must have outpatient experience, inpatient maternity experience is a plus;
    3. Must have experience working with computers, EMR, email, Microsoft excel and word skills are highly valued;
    4. Excellent time management skills are mandatory as are interpersonal and communication skills;
    5. Ideal candidate has experience working with a diverse care team and has managed high risk patients. Direct experience with gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, and other high risk obstetric conditions.
