    Chief Enterprise Business Officer

    Description

    Brief Posting Description                     

    Working closely with the Chief Executive officer (CEO), the role holder will be responsible for providing the Strategic direction for the Enterprise Business Unit (EBU). This includes the envisioning and stewarding EBU’s growth, to lead the Enterprise Commercial strategic objectives of Safaricom & devising strategies to meet operational targets and drive implementation across various channels.

    Role Responsibilities               

    • Position Safaricom with key external stakeholders to create a receptive market for growth.
    • Provide strategic leadership direction in the establishment of a robust and effective channel partner model and sales operations in alignment to compliance with AML/KYC laws and regulations
    • Development of the Enterprise innovative vision, strategy, and leadership in all areas of Enterprise Business Product Segments and Solutions. To support digitization
    • Lead in the identification, analysis and possible development of new market and product opportunities; maintain an active awareness of competitor activity.
    • Drive the Business modelling from opportunity mapping, product development to execution
    • Oversee the building, driving and delivery of an integrated Wholesale strategy aligned to Safaricom’s mission and vision
    • Align and integrate with common platforms across the Company to exchange knowledge and gain economies of scale.
    • Leverage On-Going Customer Insights -with support from marketing teams, interpret and use implications of consumer, marketplace, and environmental information to improve business decisions and knowledge base for future strategic planning.
    • Maintain and grow market share, achieving unrivalled levels of customer satisfaction that will result in demonstrable subscriber retention and growth

    Qualifications

    • Educational qualifications from a recognized university in Business, Commerce, Finance, Marketing or related field
    • At least 10 years of experience in a closely related role with 5 of these being at senior management capacity
    • Extensive experience influencing and leading a multifaceted senior team and influencing change
    • Deep exposure with Profit & Loss (P&L) management
    • Full value chain management
    • Experience in Productivity/Performance Improvement Management is expected
    • Expert understanding of commercial and technology functions and business drivers

    IT Infrastructure and Enterprise Applications Lead

    Description

    We are pleased to announce the following Position in the Digital IT Department within the Technology Division.   In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Director – Information Technology, the position holder will provide IT Planning and Operations leadership in Technology, which covers core Infrastructure, integration, data management, cloud services and service center. The role ensures that systems, services, and infrastructure work reliably and securely. The role holder will work with the senior executive team as well as business and corporate leaders to address the organization’s critical focus on enhancing the customer experience, operational discipline and company-wide areas of scalability and efficiency, performance improvement and service enhancement.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Leads and counsels the Technical and Tribe Leads, Tech Leads, Chapter Leads and other Technical Experts on Capacity Planning, Platform Investments, Business Continuity and Service Availability.
    • Responsible for determining current and future IT infrastructure, storage and enterprise application needs, overseeing design and implementation of roadmaps to attain desired target state.
    • Enable, guide and support applications modernization especially through migration to the cloud and on-premise cloud evolution in order to deliver reliable and secure platforms.
    • Creating functional strategies and specific objectives for sub-functions and develops budgets and frameworks to support the shared services.
    • Development of a strong cadence with business stakeholders to consistently evaluate the performance against targets, service levels and make appropriate adjustments to meet the requirements of the business
    • This role leads the alignment of the service delivery strategy with the business strategy.
    • Responsible for defining and delivering IT Infrastructure, Enterprise Integration, and Enterprise Applications Strategy.
    • Provide critical input and Deliver the Big Data strategy through building and maintaining the Technical Infrastructure and systems.
    • Responsible for defining and delivering the Safaricom Cloud Strategy.
    • Oversight of the Enterprise integration domain, including strategic objective to migrate from monolithic to microservices architecture.
    • Accountable for proper planning and management of over 7000 IT Assets including Servers, Storage, and Backup devices.
    • Provide thought leadership on foundational data and technology best practices, compliance requirements and technology evolution.
    • Develop and lead a high functioning team with a focus on operational discipline and enhancing the customer experience.
    • Ensures all projects including financial metrics and key deliverables and a consistent communication plan for impacted teams and management
    • Lead the effort to build out and enhance new work streams geared toward operational efficiency and automation of Digital IT deliverables used during the business lifecycle.

    Qualification

    • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in software engineering, or any other related field
    • 15 or more years of experience in at least three disciplines, such as data engineering and management, application development, middleware, information analysis, database management, core infrastructure or operations in a multitier environment
    • 10 or more years of business experience in strategic and operations planning and/or business analysis
    • 7 years of experience in IT strategic planning, organization design and development
    • Experience in leading large organization teams in an agile context, operating and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts
    • Professional experience and knowledge of Digital, Financial Services and Telecommunications industries strongly preferred.

    Senior Manager; Competition

    Description

    We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Regulatory & Public Policy department of the Corporate Affairs division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

    Brief Posting Description                     

    Reporting to the Head of Department – Regulatory & Public Policy, the Senior Manager provides day-to-day advisory and support services in relation to competition to help shape the business’s long-term strategy and commercial policies.  The Senior Manager also ensures full compliance of the business with competition legislation and comes up with forward-looking solutions to help Safaricom navigate an increasingly competitive landscape.

    Job Responsibilities                

    • Providing timely, clear, accurate and practical advice to Business Units on competition issues;
    • Proactively monitoring and reviewing legislation/regulations relating to competition and advising the business on the impact of such legislation and any compliance required thereunder;
    • Participating in implementation of regulatory interventions introduced by regulators affecting competition;
    • Developing and enhancing an effective competition compliance programme within the business;
    • Embedding the competition compliance programme throughout the business by partnering with a wide range of cross-functional teams to coordinate and implement the compliance program and initiatives;
    • Conducting training sessions and preparing policies, checklists and guidelines relating to competition;
    • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of competition risk management processes and conducting internal compliance investigations, risk assessments and ensuring that any remedial actions are implemented;
    • Managing investigations and inquiries by regulators and developing Safaricom’s legal position and strategy on competition matters;
    • Representing Safaricom’s position at any regulator convened hearing/decision making forum when required including the preparation of briefs and submissions;
    • Consistent engagement with key internal and external stakeholders on competition matters as shall be necessary; and
    • Developing best practice as well as benchmarking with external markets in competition management.

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Economics, Business, Commerce or related business-related discipline form a recognized University. An MBA is an added advantage.
    • 5+ years’ work experience in the Telecommunications or affiliated industry in a similar role
    • Strong exposure through either regulatory or direct competition authority or oversight.
    • Demonstrable awareness of local and global market activity with knowledge of trends and patterns in competition policy.
    • Deep understanding of the Safaricom’s business, it’s market and industry alongside key decision-makers and influencers in account organisation
    • Good grasp of competition regulations in Kenya and globally
    • Proven ability to influence at senior levels, particularly in dealing with internal and external senior executives on a range of issues
    • Strong team player and excellent report writing, interpersonal skills and presentation skills

    Systems Administrator

    Description

    We are pleased to announce the following Position in the Digital IT Department within the Technology Division.   In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

    Brief Description.

    Reporting to the Manager – Cloud and Infrastructure Support, the position holder will be responsible for System support, monitoring and administration of Safaricom’s Digital IT Private and Cloud Infrastructure based on windows and Unix/Linux environments running varying servers, storage and SAN systems, Support of Virtualization environment and Container platforms. This includes general system administration tasks, software and hardware support, system configuration, backups, system monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting, skills transfer and customer management.  Configuration management and documentation.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Administering, configuring and troubleshooting private or cloud-based servers running on Microsoft Windows and Unix/Linux in physical, virtualized or containerized environment. Response, problem resolution and escalation of server issues.
    • Support automation of infrastructure at massive scale to support scaling of digital services and as well as adoption of new technologies within Infrastructure and cloud support team.
    • Support cloud Migratio initiatives and new technologies adoption.
    • Analysis of server hardware and operating system software, Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory. Role includes implementation of tactical service improvements, upgrades and system patching.
    • Liaise with users, hardware and software vendors and internal systems owners to fine tune systems hardware and software for all systems.
    • Operations of backup tools and testing of disk and data recovery solutions on all business systems. Prompt restoration of lost data for the business. Backup, hardware and software assurance.
    • Technical support for assigned company initiatives and projects. Participation in feasibility studies and testing for new IT infrastructure components.
    • Technical support to IT Container Platforms based on Kubernetes and Redhat OpenShift.
    • Maintenance of systems documentation and procedures.

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
    • 4 years’ experience as Systems administrator/analyst in a multifaceted business environment with integrated/mixed of windows/UNIX/Linux operating environment, servers and storage systems.  
    • System Administration Techniques – understanding OS Performance, Microsoft and Unix/Linux enterprise systems.
    • Certification on Windows, Unix/Linux, Virtualization.
    • Certification in AWS/Azure or Other Cloud platform.
    • Knowledge and certification in SAN/NAS, Container Management, Provisioning/Configuration automation.
    • Good Knowledge and experience of Container Platforms i.e. Kubernetes and RedHat Openshift.
    • Good Knowledge of Agile Ways of working.
    • Strong Oral, Written, Interpersonal Communication and Leadership skills.
    • Basic Knowledge of DevSecOps and Microservices Technologies.
