    Shop Machinist

    Location: Ruiru

    • To Train the tool maintenance team and supervise all their operations.
    • To Train and offer leadership on HASS as may be requested.
    • To carry out all sheet metal tool maintenance operations.
    • To supervise and to carry out the machining and the assembly processes of all new in-house tools, jigs and fixtures.
    • Take a supervisory role in testing and foreseeing the initial production of all new in-house tools.
    • To help in plant maintenance when as required.
    • Carry out machining operation:
    • Carry out all standardised preventive maintenance plans for machines.
    • To help in planning and to carry out the assigned machining jobs.
    • Generate the required tool paths, and G-Code machining programs to perfectly machine any required work piece.
    • To run the machine as per the SOP’s.
    • To document and report the machining tasks to the direct manager.
    • To help in preparing all spare parts and consumables lists required for the machine.
    • To help in machine errors troubleshooting.
    • Train technicians on using the machine when needed.
    • To machine, to build and to operate all soft tools and to produce the required samples out of it as per the need of the Engineering and the NPD teams.
    • Ensure a safe and organized shop workspace.
    • Always act as a positive representative of the company and consider environmental implications in the factory.

    Tooling Engineer

    Roles and responsibilities

    • Design, analysis, and costing of the required sheet metal soft and production tools.
    • Work closely with the machinists to ensure successful machining, and cutting operations for all the tool parts.
    • Carry out tools building/assembly activities.
    • Helping in managing the tooling workshop’s materials and hardware warehouse.
    • Work closely with the New Product Development teams to ensure design for manufacturability.
    • Carry out all assigned tasks in outsourced tools purchases and machining projects.
    • Help in training tooling technicians and machinists on the best practices in sheet metal tooling design, machining, and building and maintenance activities.
    • Participate in root cause analysis sessions for tools breakdowns.
    • Help in achieving efficient utilization of the workshop’s machine tools.
    • Ensure conformity with the company’s SOPs, and help improving the tooling workshop procedures.

    Head Of Engineering and Technology

    About the Role

    BURN is looking for a Head of Engineering & Technology whose overall responsibility will be to bring new Electric cooking products through the product development process and launch them into the factory, including design, testing, engineering, process development, and developing/launching new production lines.

     Roles and Responsibilities

    • Overall responsibility for launching new electric cooking products in the factory, including timelines, budgets, and risk analysis in addition to technical aspects.
    • Detailed design of new products, including process development, equipment selection, design for manufacturability, durability testing, material selection, etc.
    • Design and produce production, assembly, and QC tooling as well as custom factory equipment.
    • Oversee initial production of new products.
    • Team management of engineers, testing lab, and workshop. Work closely with designers, market research, factory management, quality control.
    • Develop SOP’s, WI, specs, tolerances, QA processes and procedures.
    • Create and adhere to budgets and timelines.
    • Support the factory, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, equipment startup, and continuous improvement.
    • Oversee the development of new production processes and related documentation.
    • Manage a team of electrical, firmware and software engineers for internal and outsourced development.

     

    Skills and Experience

    • We expect 6-10 years of relevant experience and experience leading consumer product development in African markets is highly desired.
    • You are a strong communicator, have always the overview over all moving pieces in your team. You perceive fast moving targets and changing priorities as a fun exercise, as your proactivity usually makes you faster than them. 
    • You build strong, fact driven decision making materials with your teams. You have tremendous experience in managing divers’ teams that might span different time zones.

    Manufacturing Engineering Technician

    BURN is looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineering Technician to support the manufacturing processes in implementing improvements in production and output. You must be highly competent in maintenance, fixtures, gathering of data in manual assembly operations. 

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Maintenance of fixtures and Jigs for assembly lines.
    • Process Flows.
    • Time studies, models used by ERP for capacity calculations.
    • Will work closely with Maintenance, ensuring production lines are well maintained, and to the latest standards.
    • Continuous Improvement action reducing costs.
    • Work instructions.
    • May need to work multiple (non-daytime) shifts. Will be the engineering representative on off shifts. 

     

     Skills and Experience

    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience supporting manufacturing organizations – preferable in manual assembly operations. 
    • Must have analytical and problem-solving skills (hands-on preferred). 
    • Must be able to manage large sets of spreadsheet data related to production times, and manufacturing processes. 
    • Must be able to visually and in written format, present manufacturing information to the production line, and support the engineering team in cost reduction efforts.

    About the Role

Each of the core responsibilities will have an associated team with a manager that will report to the HOPEC.

    • Develop the product: The role holder will manage the development of the technology, the cooking product and related software. S/he will focus on the customer throughout the entire customer journey, and take care of all the related internal stakeholders.
    • Managing internal design and co-development of the product with external suppliers
    • Manage the engineering team:
    • Hard-ware development (PCB and integration in the cooking product)
    • Firmware development for the PCB
    • Software development of backend, frontend, data warehousing and app.

    Additional responsibilities

    • Technology Implementation: The role holder will be required partly in-house and partly outsourced and manage the implementation of any required third-party technology, to suit the local markets and fit the business model.
    • Strategy: The role holder will work in collaboration with the senior team to ensure the product vision, business model and product are well aligned.
    • Continuous product improvement: The role holder will innovate and improve the currently available solutions from a UI/UX and technical perspective. S/he will manage Product improvement with regards to user interface and functionality.
    • Project Management: The role holder will be required to make detailed specifications/requirements and milestones for outsourced tasks and ensure that they are within set timelines, budget and costs. Manage supplier communication contracting and integration of results into the existing system and team.
