    The HCD Exchange is a community of implementers, funders, designers, and evaluators committed to advancing learning and practice related to the integration of human-centered design (HCD) and adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) in low-resource settings. The HCD Exchange was launched in 2018 and is entering its next phase. Over the next two years we are excited to expand the community of partners and actors who are reaching and engaging youth effectively through HCD to improve ASRH programs and outcomes.     JSI and inSupply Health are recruiting for a Youth Communications Consultant. The Consultant will work closely with the Learning and KM Lead and the Youth Communications Officer to develop an effective communications strategy that ensures robust youth engagement and amplifies the visibility of HCD in ASRH work, using an array of compelling communication channels and tactics.

    This position will be a part-time consultancy for approximately 40% in the first year of the project and 15% in the second year.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Work with Learning and KM Lead and Youth Communications Officer to define HCD Exchange’s overall communication goals specific to youth that will support project outcomes.
    • Advise and collaborate with the Youth Communications Officer to develop an effective communications strategy that will increase youth engagement and amplify the visibility of HCD and ASRH work in East and West (francophone) Africa and India, including crafting and refining key messaging and identifying innovative and appropriate tactics.
    • Define appropriate metrics to track the progress of the strategy.
    • Provide ongoing technical assistance to help implement and refine the strategy as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 7+ years of experience in communications, ASRH or youth-related efforts preferred
    • Experience creating, implementing, and managing a communications strategy, including its evaluation, preferably in a health-related area
    • Passionate about empowering youth and advocating for positive change
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and knowledgeable in Adobe Creative Suite programs
    • Experience in multimedia communication, including print, video, web, and audio a plus

    JSI and inSupply Health are recruiting an HCD consultant to support our team in Nairobi, Kenya.

    About You
    You are an HCD practitioner with experience in global health, preferably reproductive health, and potentially youth programming. You are excited about integrating HCD into global health practice and have experience working with both public health implementers and designers/design firms generating insights and co-creating solutions in the health space. You excel at communicating and connecting people to work toward a common purpose and learning goal.

    About this Role
    In this role you will be instrumental in supporting the HCD Exchange Community of Practice (CoP) to define gaps and needs related to capacity and experience in HCD/ASRH practice, creating opportunities for collaboration and learning, and supporting CoP working groups to develop and test practical tools and guidance related to advancing the integration of HCD into ASRH. You will work with the HCD Exchange Advisor to conduct design research and guide the HCD Exchange team and CoP in defining and executing the agenda for HCD Exchange over the next two years. You will also help co-create a Youth Leadership Hub that will guide the work of the HCD Exchange with respect to youth involvement. You will also serve as a focal point for promoting high standards in HCD practice.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Support and promote the use of HCD in ASRH programs across the HCD Exchange Community of Practice, including managing or providing HCD technical assistance and learning and exchange opportunities for CoP members and funders
    • Ensure the human-centered perspective is maintained as central throughout the work of the HCD Exchange
    • Design or enable capacity building in HCD approaches (design research, iterative prototyping, user testing, and learning-through-making) for CoP members.
    • Raise awareness of HCD methods and tools and their relevance to ASRH practice.
    • Provide direction, manage deliverables, and ensure high quality standards are met related to the development of tools and public goods related to HCD/ASRH integration.
    • Cultivate collaboration across CoP members and attract new members to the CoP through networking, communication and outreach
    • Contribute to HCD Exchange team and CoP collaborative activities for a range of purposes including facilitation of multidisciplinary co-creation workshops.
    • Develop and nurture links between the HCD Exchange and the HCD practitioner community in East Africa and globally.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s degree required in fields of design, innovation, behavioral science, anthropology or sociology; or Bachelor's degree with relevant experience
    • At least five years of work experience in international development and/or global public health, innovation, or a design-related field related field, with at least four years of work experience applying and leading HCD methodologies.
    • High level of creativity, adaptability, and expertise in delivering technical assistance or consulting services to local and international organizations.
    • Knowledge of emerging HCD research approaches, tools, and ways to present findings.
    • Proficient in research methodology, study design, and analysis/reporting.
    • Previous experience in developing and implementing HCD-related training or learning activities.
    • Organized, proactive, self-directed, efficient, and able to manage multiple and complex activities in a timely manner.
    • Strong interpersonal and social skills including excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills and experience working across diverse cultures.
    • Previous experience working with major international development organizations and technical partners.
    • French not required but preferred.
    • Ability and willingness to travel.

    JSI and inSupply are recruiting an experienced Knowledge Management (KM) and communication professional to join our team as the Learning and Knowledge Management Lead. The Learning and KM Lead will work closely with the HCD Exchange Director to build and operationalize the communication and KM vision, strategy, and processes, and will be responsible for managing all areas of the Exchange’s communication and KM efforts.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead, develop, and implement targeted communication and KM strategies that promote the objectives of the HCD Exchange, facilitating better learning and sharing through the community of practice (CoP) network and with the wider health and design community.
    • Identify appropriate communication goals for the Exchange and build an appropriate communications, outreach, and engagement strategy to achieve them. Create and manage a work plan to operationalize the strategy’s implementation.
    • Develop appropriate key messaging that resonates with target audiences, including ASRH practitioners, youth, policymakers, and the international public health community.
    • Manage the overall implementation of the strategies, monitor progress, and report to donors and Exchange staff.
    • Identify and facilitate appropriate technical exchanges and learning opportunities
    • Manage the HCD/ASRH Resource Directory
    • Coordinate the learning agenda for the Exchange
    • Collaborate with Exchange staff and other ASRH stakeholders to develop tools, information products, and other learning materials
    • Develop dissemination lists to keep all target audiences and key stakeholders informed of the Exchange’s activities
    Professional daily operation of the HCD Exchange
    • Serve as the primary point of contact and responsible for the day-to-day management of the CoP, including handling inquiries, vendor relations, KM/comms activities, and analytics tracking.
    • Oversee the listserv and membership relationships, including moderated discussions, member inquiries, etc.
    • Manage communication and workflow between DC and Kenya
    • With the HCD Exchange Director, ensure the development and implementation of work plans against all donor requirements
    • Collaborate with existing and cultivate relationships with new stakeholders (members, funders, operations team, potential funders, advisory board members)

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • BA in Information Management, Communications, or Education Technology. Masters preferred
    • 7+ years of experience in knowledge management, communications, and learning
    • Experience managing online/virtual communities and learning exchanges and networks
    • Experience with various learning methodologies that can be applied to the Exchange
    • Strategic thinker who is detailed oriented
    • Strong collaborator and team player
    • Excellent verbal and written communication in English
    • Experience with global health and ASRH programming a plus
    • Experience providing assistance in designing and implementing KM approaches appropriate to low-resource country contexts; conducting workshops and trainings; overseeing website development, content management and supporting the IT needs of a project; and implementing the use of new and emerging technologies
    • Deep experience and versatility with digital tools and platforms for knowledge management, interactive community engagement, and content management (Wikis, Moodle, WordPress, Google Classroom, etc.)
    • Knowledge of HCD principles and methodology preferred

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Leadership & vision
    • Build a small team to lead and facilitate the HCD Exchange
    • Lead the HCD Exchange Community of Practice, including the Advisory Board and develop the Investors Segment
    • Demonstrate visionary and catalytic leadership and purposeful management skills, ensuring high quality and timely outputs and building and sustaining momentum for the HCD Exchange
    • Listen to and engage with key stakeholders and leaders in development and global health to build up the ecosystem and inspire commitment to investing in and practicing HCD-led ASRH programming
    • Manage the complexity of community-driven investments and respond to emergent community, technical, and funding priorities.
    • Make connections to other donors and organizations that might be interested in supporting HCD approaches to improve ASRH outcomes

    Youth service, voice & action
    • Create the vision for, support, and advance the HCD Exchange Youth Leadership Hub
    • Lead the ASRH technical and youth engagement and program elements of the Exchange with support from the HCD Exchange team members and technical advisors

    Community building within the HCD Exchange
    • With support from HCD Exchange collaborators, form and execute a responsive, effective, user-centered Community of Practice that values the contributions and assets of all members
    • Create networks of people and organizations for cross-community learning and opportunities for collaboration

    Capacity building
    • Frame, prioritize, and meet capacity needs with HCD Exchange members and the HCD/ASRH community
    • Inspire HCD/ASRH online and in-person technical and learning tools and field-based learning tours
    Generating and sharing evidence
    • Create a space within the HCD Exchange to identify evaluation needs, match evaluation opportunities with the right evaluators and experts and share evaluation results
    • Share learnings with the global health community about whether and how HCD approaches are improving ASRH programming and outcomes

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 10+ years of experience in sexual and reproductive health and family planning programming, with at least 8 years in adolescent SRH program design or policy
    • Interested in hiring a local citizen from sub-Saharan Africa; East African strongly preferred
    • Commitment to youth involvement and experience with youth programming, and empowering youth voices and actions in the global south
    • Demonstrated experience managing projects with local and regional staff and activities; strong expertise in operationalization and transforming complex ideas into practice
    • Demonstrated experience working closely with international donors in global health, preferably in partnerships or collaborative initiatives
    • Strong global connections with the ASRH community, and in East Africa in particular. Ability to generate excitement for collaboration and engagement within the ASRH community
    • Strong management facilitation, performance management, communication, and people skills including experience in negotiation, influence and advocacy
    • Excellent written and spoken English language. French language proficiency a bonus
    • Knowledge of/experience applying HCD principles and methods and/or experience with social and behavior change approaches
    • Success with fundraising and building coalitions of funders, governments and supporters
    • Experience with communities of practice highly desirable
    • Ability to travel at least 30-40% regionally and internationally
