    Head Of Product Management

    Key responsibilities

    • Lead the digital transformation of Nation Media from a product perspective.
    • Work with the newly-created Venture arm of Nation Media to create new digital products.
    • Lead the product management team day to day to success.
    • Grow the product management team in ambition, size and sophistication.
    • Create a grown-up product culture across the organisation.
    • Own roadmaps, schedules and timelines for products.

    Attributes & Skills

    • At least 8 years of product management experience.
    • A track record of achievement in building and implementing product strategy at a company-level.
    • Strong track record of having built, managed, and developed teams of product professionals.
    • Proven ability to manage and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
    • A track record of having exemplified courage and reach for the unknown.
    • Experience in media is a plus but not a must-have.
    • Location: Nairobi (not remote).

    Chief Commercial Officer

    Job purpose

    The Chief Commercial Officer reports to the Group CEO and is responsible for meeting customer needs, and accelerating growth including delivery of ambitious revenue targets. The CCO oversees all commercial teams, including sales, marketing, production, customer care and circulation. The role drives the overall commercial strategy. At its core is our transformation to digital products, digital content, digital brands and digital-native customers, while sustaining existing revenue streams.

    Key responsibilities

    • Act as the customer champion at all levels of the company;
    • Create and execute commercial strategies aimed at accelerating growth;
    • Drive customer acquisition through marketing, including development of offers and campaigns to drive traffic and conversions;
    • Increase retention by reducing churn rates to “best in class” levels;
    • Deploy modern techniques to scope the market and lead change with a focus on the constantly evolving customer;
    • Define business plans using data to meet current and future needs of content and advertising customers;
    • Undertake research on the data and generate value from insights derived;
    • Strong team work particularly with Chief Technology and Innovation Officer (CTIO) and Group Editorial Director (GED);
    • Grow current and additional market in order to achieve growth in market share and sales revenue at a minimum cost;
    • Business Development - Focus on creating partnerships that increase traffic and sales;
    • Market Development – Work collaboratively with the Chief Technology & Innovation Officer, to create long-term (1+ year) opportunities through new markets & products.
    • Keep abreast of competitor developments;
    • Customer Engagement and support - Responsible for maintaining knowledge of digital platforms, policies, and known issues and solutions, assist customers with problems and questions, track customer interactions to report on trends and satisfaction levels;
    • Oversee and ensure the quality, efficiency and on-time delivery of all products that reach customers, both digitally and offline;
    • Develop advertising and content sales (including circulation) strategies;
    • Deliver the annual revenue budgets.

    Attributes & Skills

    • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (additional qualification will be an added advantage)
    • Have minimum 10 years of experience managing commercial, sales and marketing teams
    • Demonstrate commercial acumen, business knowledge, understanding of a variety of commercial practices, and familiarity with contemporary tech-led organizations
    • Lead with strategic thinking and a growth mindset
    • Show digital knowhow including customer data platforms and data management platforms
    • Demonstrate an ability to build and lead a dynamic culture of innovation and learning
    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills to persuasively sell ideas
    • Interpret research data for threats and opportunities
    • Grow people and talent and achieve results through others
    • Embrace a dynamic, challenging and target-driven environment
    • Exemplify courage to try out new methods and reach for the unknown
    • Embody trust, integrity, sound judgement and a collaborative nature
    • Experience in news media is a plus but not a must-have.

    Transformation Leader

    Job purpose

    We are looking for an intellectual and practical leader of our transformation agenda. You will steer the overall design and direction of change as well as manage the team implementing the plans and participate in specific work streams. You will go high and low. It will never be boring.

    You will assemble and manage a team of change agents, both internal and external, to execute what will hopefully result in the most agile company operating in East Africa, transforming our ways of working to reach a global standard.

    Taking a media company founded prior to Kenya’s independence and turning into a modern best-in-class technology company is no easy task. It requires passion, vision and a strong sense of what will make an organization successful. Key relationships are with the CEO and the CTIO, who dreamt up the change programme. Access to board members is also available. This has support at the highest level.

    The transformation leader may stay with us for the duration of the change programme or could potentially engage us in a conversation as to future roles at Nation they might be interested in here once the change programme is finished. We are flexible as to the long-term.

    Key responsibilities

    • Architect the change programme with the CEO, CTIO and board members
    • Co-create a new culture and ways of working across the organization
    • Act as a change evangelist to build awareness and understanding
    • Own transformation roadmaps, schedules and timelines

    Attributes & Skills

    • A track record of achievement in change management including strategy development and implementation.
    • Proven ability to engage, influence and manage a wide range of stakeholders.
    • Interest to roll up your sleeves and work in a dynamic, fast-changing environment.
    • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience.
    • Experience in management consulting would be an advantage.
    • Experience in news media is a plus but not a requirement.
