    CSSD Technician, CSSD

    Responsibilities:

    • Collect, dirty instruments from the units, sort classify and decontaminate all soiled instruments
    • Confirm the type of instrument collected from the relevant units and complete the required documentation
    • Ensure effective infection control protocols and proper use of PPE and always apply universal precautions when performing duties.
    • Use appropriate detergents and decontamination process as per the laid down guidelines and procedures to wash and decontaminate instruments and equipment.
    • Inspect instruments for function and damage, lubricate instruments as required
    • Inspects washer/disinfector machines and refills disinfectant solutions
    • Pack sets as per the checklist
    • Select the recommended material for packaging, Pack, seal and label the tray with the stated details: name of set/technician, processing date and expiry
    • Apply autoclaving indicator tape on each outer wrap
    • Monitor and Confirm quality check has been done in accordance with the guideline
    • Maintain records as per the guidelines.
    • Alerts the Manager about incidences and any other unusual occurrences in the unit.
    • Participates in unit-based quality improvement projects
    • Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

    Requirements:

    • Minimum grade D- (D Minus)
    • CSSD Technician course
    • Licensed by Kenya Health Professional Oversight Authority
    • Registered by Perioperative Technician and Technologist Association of Kenya
    • 1-year experience in health care related field, or same role in a health care facility is preferred

    Home Health Nurse, Home Care Health Services

    Position Summary

    The AKUH@Home field nurse aims to provide care that is compassionate, safe, ethical, patient- and family-centered, culturally congruent and evidence-based to enhance quality of life, augment accessibility and continuity of care, and improve patient outcome. The position holder will be responsible for providing community based services which include comprehensive nursing assessment, patient advocacy, exquisite care-coordination of medical care teams, routine medication administration and supportive care measures under clinical supervision.

    Responsibilities:

    • Perform comprehensive patient and environmental assessments related to home health needs
    • Develop care plan in consultation with clinician
    • Coordinate and implement care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum, utilizing nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation)
    • Provide nursing care, administer medication and perform routine clinical procedures (including vital signs, I/V cannulation, access ports, IV drug/fluid administration, phlebotomy, collection and handling of specimens, etc.) according to program policies within the prescribed plan, in the home setting
    • Monitor the patient's physiological, physical and emotional response to treatment and identify patterns and trends. Able to pick up early warning signs and seek immediate support
    • Evaluates patient’s response to plan of care and works in collaboration with the primary clinician to make any needed adjustments
    • Support the patient and family (including psychosocial support) through disease progression, symptom management, advanced care planning and life closure, as appropriate
    • Identifies learning needs of the patient and families and educates them by adapting to patient and family learning style utilizing the teach-back method.
    • Fulfil safety and regulatory requirements: Perform initial and routine safety checks to ensure compliance and to assess and maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff in accordance with regulatory and institutional health standards.
    • Ensure appropriate handling and disposal of biological and hazardous specimens/materials
    • Oversee inventory management and facilitate maintenance of clinical supplies
    • Ensure all near-misses, accidents, incidents and complaints are reported and to assist in the timely investigation and closure of same.
    • Manage and maintain patient records for each visit

    Requirements:

    • KRCHN/RN/BScN from a recognized school of nursing or University
    • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Minimum requirement of 3 years’ continuous clinical experience in medical surgical Nursing. Experience in oncology, home care and/or palliative care is preferred

    Lab Assistant, Pathology

    Responsibilities:

    • Clear the Apheresis waste at regular intervals on instructions from Nurse-In-Charge of the blood donor unit.
    • Collect used glassware from laboratory sections and autoclave, wash, dry, sterilize and render clean for use with appropriate labels where necessary.
    • Prepare laboratory glassware and plastic ware for procedures by adding appropriate chemicals and adequately labeling use by laboratory personnel and patients.
    • Prepare microbiology media and, ensuring adequate storage and adequate quantities at all times.
    • Distribute test specimen in Laboratory Information System (LIS) and in the appropriate sections of the laboratory for analysis from the main Laboratory and Laboratory collection sites.
    • Ensure proper charging of histology samples from Theatre, Daycare and Endoscopy units as directed by the Histology team in the Laboratory Information System.
    • Ensure biohazard waste is properly packaged, treated, labeled and safely ferried to the collection site for disposal.
    • Assist the Laboratory sections in the running and maintaining of the Quality system as would be directed by the Quality Assurance office and the section heads.
    • Any other assignment as shall be assigned by the supervisor within the department.

    Requirements:

    • KCSE Mean Grade of at least C- or an equivalent.
    • At least 2 years of working experience, preferably in a laboratory.
    • Must be a good team player.
    • Must be good nurtured, flexible and pro-active.
    • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Computer knowledge
