    Homeroom Teacher

     

    Role Summary
    A PYP Homeroom Teacher is an informed, reflective practitioner who uses inquiry-based learning and teaching strategies to create a positive learning environment that motivates and challenges all learners to develop attributes of the IB Learner Profile to become independent, life-long learners and leaders. The teacher will ensure students’ success and address individual learning needs of each student.  He/she will be responsible for creating an inquiry-based classroom and teaching within the IB's Primary Years Programme (PYP) philosophy. 

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education/Bachelor’s degree with PGCE
    • 5 years of teaching experience, preferably in an international school
    • PYP-focused professional development will be an added advantage
    • Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural collaborative environment
    • Be conversant with the use of technology as a teaching and learning tool
    • Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate
    • Letter of References or Certificate of good conduct.

    Teacher Librarian

    Role Summary

    It is the role of the Teacher Librarian to manage the day-to-day operations of the library. The Teacher Librarian is also responsible for teaching a library and research-based class at the nursery school. The Teacher librarian will be responsible for all aspects of the planning, preparation and delivery, and evaluating resource-based programs for each student in the allocated classes. The Teacher Librarian shall work collaboratively with staff to deliver a supportive and engaging curriculum with inquiry at the center of teaching and learning.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers in planning, teaching and learning in the PYP.
    • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to ensure information literacy skills and processes are integrated into curriculum-based learning experiences.
    • Model and encourage 21st Century collaborative learning behaviors, fully utilizing available resources.
    • Maintain a high level of knowledge and interest in new and emerging technologies.
    • Support the teachers in maintaining a positive and stimulating learning environment.
    • Promote and foster a culture of reading for enjoyment.
    • Maintain the library as a center of learning and inquiry for the school.
    • Planning the library programme integrated with the overall school curricula.
    • Developing a plan to evaluate the library programme in line with the curricula expectations.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Degree in Library and Information Science plus a teaching qualification
    • Proficiency in current technologies including but not limited to Microsoft Office packages
    • 5 years’ experience in a similar position
    • TSC Certificate
    • Experience of teaching in a school environment
    • Letters of reference or Certificate of good conduct

    PE / Swimming Teacher

    The PE/Swimming Teacher shall be responsible for teaching physical education / Swimming and sports to all students at the Nursery School, developing their ability to compete in sporting / swimming events while evaluating their performance as per the objectives and standards of the Primary Years Programme.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Maintaining accurate records of work, and student progress, which reflect a skill progression through the school.
    • The planning and organization of the school’s yearly/termly sports calendar.
    • The organization of all school sporting events e.g., sports days, house games etc.
    • Undertaking basic health education programmes which prepare students for life.
    • Attending parents’ sessions and providing them with comprehensive reports on their child’s progress
    • Encouraging and developing physical fitness and skills so as to build the learners’ self-esteem through sports.
    • Submission of yearly budget forecast for the department.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education (Physical Education).
    • At least 5 years’ teaching experience in a reputable school.
    • PYP focused professional development.
    • Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate.
    • Letters of reference or Certificate of good conduct.

    Teacher Assistant

    Role Summary

    The role of the Teacher Assistant is to provide professional support to the Teacher in facilitating continuous implementation of the IB philosophies in addition to planning for lessons in the assigned classes, IB documentation, and to ensure inquiry-based learning.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assisting in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the class teacher.
    • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
    • Assist with preparation of lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
    • Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and other stationery to students.
    • Distribute tests and home assignments and collect them when they are completed.
    • Supervise the classroom when the Homeroom Teacher is out of the room.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • KCSE Certificate
    • P1 Teaching Diploma /KNEC ECD Diploma OR Education
    • TSC registration certificate
    • Some knowledge of IB Primary Years Program Teaching
    • I.T. skills including experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365 and other educational applications)
    • 2-5 years of continuous teaching experience
    • Letters of reference or Certificate of Good Conduct
