    Data Analyst

    Vacancy No: CGHR/133/02/20

    Program description: This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute, Henry Jackson Foundation MRI and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in Malaria, HIV, Tuberculosis and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the program has a vacancy in the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) Program.   

    REPORTS TO: Senior Data Manager  
     
    Job Summary:  The data analyst’s position requires the incumbent to perform various data management, processing and analysis functions for the CHAMPS program in an accurate and timely fashion.    
    Essential qualifications 

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related field from a recognized university  
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a busy data processing, management and analysis field.
    • Excellent knowledge and working experience of at least one statistical package for data manipulation and analysis (STATA, SPSS, SAS), database software (SQL server, MySQL, MS Access).  
    • Experience in cleaning data and performing quality assurance procedures  

    Desirable qualities  

    • Strong self-motivation and ability to work in a team, with good communication and interpersonal skills. 
    • Ability and willingness to quickly learn additional development skills and strategies on the job and be able to apply these.  
    • Experience working with electronic data collection systems in clinical settings 
    • Ability to meet strict deadlines   

     Specific duties and responsibilities  

    • Keep track of data entry timelines 
    • Provide technical support to all staff in terms of data access, manipulation, analysis etc  
    • Participate in design of data collection and capture tools as required.  
    • Liaising with partners and vendors in database changes or new developments.   
    • Provide period data metrics for all studies. 
    • Collate, query and clean data coming in from the field sites 
    • Training staff on appropriate data entry techniques 
    • Generate clean de-identified data files for export to external partners as required
    • Address and document routine problems arising in the course of data processing.  
    • Any other related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.   

    Terms of Employment: One (1) year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service and a Probation period for the first 3 months.

    Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within the relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.

    Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Community Health, Public Health, Project Management, Social Sciences, Epidemiology or related field
    • M& E specific training
    • Knowledge and experience in working with statistical software e.g. STATA/SAS/SPSS/R
    • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in M&E and/or program management

    POSITION SUMMARY:  
     
    The Monitoring & Evaluation Officer will be responsible to design and oversee all monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities, including ensuring full compliance with CHAMPS and Ministry of Health requirements, assisting coordinating team in defining outcome indicators and assessments that ensure proper evaluation. The office will ensure M&E component is well integrated within critical activities and monitored on a regular basis to ensure project impact. S/he will be required to work with all protocols affiliated to CHAMPS.
     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop a robust monitoring and evaluation plan for CHAMPS.
    • Monitor development and implementation of CHAMPS activities included in annual work plan with particular focus on results, impacts and lesson learning. 
    • Promote results-based approach to M&E, emphasizing on results and impacts.
    • Monitor implementation of CHAMPS data-to-action points and report on impact.
    • Follow up on monthly reports from staff on program progress against work plan and provide feedback highlighting areas of concern and progress and ensure their timely submission. 
    • Facilitate, design and implement M& E tools.
    • Undertake and facilitate the implementation of M&E plan, regularly revising and updating performance questions, indicators, methods and formats. 
    • Identify problems with the M&E system and modify the system, as necessary. 
    • Ensure that staff are receiving adequate support to be able to implement their M&E functions. 
    • Create a knowledge management strategy and framework.
    • Organize and provide refresher training in M&E for staff. 
    • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

    Clinical Officer

It involves conducting research and programmatic support for activities related to Malaria, HIV, Tuberculosis and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the program seeks to fill the position of a Clinical Officer within Antenatal Research Collaborative (ARC) study.
     
    Kenya Reports to:    STUDY COORDINATOR
     
    Essential Requirements: 

    • Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized Institution
    • Minimum of 3-year clinical experience, post internship in a busy clinical research environment
    • Be registered with Clinical Officers Council and in possession of a valid practicing license.
    • Experience with collection of high dimensional longitudinal data
    • Good interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and have a high standard for research ethics
    • Fluency in both English and Swahili, written and spoken. 
    • Strong leadership and excellent organizational skills 
    • Be interested and willing to work in a mortality and antenatal research study

    Desired Knowledge/Skills & Abilities

    • Ability to withstand postmortem procedures
    • Computer literacy, record keeping skills and meticulous attention to detail

    • Collection of high dimensional longitudinal clinical data
    • Making brief summary of the clinical cause of illness of the enrolled cases
    • Conducting detailed clinical data abstraction from the medical records of enrolled cases to a web based system or other databases.
    • Diagnose danger signs of pregnancy and make appropriate referral
    • Present clinical data to consultants
    • Deliver study determined causes of death to the family members of enrolled cases.
    • Support the process of study sensitization/feedback to the communities, health facilities, MOH leadership and other partners
    • Assess pregnancy, childbirth and healthcare-related factors that may affect outcomes for mothers or their babies
    • Provide basic triage to study participants 
    • Enroll and follow-up study participants 
    • Participate in antenatal, perinatal and post-natal care of study participants 
    • Maintain strict confidentiality and participants’ privacy
    • Maintain adequate quantities of required clinic supplies
    • Ensure high quality accurate data collection and recording of confidential clinical data
    • Develop and reviews study Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) 
    • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by immediate supervisor  

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

    Employment is a one (1) year renewable contract with probation period for the first 3 months.

    Nursing Officer I

    Reporting to: Study Coordinator
     
    Job purpose:  The incumbent will be responsible for providing nursing care to study participants, conducting antenatal, perinatal and post-natal care to mother and follow up for mother and baby pair.  He/she will participate in taking histories, vital signs, physical examination, anthropometrics, assist in conducting deliveries and management of patients. Coordinate referral of pregnant women, enrolment and follow-ups.  
     
    Essential Requirements: 

    • Diploma in nursing from a recognized institution. 
    • Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya and in possession of a valid practicing License 
    • Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal and organization skills 
    • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Swahili
    • Experience with collection of high dimensional longitudinal data
