    Theatre in Charge

    Job Purpose

    To ensure a safe, efficient and effective perioperative service is provided to patients and Consultant users. To provide leadership and direction to the operating theatre team. The role includes clinical practice, human resource management, including staffing and performance management, and financial management.

    Main duties and responsibilities: –

    •  Ensure appropriate staffing and skill mix depending on anticipated and actual workload.
    •  Provide clinical leadership to all theatre staff.
    •  Develop implement and update policies and protocols for patient management in the perioperative setting.
    •  Responsible for cleanliness of theatre environment and equipment.
    •  Responsible for adequate stock management in theatre.
    •  Participate of clinical audit of the unit.
    •  Liaising with admissions officer in booking of theatre cases.
    •  Supervise and advocate for the maintenance and repair of the theatre equipment.
    •  Initiate and participate in quality improvement activities and trainings to staffs on procedure, processes and equipment usage and care.

    Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

    •  Higher diploma in perioperative nursing from a recognized institution
    •  Bachelor of Science in Nursing / Diploma in nursing
    •  4 years’ experience in perioperative setting
    •  Certification in BLS, ACLS and ATLS will be an added advantage

    Required Skills

    Nephrology Nurse

    Job Purpose

    The Registered Nurse working in the Renal Unit is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating patient care of patient of all ages pediatric to geriatric. The Renal Nurse coordinates, delegates, and provides direct nursing care for patients by working cooperatively with patients, family members, and all patient care team members. The Renal Nurse provides supervision for patient team members in accordance with their level of training and the patient’s acuity.

    Main duties and responsibilities: –

    • Ensures the preparation of the delivery system, dialysate bath, and dialyzer and confirms that all mandatory alarm tests on the dialyzer and equipment are performed.
    •  Reviews physician orders for dialysis patients, collects pre-treatment dialysis data, and reviews patient records prior to dialysis.
    •  Conducts pre-dialysis patient assessment including obtaining patient vital signs and assessing the patient’s vascular access, laboratory findings, and the patient’s general health.
    •  Documents findings of patient assessments and interventions and advises providers of any significant change in the patient’s condition and other pertinent information.
    •  Monitors patient reaction to treatment and performance of the dialysis machines, and demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the mechanics of dialysis
    •  Assesses, prepares, and cannulates a patient’s vascular access (including needle insertion in arteriovenous fistula or grafts for aseptic connection with dialysis equipment).
    •  Utilizes sterile techniques to assess the dialysis catheter exit site and to apply dressing on the patient’s vascular access (dialysis catheter, arteriovenous access) per protocols.
    •  Maintains skills necessary to perform surveillance on dialysis access (catheter, fistula, graft) for early signs of failure or infection.
    •  Reviews patient’s records for orders as appropriate and administers dialysis related intra-venous and/or oral medications as prescribed.
    •  Conducts post dialysis assessment and patient discharge by evaluating treatment, documenting medication administration utilizing the appropriate protocols, assessing condition of vascular access

    Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

    •  Higher diploma in Nephrology nursing
    •  Valid Practice license
    •  BLS/ACLS Certification
    •  4 years working experience

    Medical Officer

    Job Purpose

    Attending to patients in the Outpatient and Inpatient departments in line with Standard Treatment Guideline

    Main duties and responsibilities: –

    INPATIENT

    •  Reviewing patients in the in-patient department in conjunction with the admitting consultant.
    •  Attending to direct admissions.
    •  Attending to any emergencies in the In-patient department.
    •  Conducting daily mini ward rounds and accompanying consultants during their rounds.
    •  Performing minor procedures like intravenous cannulation, NG tube fixation among others.
    •  Writing medical reports and discharge summaries.
    •  Participation in trainings including weekly CMEs
    •  Maintaining medical records through proper documentation of patients’ medical histories
    •  Counseling patients and relatives on diagnosis and bereavement
    •  Report any issues that may have arisen during the shift to the Medical Officer In- Charge.

    OUTPATIENT

    •  Attending to patients in the Out Patient department as per Standard Treatment Guidelines.
    •  Attending to any emergencies in the A&E
    •  Participation in trainings including weekly CMEs
    •  Maintaining medical records through proper documentation of patient’s medical history and procedures done
    •  Counseling patients and relatives on diagnosis and bereavement
    •  Reporting any issues that may have arisen during the shift to the Medical Officer In- Charge in real-time
    •  Ensuring all qualifications are up-to date including ACLS & BLS certifications, medical license and Annual retention certificate

    Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

    • BLS AND ACLS certificates is a MUST.
    • ATLS is an added advantage.
    • Registration with The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
    • Retention Certificate from The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
    • 1-year post internship experience in a busy hospital.

    Required Skills

    •  Knowledgeable in basic anatomy, physiology, pharmacology
    •  Computer literate
    •  Familiar with locally available drugs and their indications
    •  Good interpersonal skills
    •  A team player
    •  Excellent customer service skills
    • Culturally sensitive
