    Crop Protection Manager – Simba Farm

    Your tasks and responsibilities

    • Plan weekly spray programs for all crops in consultation with the Farm manager.
    • Maintain high standards of spraying by ensuring proper spray coverage, use of correct spray volumes and zero loss or spillage of chemicals.
    • Ensure transportation and disposal of chemical products residuals within the farm are well handled
    • Develop and implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to protect various crops.
    • Monitor crops for identification of major pest and disease challenges at the farm.
    • Ensure the spray equipment is always in a serviceable state so that they are well maintained in order to have a smooth spray operation.
    • Participate, coordinate and manage all activities that fall in the domain of the spray department. •
    • Prepare and submit monthly reports to the Farm Manager.
    • Continuous supervision and training of the crop protection team for optimum results and safety of the spray team.
    • Monitor, in collaboration with the greenhouse management team the spray areas in the greenhouses if infestation is controlled.
    • Report without delay to the Farm manager when he/she encounters a problem in relation to spraying activities
    • Prepare annual chemical and PPE requirements of the department at the start of new budget year

    Your Profile

    • Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Crop Protection, Agronomy, or a related field. 
    • Over 5 years in a similar role within a commercial vegetable farming environment. 
    • Proven track record in crop protection or pest management within horticulture farms, preferably in Veg section
    • Self-motivated, strategic thinker with excellent crisis management skills and able to bring solutions to the table.
    • Familiarity with pesticide regulations, safety protocols and environmental stewardship principles.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and diverse agricultural environment.
    • Strong administration, site management and people management skills with proven delivery on targets within a strict timeframe.

    Production Manager (Avocado) – Simba Farm

    Your tasks and responsibilities

    • General plant hygiene and health, Observing and monitoring plant health for signs of stress, disease or Pest incursion
    • Plant nutrition and pest control activities as agreed with your immediate senior manager
    • The utilization, management and maintenance of the irrigation system, spraying equipment, field working tools etc
    • Quality control and proper handling of harvested fruits,
    • Training new techniques and methodologies like propping, pruning, harvesting, weeding, mulching, field drainage etc.
    • Establishment of an avocado crop model to monitor the phenological growth stages throughout the season
    • Adhere to a robust avocado gap-filling/infilling program aimed at maintaining a uniform stand of trees across the orchard
    • Source for Avocado scions for grafting from a reputable source
    • Plan and forecast Avocado seedling grafting and delivery as per the seasonal demands.
    • Ensure that all labour in the section is effective and efficient and that all staff achieve the recommended daily tasks.
    • Train staff in organic farming, grafting, pruning, crop management and all other practices required from time to time.
    • Manage the day-to-day operations of the orchard such as nursery management, transplanting, irrigation, fertilizer application, pest management and harvesting.
    • Assist the agronomy team to ensure that pest control is well managed. And all pests and diseases are always kept below threshold.
    • Monitor irrigation and the scheduling of irrigation based on crop requirements and stages of production.
    • Deeper agricultural knowledge of the avocado crop husbandry and seasons in East Africa
    • In-depth understanding of the avocado husbandry practices.
    • Ensure the orchard operations adhere to standards of all agricultural audit’s guidelines
    • Handle and address any deviation on standards

    Your profile

    • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years’ hands-on experience in orchard or plantation management, preferably in avocado or fruit crop production.
    • Proven experience in crop husbandry practices such as pruning, grafting, irrigation management, and pest/disease control.
    • Experience in managing farm labour teams, ensuring productivity, compliance, and safety standards are met.
    • Strong understanding of avocado crop growth stages, phenological monitoring, and seasonal planning.
    • Proficiency in irrigation scheduling, fertilizer application, and pest & disease management.
    • Ability to manage inventory, tools, and field equipment, ensuring proper utilization and maintenance.
    • Sound knowledge of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Global GAP, and other agricultural audit standards.
    • Excellent people management skills, including staff supervision, training, and performance monitoring
    • Hands-on, proactive, and results-oriented approach to orchard management.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a passion for continuous learning and improvement.
