    Administrative Clerk/Chauffeur - All Interested Applicants

    Duties

    Job Overview

    • This position is in the American Embassy’s Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration requires advanced clerical and administrative support ability, driving proficiency and vehicle maintenance skills. The incumbent performs a variety of clerical and administrative support duties to support all Transportation Security Staff including, but not limited to, typing and preparing correspondence, filing documents, answering telephone calls and taking messages, making appointments, escorting visitors to Transportation Security Administration offices, host government offices, other diplomatic missions and assisting with Transportation Security Administration events, briefings and conferences. The incumbent drives vehicles to deliver and pick up persons (including the Regional Director, Africa Middle East, Administrative Management Specialist and other Transportation Security Administration staff from the region and headquarters and VIP visitors) and materials and ensures that the vehicles are maintained in top operating condition at all times. The incumbent will directly support or fill in for the Administrative Management Specialist with events and, or other substantive Transportation Security Administration work related to the regional office and other offices as may arise from time to time.

    Qualifications and Evaluations

    Requirements:

    EXPERIENCE:  

    • Five years of commercial driving experience with B, C, E license including one year experience driving four-wheel vehicles is required. Must also have at least one year clerical/administrative support experience.

    JOB KNOWLEDGE:  

    • Should have knowledge of various locations in Nairobi to include government office locations.

    Education Requirements:

    • Completion of secondary school is required.

    Evaluations:

    LANGUAGE:  

    • English: Level 3 - Good working knowledge; speaking, reading & writing.
    • Swahili: Level 2 - Limited knowledge; speaking, reading & writing.

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

    • Should have knowledge of basic auto mechanics, common safety practices with regard to vehicle operation and ability to ensure the safety of passengers.
    • Should have basic typing and clerical skills.
    • Should have basic computer knowledge to include Microsoft word, excel.

    Newsletter Editor (CLO Communications Assistant) (USEFMs Only)

    Duties

    Basic Function of Position

    • Works under the supervision and direction of the Community Liaison Office (CLO) Coordinator; the CLO Communications Assistant has no supervisory responsibilities. The CLO Communications Assistant is responsible for producing a weekly newsletter “The Roar” and managing website and social media content to promote Mission events and community wellbeing. Develops editorial calendar, organizes online content, and improves communication by maintaining mission-wide events calendar. Provides community members most current information available regarding life, activities, and events in Nairobi. Assists the CLO in the development, execution, and management of post programs to foster and maintain high morale of community members. Requires Public Trust Clearance.

    Qualifications and Evaluations

    Requirements:

    EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years of work experience in education, administration, public relations, media/communication, marketing or public/community outreach is required.

    JOB KNOWLEDGE: 

    Pre-hire (Operational):

    • Must understand and know how to design and update online media platforms including Face Book and web pages. Must be familiar with the general culture of the country, have information on interesting places in order to plan trips for the American community at the Mission. Have knowledge of civic and educational activities available.

    Post-hire (Organizational):

    • Ability to identify, assess and conceptualize how best to use the full range of information the Embassy Community needs or wants to move morale and the community in positive way. Must have good knowledge of Department of State and Mission Nairobi activities and electronic communication delivery systems.

    Education Requirements:

    • Completion of Secondary School is required.

    Evaluations:

    LANGUAGE:  Level IV (Fluent) speaking /writing/reading in English is required.

    PRE-HIRE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Ability to write clearly and effectively engaging, factual and informative articles.
    • Ability to identify, assess and conceptualize how best to use the full range of information the Embassy Community needs or wants to move morale and the community in positive way.
    • Must have excellent customer relations, interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills. Must have excellent written editorial and oral communication; ability to be resourceful and creative with digital marketing and engage in online forums. Keyboard skills with accuracy required.
    • Must be able to self-manage schedule. On the job training to gain familiarity with Sales Force, Adobe InDesign, Canva, Foreign Affairs Network (FAN) and other relevant online courses.
    • Knowledge of desktop publishing, Microsoft suite, databases, digital editing and social media platforms are required.

    Post-hire Skills and Abilities

    • On the job training to gain familiarity with the full range of Department of State and Mission Nairobi activities and electronic communication delivery systems.

    Qualifications:
