    Nurse - Mombasa

    Job Summary:

    The nurse will assist in the daily running of the clinic to ensure patients get quality and timely care in line with AHF and Kenya government standards. S/he will act as a team leader within the scope of the practice guidelines as dictated by practice of Nursing. This position will be based in Mombasa.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Assist and work together in support of all the CCC activities with the clinical team.
    2. Integration of healthcare services to CCC target areas-CWC, family planning and other clinics.
    3. Support of the community component of program including outreaches and mobilizations for care and
    4. support.
    5. Organize follow up of clients who have defaulted treatment and care.
    6. Lead and support educational sessions at the CCC.
    7. Support the formation and management patient support groups at the CCC.
    8. Triage clients at clinic.
    9. Provide skilled nursing procedures
    10. Attend and participate in team conferences as requested.
    11. May act as a team leader to assist with the provision and supervision of patient care.
    12. Charts notes and medication administration according to protocol.
    13. Exercises appropriate judgment and decision-making skills.
    14. Ensures the maintenance of patient confidentiality.
    15. Administers medication as ordered within the scope of practice of the licensee.
    16. Performs phlebotomy and/or initiates intravenous infusions as ordered
    17. May supervise care given by other cadres including, Medical Assistants, ART Aides and Phlebotomists.
    18. Provides patient and family education.

    Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

    1. Diploma in Nursing from a recognized medical training college.
    2. Registration by the Nursing Council of Kenya with a valid current license
    3. Minimum of at least 3 years’ experience providing clinical care
    4. Prior experience treating HIV positive patients and familiarity with current HIV&AIDS, TB management practices and protocols
    5. Experience in leading a team and building capacity in resource-limited settings will be an added advantage.

    Laboratory Technologist

    Job Summary:

    A Laboratory Technologist contributes to AHF's mission by providing laboratory oversight and adherence to standard laboratory protocols and procedures in all program sites. They are involved in training, support supervision, mentorship, and team building exercises for laboratory staff. They ensure that high quality HTS laboratory services are maintained at all project sites in accordance with set guidelines and protocols.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Participates in planning and overseeing support supervision activities for the laboratory function for all sites
    • Provides basic laboratory services for CD4 tests, hemogram, viral loads, biochemistry, and other tests as required
    • Oversees laboratory services provision and ensures standard, and current practices are in place for maintaining high quality laboratory services and maximizing the use of all resources.
    • Ensures compliance and implementation of laboratory protocols
    • Coordinates with other laboratory and sites to ensure that the process of handling patient samples and delivery of results is efficient and effective;
    • Conducts quality control checks and maintenance for the Laboratory machines
    • Participates in the development and replication of the laboratory protocols and practices
    • Performs laboratory tests in accordance to the standard and current practices that are in place to maintain high quality of services, and maximizing the use of all resources;
    • Participates in training, mentorship and team building exercises
    • Participates in inventory control management for laboratory supplies and reagents;
    • Ensures the compilation of monthly laboratory inventory
    • Exercises appropriate judgment and decision-making skills.
    • Ensures the maintenance of patient confidentiality
    • Serves as AHFs advocate at the site level
    • Carry out other duties as may be assigned from time to time

    Minimum Requirements:

    1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution of higher learning
    2. Minimum of (3) three years of experience in a similar position, preferably in CCC or HIV/AIDS/TB programs
    3. Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians & Technologists Board and hold a valid annual practicing license.

    Driver

    Job Summary:

    The driver will form part of the logistics and transport services within the regional office.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Driving duties

    1. Drive staff to and from their destinations on time and ensure safety of the passenger and the vehicle at all times
    2. Liaise with the Operations Manager for assignment and coordination of driving duties for each day
    3. Monitor fuel usage regularly to ensure the vehicle always has sufficient fuel to fully support activities as required
    4. Mail delivery
    5. Liaise with the Operations Manager to deliver mails to required destinations.
    6. Ensure that mail delivery is completed with signature of the recipient on the designated mail delivery books
    7. Documentation
    8. Complete the daily travel log book and ensure that all information required is properly recorded and legible.
    9. Vehicle Maintenance
    10. Liaise with the operations Officer to ensure that vehicle routine maintenance service is carried out promptly and the vehicle is kept clean and
    11. presentable
    12. Ensure that all legal requirements for the vehicle are up to date
    13. Record all vehicle repairs done (no matter how small) in the log book
    14. Ensure the vehicle is kept clean at all time,
    15. Ensure that the vehicle is securely parked while on and off duty
    16. Occasional duties
    17. Assist with set up for workshops and loading and offloading during activities
    18. Carry out other duties as may be assigned from time to time

    Skills:

    1. Good command of English & Kiswahili
    2. Security and safety minded
    3. Good knowledge of geographical area of job location and Kenya at large.
    4. Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
    5. Five years driving experience with a reputable organization
    6. Possess a clean and valid driving license, preferably class ABCE
    7. Possess a valid certificate of good conduct
    8. Have defensive driving certificate and a certificate of competence from Automobile Association of Kenya (AA).

    Other requirements:

    1. This job requires a physically fit person with ability to see clearly within 35 meters.
    2. Ability to work long hours while sitting with some moderate noise and vibration level essential to deliver key functions.
    3. Needs to be sensitive to patient population and issues surrounding HIV/AIDS
    4. A pro-active approach and flexible attitude to work.
    5. Flexible, self-motivating and ability to organize work independently
    6. Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment
    7. Excellent communication and negotiation skills
    8. Proficiency in use of information technology such email, and preparing simple reports in word
