    Open MRS/React JS Developer

    Ref: AD/2/8/23

    The Position

    Reporting to the Principal Investigator, or his delegated authority appointee, the OpenMRS/ReactJS Developer shall be responsible for ensuring the alignment of web design and user experience requirements, optimizing web pages for maximum efficiency and maintaining consistency across all pages. He/she will be required to work other team members including Backend Developers, UX Designers, and Business analysts to ensure project requirements are met consistently. The developer shall also ensure that the different software developed conforms to country software development standards by conducting rigorous diagnosis, tests, code debugging, and technical documentation through reference manuals. The developer must be able to demonstrate their skills and show proof of their OpenMRS work.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with Senior OpenMRS Developer and other developers to design software solutions by studying information needs; systems flow, data usage, and work processes while adhering to the software development lifecycle
    • Work to ensure that the structure and design of web pages, ensuring user experience determines design choices
    • Develop features to enhance the user experience, with the right balance between functional and aesthetic design.
    • Optimize web pages for maximum speed and scalability 
    • Develop workflows from data collection forms, clinical dashboards with decision support summaries, monitoring and clinical reports
    • Support the piloting, rollout and maintenance of HIS systems in public health facilities.
    • Work with HIS business analysts and developers to investigate, analyse and make recommendations to management regarding technology improvements, upgrades and modifications
    • Work with HIS business analysts to analyse user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
    • Work with Senior OpenMRS developer to prepare reference materials for end and technical users by writing operating instructions, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code
    • Undertake such other tasks within the scope of the role as directed by leadership from time to time.

    Required Academic Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s degree in either; Computer Science, Software Engineering, Informatics, or Information Computer Technology

    Experience

    • A minimum of one (1) year of experience using Java, Spring, Hibernate, ReactJs, TypeScript as a software developer
    • Experience with deployment of OpenMRS and development of OpenMRS Modules
    • Ability to speak to high level leadership who may need technical descriptions and developments translated to ease understanding and acceptance
    • Advanced experience in developing data-driven applications utilizing significant relational database engines as part of the overall application architecture (experience with any or all of the following highly desirable: PostgreSQL, MySQL)
    • Experience in managing online platforms holding large numbers of users will be added advantage

    Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    • Working experience using Java, Spring, Hibernate, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and ReactJS, Git, Restful web services, Agile methodology, Maven,
    • Advanced knowledge and demonstrable skill with popular open source programming languages (must include JavaScript)
    • Proficiency developing and troubleshooting complex software systems that run in mixed-environments including Linux, Unix and/or Windows on desktop, server, tablet, and mobile systems
    • Experience with both back-end and front-end development will be an added advantag

    Senior Project Administrator

    Ref: AD/2/9/23

    The Position

    Reporting to the Principal Investigator, or his delegated authority appointee, the Study Administrator will be responsible for day-to-day personnel and operations administration. He/she will handle all official correspondence, procurement, maintenance of equipment, control of issue and usage of office supplies, record keeping, vehicle maintenance, communication and general running of the project activities

    Responsibilities

    • Maintain personnel, facilities, supplies and equipment records
    • Ordering of supplies and liaising with suppliers.
    • Keep inventories of facilities, supplies and equipment.
    • Review transport/vehicle records from the driver on a daily basis
    • Review of office running expense records (from the receptionist)
    • Administration of transport, meetings and training sessions
    • Liaise with relevant offices to facilitate contracts and grant management.
    • Ensure employee welfare and safety
    • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time to support the program by the Principal Investigator.

    Required Academic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university preferably in business administration, management, Information Computer Technology or an equivalent.

    OR

    • Higher Diploma in Business Administration, Project Management or related field

    Required Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    • At least three (3) years of experience using computer packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher
    • Minimum three (3) years working experience in a similar position preferably in a donor funded project in a research institute or an institution of higher learning for degree holders
    • Minimum Four (4) years working experience in a similar position preferably in a donor funded project in a research institute or an institution of higher learning for higher diploma holders
    • High level computer and internet skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, Skilled group leader, organizational skills, ability to multi-task, ability to proactively identify and solve problems.
    • Prior experience in health-related projects will be an advantage

    In-Country Partner Coordinator

    Ref: AD/2/10/23

    The Position

    Due to the HIS landscape in Kenya and the various stakeholders and partners, it is expected that a considerable amount of coordination between stakeholders is required implement all the activities. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, or his delegated authority appointee, this person will support CDC Kenya office to coordinate and support project activities. Although this person will be hired by University of Nairobi through HISTAC Project, the person will be responsible for facilitating cross-collaboration within all partners under the broader Technical Assistance Consortium consisting of Partners for Appropriate Technologies in Health (PATH) and JEMBI

    Responsibilities

    • Assist CDC Kenya and CDC HQ to coordinate, support, and manage in-country TAP activities
    • Assist with identifying and analyzing project-specific issues or concerns and their impact on operations; work with implementing partners, CDC HQ, and CDC Kenya on solutions
    • Schedule, prepare, attend, manage, record, and share country-specific TAP meetings/calls at both Administrative and Technical Levels.
    • Knowledge management using Redmine project management software to capture meeting notes, recordings, and other TAP inputs and outputs using Redmine and support CDC Kenya, Technical leads, Implementing Partners and CDC Headquarters (HQ) Point of contacts use Redmine effectively
    • Assist with Ad hoc requests for country-specific project and partner coordination activities
    • Follow-up on country-specific activities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner
    • Tasks as requested by CDC Kenya points of contact

    Required Academic Qualifications

    • At least a Bachelor of Science degree in either Health Informatics, Information Computer Technology, Software Engineering, Project Management or related fields.
    • A postgraduate qualification in the fields above will be an added advantage.

    Required Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    • Mid-level professional with at least five (5) years of relevant IT project management (PM) experience in the health sector
    • Experience with health information solutions for monitoring and managing project execution, critical HIS activities, and OpenMRS interdependencies across multiple partners in Kenya.
    • Familiarity and/or experience with PEPFAR or other USG HIS, mHealth and e-health initiatives.
    • Familiarity and/or experience with informatics/software system projects, activities, terminology, and practices
    • Familiarity with KenyaEMR HIV platform, KenyaEMR non-HIV platform and COVID-19 OpenMRS leverage will be an added advantage.

    Business Analyst

    The Position

    Reporting to the Principal Investigator, or his delegated authority appointee, the Business Analyst will be responsible for bridging the gap between IT and the business using data analytics to assess processes, determine requirements and deliver data-driven recommendations and reports to the Project Management Team. This person will engage with key stakeholders to understand how data-driven changes to process, products, services, software and hardware can improve efficiencies and add value. They must articulate those ideas but also balance them against what’s technologically feasible and financially and functionally reasonable.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop requirements through modeling proposed data flows, workflow diagrams, and functional decomposition diagrams;
    • Determine operational objectives by studying clinical operations; gathering information; evaluating output requirements and formats
    • Work with the development and testing team to track requirements during the development process and support testing software against business, functional, and technical requirements;
    • Prepare technical reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and meeting reports.
    • Research, review and resolve software defects with the team of developers.

    Required Academic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in either; Business IT, Health Informatics; Monitoring and Evaluation; or Statistics

    Experience

    • At least two (2) years of experience in Business Analysis
    • Working experience with implementation of health-related donor-funded projects, data management and use, EMR Implementation/support, health informatics.
    • Strong analytical skills including analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.
    • Experience with OpenMRS deployment, National Data warehouse, scale-up, upgrades and user support.
    • Knowledge of data modelling, data visualization and reporting tools
    • Experience in web design will be an added advantage
