    Legal Specialist

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Under the guidance of the Acting Head of the Frontiers in Environmental Law Unit and in consultation with the Industry and Economy Division, the consultant is expected to:

    • build on existing research and analysis to synthesize key insights and learnings on EPR design and implementation across sectors.
    • organize and assist in the organization of dialogues to facilitate the exchanges of experience and lessons learned among governments on EPR design and implementation.
    • document and support the dissemination of key findings from the EPR-related work.
    • support project proposals and knowledge products development on textile regulations and laws.
    • provide legal support for the scoping and development of textiles policies in targeted developing countries;
    • develop and deliver trainings for policymakers and other stakeholders on best practices and examples of textiles laws and regulations to support countries to transition towards a circular and sustainable economy.
    • undertake basic or extensive review of legal documents, instruments, and other materials on environmental law matters, with a focus on pollution-related legal issues; and prepare or assist in the preparation of presentations, background papers, briefs, reports and correspondence on environmental law matters, with a focus on pollution-related legal issues.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental law, international law, human rights or a related field. A first-level university degree in law in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in law, including legal analysis, research and writing is required.
    • Prior experience working on international and/or national environmental law relating to pollution issues is required. Prior experience working with the UN or similar international organizations is required.
    • A minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. Excellent writing and communications skills are desirable.
    • Excellent research and analytical skills, in particular in legal analysis, and expertise in independent research and review are desirable. Clear and concise communication is desirable.

    External Relations and Resource Mobilization Consultant

    The Consultant will deliver expert-level services to advance UN-REDD’s external relations and partnership mobilisation objectives in the first year of the 2026–2030 Strategy, engaging a broad range of public, private, multilateral, bilateral, and philanthropic partners. The consultancy will deliver targeted support across two key areas:

    • Partnership and Donor Engagement
    • Identify, analyse, and prioritise partnership and funding opportunities with governments, multilateral and bilateral organisations, philanthropic foundations, private sector actors, and other relevant stakeholders.
    • Develop tailored engagement strategies for priority partners, including preparation of high-quality briefing materials, talking points, and proposals.
    • Maintain awareness of shifts in donor and partner priorities, supported by high-quality briefing materials, talking points and proposals.
    • Recommend and coordinate follow-up actions to consolidate and deepen relationships over time.
    • Collaboration with International Organisations and Initiatives
    • Map relevant international organisations, thematic coalitions, and initiatives aligned with with UN-REDD’s mandate.
    • Analyse synergies and complementarities to strengthen collaboration and collective impact.
    • Propose and support concrete actions for strengthening cooperation, including co-hosted events, joint statements, or collaborative programmes.
    • Prepare engagement briefs and positioning materials for meetings with key organisations and initiatives.

    Qualifications/special skills

    EDUCATION

    • An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in social sciences, political sciences, international relations, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree, combined with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

    EXPERIENCE

    • A minimum of ten years of relevant work experience in donor relations, partnership development, and/or external relations in the context of international development, environmental issues, climate change, or humanitarian action, is required.
    • Extensive experience in programme management, including strategic planning, partner engagement, and development of high-quality proposals, briefings, and outreach materials for a range of audiences, is desirable.
    • Demonstrated track record in analysing donor and partner landscapes, developing tailored engagement strategies, and securing multi-year and thematic funding from diverse sources, including governments, multilateral organisations, philanthropic foundations, and private sector actors, is desirable.
    • Significant experience in multi-stakeholder engagement, including with senior officials in UN agencies, governments, and international organisations, and in convening high-level events at major policy milestones (e.g., COP, UNGA, UNEA), is desirable.

    Programme Management Officer, P4

    Responsibilities

    • Develops, implements and evaluates assigned programmes/projects in Somalia; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and initiates corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; ensures follow-up actions.
    • Manages all projects implemented by the Disasters and Conflicts Branch in Somalia, in coordination with consortium partners, donors, the State and Federal Governments of Somalia and other stakeholders
    • Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with the Government of Somalia and UNEP and the UN in Somalia, by planning and facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions, and by assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
    • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
    • Coordinates policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies, • Generates survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses; identify problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
    • Organizes and prepares written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
    • Provides substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
    • Initiates and coordinates outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
    • Leads and/or participates in large, complex field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.
    • Coordinates activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
    • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Education

    • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in management, environment, international affairs or a related field.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, or related area is required
    • A minimum of five years of experience in United Nations field operations, special political missions, or similar international organizations or non-governmental organizations or contexts in conflict, disaster, post-disaster or post-conflict setting is required Solid experience of managing environmental field projects in the most vulnerable, fragile or conflict-affected settings is required.
    • Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. Experience working as a member of a UN Country Team is desirable.
    • Experience working on Somalia projects is desirable.
