    Safeguarding Communications & Engagement Lead

    The objectives of this Role

    The Communications & EngagementLeadwill use her/his communication and/or behaviour change expertise to develop and execute a communication and engagement strategy for safeguarding globally. This includes identifying the various audiences (both internal and external – from children and their families and communities to staff, volunteers, partners and our donors), messages, touch points and channels. This includes developing awareness materials in plain language, inclusive and accessible formats that can be adapted to different contexts and audiences. The goal is to transition from a static awareness raising approach based primarily on one-off training/induction and decentralised awareness materials to an integrated, targeted and dynamic communication approach that drives behaviour change and lays the foundation of a safeguarding culture. The role will have close interaction with the centre and regional safeguarding specialists, and in particular the safeguarding behavioural change specialist, and Save the Children members worldwide and will be the business partner of SCI departments that have a strong communication component.

    The role can be based anywhere in the world as long as it is in a country where Save the Children operates, and can be home based.

    In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    Essential

    • Commitment to SCI values and child rights
    • Knowledge and competencies in applying social behaviour communication and change techniques and methodology.
    • Experience in external and internal, commercial or corporate communications
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and track record in developing comms and capacity building materials
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to deal tactfully and sensitively with a wide range of people in a large organisation, very often at a distance, with plain, inclusive and non-discriminatory language.
    • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and diplomacy skills and ability to bring people from different cultures onboard

    Safeguarding Behavioral Science Specialist

    The objectives of this role 

    Safeguarding Behavioral Science Specialist is to use behavioral science to identify behaviors that either cause harm or fail to prevent harm, and to design and test intevntions to change these behaviors. Target behaviors could be physical punishment by teachers, failure to do effective risk assessments by staff, or non-reporting of policy breaches.

    The role is initially for 1 year to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach, with an outlook of permanent employment after the 1st year. The role can be based anywhere in the world as long as it is in a country where save the children operates, and can be home based.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • Demonstrated experience and expertise designing, implementing, and analyzing randomized field experiments in developing countries.
    • Strong qualitative analysis or mixed methods for social research skills, including demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with data analysis software such as NVivo, ATLAS.ti
    • Strong proficiency in quantitative analysis and software such as STATA, R or similar.
    • Flexible, self-motivated, able to manage multiple tasks, team members, and projects efficiently.
    • Ability to succeed, detailed oriented, drive projects, and collaborate via a remote working structure.
    • Excellent management, organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills.
    • Fluency and excellent communication and writing skills with a mastery of English. Knowledge of an additional language such as Spanish, French or Arabic is preferred but not required.
    • Role requires affinity with child protection or child safeguarding, but no previous experience in these fields.

    Risk Data & Insights Analyst

    Are core part of the risk management strategy is to develop insights through data analytics, for which SCI is recruiting a new posts of Risk Data & Insights Analyst. The analyst will be instrumental in delivering a unified Business Intelligence (“BI”) approach to makes the wealth of data comparable, accessible and actionable for the business. The analyst will work closely together with the Chief Risk Officer, the Incident Management Teams (Counter-Fraud, Safeguarding, etc.), and Insurance.

    You will play a pivotal role in developing global policy, identifying risks and driving leadership decisions across the organisation.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • Proven experience in data analysis, business intelligence, data quality, data cleaning

    Wash Officer - 2 Positions

    ROLE PURPOSE 

    The post holder(s) will be responsible for the design, implementation, follow up and evaluation of WASH infrastructure construction and rehabilitation in communities targeted by Save the Children in the region of Turkana and Wajir - KENYA Country Office. The post is specifically oriented towards the WASH emergency response in the context of the crisis HoA Drought Response, and special attention will be made ​​on the integration of the WASH sector in other core sector of Save the Children such as nutrition, food security, health, education and child protection. 

    KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY 

    Need Assessment  

    • Be responsible for technical part of WASH needs assessments and participate in the selection of target communities and WASH facilities to be rehabilitated and / or build in the project, through technical feasibility studies, household level questionnaires, focal group discussions, visits to facilities and sites, and interview with key members of the community. 

    Program design and implementation 

    • Be responsible/ support for the design, establishment of work specifications and quotation, follow-up and evaluation of activities related to the construction of WASH infrastructures in public institutions and communities, such as: 
    • Construction or rehabilitation of sanitation facilities (latrines, incinerator, refuse pit, sokage pit.
    • Construction or rehabilitation of drinking water infrastructures (hand dug well wells, boreholes, pipe network, reservoir, drinking water treatment device).  
    • Technical training of community volunteers, members of WASH committees, governmental staff  
    • Planning, organization and follow up of the community mobilization in target communities on issues related to of construction, operation and maintenance of WASH facilities. 
    • Be responsible to establish the technical aspect of the internal purchase order and tender documents for construction and rehabilitation of WASH facilities. 
    • Be responsible for the quality control of materials WASH bought by Save the Children and its subcontractors. 
    • Site management: general supervision of contractors and save the children staff under his management, ensuring the safety of construction sites and community participation. 
    • Validate the progress and quality of work of the contractors, and make the connection with the administration and logistics to ensure their payments. 
    • Design, implementation and organization of training for construction of small WASH facilities at household level (hand washing device, sand filter.
    • Follow up logistics / budget management / site supervision in case of direct intervention of Save the Children for small scale works (rehabilitation of water points or latrines etc.
    • Follow-up of activities of local partners of Save the Children (such as local NGOs or governmental agencies) in the field of WASH facilities construction, and participate in their capacity building. 

    Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning 

    • Verify that WASH infrastructure construction and rehabilitation works done by partners and contractor are carried out according to quality standards established by Save the Children through quality checklists  
    • Plan and be responsible for the weekly reporting of data in order to follow up the standard project and strategic indicators (number of beneficiaries, number and type of activities completed.

    Reporting 

    • Writing weekly report to line manager, and verbal reports whenever necessary. 

    Integration, coordination and transversal aspects 

    • Ensure that construction works is integrated with hygiene promotion and community participation component, to ensure sustainability of the infrastructure built.  
    • Coordinate WASH construction activities with other sectors of Save the Children, in order to integrate activities in the same geographical area and for the same beneficiaries. 
    • Coordinate WASH construction activities with other local actors (governmental and non-governmental). 
    • Ensure the integration of gender, child protection, HIV, environment and other crosscutting issues to the design, implementation and development of WASH construction activities, and ensure that activities take into account the needs of specific groups and individuals, especially children, the elderly and disabled. 

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

    Essential  

    • A degree in Water Engineering or Sanitation  
    • Professional experience of 4 years minimum, including 2 years in the field of WASH infrastructure construction in humanitarian or development context. 
    • Solid and progressive management experience working in an emergency response contexts or fragile states 
    • Previous experience of managing and training WASH teams including technical staff 
    • Previous experience in managing integrated Health and WASH activities in a public health programme 
    • Previous experience of project management, implementing integrated Health and WASH projects within agreed timescales and budget limitations 
    • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability in an emergency integrated Health and WASH context 
    • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation 
    • Some experience of representation and ability to represent Save the Children effectively in external forums. Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children’s mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support 
    • Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports 
    • Excellent communication skills 
    • Strong influencing skills 
    • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy 
    • A high level of written and spoken English 
    • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances. 
    • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of Save the Children’s mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support 
    • Ability to speak and communicate in English/Kiswahili 

    Desirable: 

    • Previous experience in working with a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) 
    • Previous experience in addressing Cholera issues 
    • Knowledge of Save the Children systems and ways of working.  
    • Experience with working with subcontractors 
    • Local languages is an added advantage 
    • Direct experience in the geographical area of intervention of Save the Children
