    Carpenter

    Job Description
    Reporting to the Maintenance Officer, the holder of this position will be responsible for providing carpentry services to the university.

    Job Responsibilities

    1. Build and repair furniture to meet various needs.
    2. Carry out weekly routine inspections on furniture and fixtures to facilitate repairs.
    3. Inspect and replace damaged framework, roofs or other structures and fixtures.
    4. Keep log of job cards to track response times and material use.
    5. Installing wooden structures such as roofing frames, rafters, partitions, joists and stud works.
    6. Designing and installing cabinets, shelving, fitted furniture, drywall and insulation.
    7. Adding fixtures and fittings such as door handles, locks, hinges and closures.
    8. Carry out all Aluminum Fittings, repairs and glass Panes replacement.
    9. Ability to estimate material requirements such as lumber and other accessories for a particular job requirement.
    10. Liaising with clients, suppliers and other construction professionals.
    11. Interpret blueprints and building plans to meet the needs.
    12. Any other Job as may be instructed by the Maintenance Officer.

    Educational Qualifications:

    1. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade ‘D’ plain or its equivalent from a recognized institution; and
    2. Artisan National Trade Test Certificate Grade /apprentice Certificate awarded by the National Industrial Training Authority or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
    3. Served as Carpenter for a minimum of 3 years.
    4. Knowledge and Experience of both Industrial and Domestic Aluminum and Carpentry fittings.
    5. The applicant must be a team builder with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    6. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

    Hostel Receptionist

    Job Description
    Reporting to the Housing Officer, the holder of this position will be responsible for supporting the day to day running of the hostel reception.

    Job Responsibilities

    1. The delivery of the highest levels of good customer service.
    2. To be a first point of contact for all who come to Hostels including staff, visitors and clients.
    3. To welcome staff, visitors and clients, sign clients and visitors in and out accurately and ensure that access is granted accordingly.
    4. To operate the switchboard, redirecting calls or taking messages as appropriate.
    5. To take in post, parcels and other delivered items; sort and distribute accordingly.
    6. Providing a professional and welcoming environment for all clients.
    7. Liaise with Housing Officer and Resident assistants to arrange for appointments for any assessments.
    8. Be aware of the general wellbeing of the residence highlighting any concerns to the housing officer.
    9. Ensure that the reception and surrounding area remain clean and tidy at all times and ensure that information displayed about the housing section is up to date.
    10. Ensure that the Reception Handover book and any supporting information is maintained on a regular basis.
    11. Ensure that any personal information received verbally or in writing is treated confidentially and is only passed on to appropriate colleagues.
    12. Handle hostel security duties to enhance harmony and take corrective measures where necessary.

    Educational Qualifications

    1. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C– (minus).
    2. Diploma in Front Office Operations.
    3. Proficiency in Computer Applications.

    Office Administrator

    Job Summary

    Reporting to the University Librarian, the holder of this position will be responsible for handling all the administrative duties within the library to ensure seamless and effective service delivery to all clients

    Job Responsibilities

    1. Manage the University Librarian’s diary to ensure smooth running of scheduled appointments.
    2. Prepare department’s manual payment/purchase requisitions and local purchase orders (LPOs) for authorization by the University Librarian to ensure timely delivery of books, services and non-stock stationery.
    3. Prepare correspondence for the University Librarian’s signature to ensure accurate and efficient service delivery
    4. Receive department mail for distribution to addressees to facilitate communication
    5. Follow up and confirm all payments and requisitions made with the Finance Department for timely payment and maintenance of records
    6. Responsible for making all flight and hotel reservations for all departmental staff to ensure timely travel and accommodation reservations
    7. Create, maintain and update University Librarian’s filing system for ease of reference; Maintain stock of personnel utility forms for ease of acquisition and use by the department staff.
    8. Ensure proper external communication information/public relations – respond to telephone queries from the general public and from internal members. Telephone and reception duties to effectively attend to the University Librarian and direct callers and visitors for timely and appropriate assistance to ensure efficient service delivery.
    9. Prepare stationery transport, job card requisitions and organize for security gate passes for the University Librarian/department to ensure effective service delivery.
    10. Receive (written) booking requests of the library conference room and secure the venue to facilitate scheduled meetings
    11. Responsible for logistics for library functions, meetings, events, workshops etc.
    12. Record departmental staff meeting minutes for reference purposes
    13. Receive and acknowledge theses from schools, book donations, etc., maintain a record of items received and forward to acquisitions in record time
    14. Receive theses /dissertations from students for binding and maintain an accurate record of all theses received and collected
    15. Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

    Educational Qualifications

    1. Undergraduate degree from an accredited university.
    2. Advanced Secretarial level.
    3. Three years’ experience in a similar setting preferably in an institution of higher learning.
    4. Computer Skills.
    5. The applicant must be a team builder with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    6. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

    3. Work experience in an institutional office is an added advantage.
