    Principal Engineer

    Job Description

    As a member of Energy Consulting, the successful candidate will lead and actively contribute to GE business initiatives related to power systems and power electronics equipment and services.

    Role Summary/Purpose

    This position is for a Principal Engineer – specialized in Power System Operation, Analysis and Planning.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Leading and conducting technical analysis related to power electronics and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, large industrial drives and FACTS. 
    • Identifying scope of studies and modeling efforts required to solve GE and GE customer technical challenges and preparing proposals in collaboration with other technical and commercial contributors.
    • Contributing to multiple project teams to perform technical analysis and to mentor and advise other team members. Organizing project teams and guiding the work of individual contributors to the team effort.
    • Managing project technical work, cost, and schedule.
    • Documenting and presenting project findings and deliverables
    • Learning new technologies and adapting team capabilities to meet the needs of the industry and of GE
    • Developing technical understanding of electrical characteristics of GE generation and transmission products and their integration to electrical grids
    • Initiating, leading and conducting technical marketing activities (i.e., using technical analysis to develop and support market opportunities for power system products and services)
    • Enhancing industry knowledge and presenting technical content in customer seminars, regional forums, technical workshops, and professional society conferences
    • Actively participating in a global working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Masters or equivalent degree in Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, or Power Systems Engineering
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electric power industry
    • Demonstrated experience in technical performance analysis of electric power systems with power electronics sources or loads
    • Ability to perform engineering analysis and design, and to develop engineering solutions in a team environment, and to provide technical consulting services to customers
    • Ability to lead project teams conducting technical analysis and to effectively represent the team to our customers
    • Proficiency in key software analytical tools, e.g., PSCAD, PowerFactory, PSS/E, ETAP, ATP, EMTP-RV, PVsyst, MATLAB, Python, PSLF
    • Demonstrated ability in mentoring less experienced engineers
    • Strong technical and analytical skills, written and oral communication skills
    • Willingness to travel (30% is typical)

    Desired:

    • PhD degree or Doctorate, in Engineering or other advanced degree with focus on electrical power industry

    • Experience in Power systems and Grid studies: HVDC/HVAC/Grid Design, steady state load flow studies, short circuit analysis, transient & dynamic stability analysis, protection coordination and relay settings studies, power quality studies and earthing design.
    • Experience using and creating models of complex equipment in transient analysis (ATP, EMTP-RV, PSCAD, etc) and stability (PSSE, PowerFactory etc) simulation tools based on field tests or equipment.
    • Experience in coding/scripting in languages such as DPL, DSL, Python, C etc.
    • Experience supporting power electronics control development for products connected to bulk utility systems or large industrial systems.
    • Familiarity with modeling and simulation requirements globally
    • Experience in preparation of complex technical proposals
    • Active participation within industry professional societies, such as IEEE or CIGRE
    • Strong written and oral communication skills suitable for making presentations to internal and external business customers, and for supporting GE executive external communications, an additional Language (Arabic, French) is preferred.

    Professional Services Category Management Executive

    Job Description Summary

    In this role, you will be responsible for leading strategic sourcing activities across all aspects of GE Vernova spend for Professional Services. Responsible for wide variety of services sourcing including financial services, HR services, consulting, employee benefits, payroll, legal services, marketing advertising, communications, etc. This includes taking strategic ownership of entire category spend, developing strategies to reduce total cost of ownership – including vendor management, demand management, and governance/compliance – to achieve initial step change total cost out (TCO) reduction and ongoing year-over-year improvements. The Professional Services Category Management Executive will work with the regional category management teams to set global strategy, coordinate sourcing efforts and policy, and execute initiatives. This role will also partner with GE functional stakeholders in Business Sourcing, Operations, Supply-Chain, Corporate, and other functions to drive TCO reduction while delivering excellent service levels to the organization. You will provide leadership support in building teams of best-in-class talent and foster an environment of strong collaboration and engagement. As the Category Management Leader, you will establish relationships by building trust with internal and external stakeholders, then develop and execute strategies to meet business needs and outcomes.

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee development/execution of strategies through the sourcing process within the Professional Services spend category.
    • Champion and secure TCO reductions in Professional Services category.
    • Drive competitive benchmarking for Professional Services (i.e., update should-cost analysis, work closely with functions like Finance, HR, etc.).
    • Oversee end-to-end Sourcing process: strategy, market analysis, negotiation process (RFXs), supplier selection, contract creation, and buy channel management.
    • Partner with cross-function leadership at the highest levels to ensure all commercial requirements capture desired cost, performance, service, and business outcomes.
    • Lead and manage multi-functional stakeholder teams on specific strategic sourcing initiatives or projects.
    • Drive best practices.
    • Drive Lean methodology at all levels to include implementing Standard Work, Daily Management, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizens.
    • Measure and track internal performance within the Professional Services category.
    • Monitor strategy implementation to ensure benefit realization.
    • Drive value through supplier relationship management.
    • Lead the Professional Services spend activities related to the GE Vernova transition to include working with business units to clarify roles and responsibilities, to standardize processes and tools, and to identify and drive strategic synergies across regions and business units.
    • Negotiate the full spectrum of products, goods, and services in the Professional Services category on behalf of GE Vernova.
    • Collaborate with appropriate finance, compliance, and legal subject matter experts in the negotiation and execution of high value contracts including Master Services, Enterprise License, Master Product Agreements.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent knowledge/experience
    • Significant years of experience in Sourcing, Operations, Supply Chain Management, or Finance
    • Demonstrated ability in leading large scale organizational, process, and culture change
    • Significant years of experience leading teams
    • Demonstrated ability to influence in a matrixed organization

    Desired Characteristics:

    • MBA or B.S. in Sourcing, Supply Chain Management, or Finance or equivalent knowledge/experience
    • Category Management (Professional Services), Contract Management, and Sourcing experience in a multi-national company
    • Track record of driving step-change improvement in Sourcing or similar function.
    • Strong analytical skills (Spend analytics, should-cost analysis, market R&I)
    • Communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve; creates actionable strategies and operational plans.
