    Interior Designer

    The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit an Interior Designer to advise on aesthetic solutions for buildings and spaces and ensuring that they fulfil their purpose in terms of condition, safety, functionality and compliance with relevant standards

    Key Responsibilities: 

    • Gather and obtain client/customer briefs and requirements, interpret and present for approval
    • Plan, design, detail, and supervise interior works including materials, furniture, paint/colors, furnishings, joinery, fittings, light effects, ventilation, decoration, energy management and finishing/final facility outlook and ensure optimal space usage for new and existing buildings
    • Prepare project presentations, models, including renders, 3Ds, and images for ease of client understanding
    • Research, obtain and arrange for material samples, site visits and supplier due diligence
    • Prepare Gantt charts, timeline schedule for projects, cost estimates for jobs and ensure design/work execution is done as per approved budget
    • Supervise contractors to ensure construction is as per design and specifications
    • Conduct and document regular facilities inspections, make proposals on upgrades or repairs
    • Develop and maintain various databases and filing systems for drawings, works specifications and closed jobs
    • Prepare relevant reports and reviews
    • Perform any other related duties as may be required

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, art and design or relevant field
    • Relevant professional certification
    • Six years relevant experience in design and supervision of construction in relevant work environment
    • Experience in using computer aided design (AUTOCAD, ArchiCAD) or other relevant design software
    • Working knowledge of principles and practices of project management
    • Contract management knowledge and experience
    • knowledge, experience and/or certification in green building design, environmental management and sustainable development goals integration in design and construction
    • Sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations
    • Broad / specialized knowledge of methods, techniques and processes

    Terms of Appointment

    Communication Officer

    The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Communication Officer to support the start-up of the One Health Centre that will be launched in mid-2020 at ILRI. The candidate will develop and implement an innovative communication strategy to ensure stakeholders are aware of the new centre. In addition, this position will spend half the time supporting communications for a project on co-infection in the Animal and Human Health program. This role will help to communicate the project results to key stakeholders, support communications amongst project partners and mitigate any issues related to communication of results. This position will report to the Team Leader One Health Centre and the PI for the Co-Infection project in the Animal and Human Health program, and will work closely with the Biosciences Communications manager, and ILRI Communications and Knowledge Management Team.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Support the launching of a new One Health Centre

    • Develop and implement an external and internal communication plan for the centre
    • In-line with ILRI guidelines, develop a branding and marketing strategy
    • Provide regular updates on project findings and activities to key stakeholders (i.e. blog posts, newsletters)
    • Work closely with the ILRI Bioscience Communications Manager as the link to AMR related projects from the CGIAR AMR Hub and other zoonotic disease not covered by One Health Centre
    • Develop and oversee a crisis communication plan (e.g. sensitive research topics) working in line with ILRI CKM
    • Support production of knowledge products from One Health Centre findings
    • Work with One Health Centre fellows, scientists and stakeholders to generate progress and success stories
    • Facilitate (moderate) stakeholder and planning meetings
    • Maintain and update online content including the ILRI online repository and social media
    • Facilitate and promote knowledge sharing through maintenance of the centre’s Share Point page
    • Maintain a list of media and partner contacts (in collaboration with ILRI CKM)

    Co-infection project in the Animal and Human Health program

    1. Lead the development of the projects’ communication plans
    2. Communicating about the project:  Develop the project communication tools (e.g. on-line portal) and materials (newsletters, brochures, stories), oversee their use or dissemination and provide feedback to the project team on their performance/uptake
    3. Internal sharing and collaboration: develop and maintain communication tools and channels within the consortium to improve sharing amongst project team
    4. Lead the project’s risk communication activities to ensure that findings of bio-surveillance activities are promptly shared with the target communities and relevant stakeholders so that appropriate interventions for epidemics and other health risks observed are implemented on time.
    • Liaise with AHH CKM staff and Institutional CKM staff – develop plans and activities based on ILRI CKM strategy and closely work with CKM staff to be able to use ILRI use of ILRI CKM services and ensure materials adhere to ILRI standards and participate in ILRI CKM activities that are relevant to the One Health Centre.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field
    • 7 years’ experience in communications for development or agriculture
    • Experience in developing communication and knowledge management strategies
    • Proven ability to communicate research findings using various media
    • Fluency in writing English
    • Expertise in risk communication in project context
    • Experience in developing behaviour change communication plans to reach different audiences
    • Ability to facilitate stakeholder meetings.
    • Highly competent in using a range of web-based and social media tools
    • Knowledge of internal sharing tool such as share point an advantage

    Program Coordinator (Open until filled)

    The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Program Coordinator to be responsible for the management, coordination and oversight of planning, implementing and communicating different program and projects within the “Transformation of Animal Health Services and Solution in Low to Middle Income Countries (TAHSSL)” initiative.

    The Program

    TAHSSL will be formed through a strategic partnership to leverage the comparative advantages of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), a CGIAR global livestock agriculture research for development center, ClinGlobal, an African based private contract research organization (CRO) that supports research and development (R&D) programs of Global Animal Health Companies (GAHC), and the Global Alliance for Livestock and Veterinary Medicine (GALVmed), a product and market development organization improving access to Veterinary Medicinal Products (VMPs) by smallholder farmers in Africa and Asia.

    TAHSSL will build a “one-stop-shop” to conduct research on animal-health product technologies to generate robust proof-of-concept results that are of high quality and to facilitate with the private sector product development, registration and use. The focus will be on developing veterinary medicines and diagnostic solutions to address animal health disease constraints in low-middle income countries (LMIC) and providing services to help fill the product development pipeline.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage the operational and tactical aspects of all TAHSSL projects - keep all partners of the platform up-to-date with relevant project information and ensure maximum efficacy
    • Lead the planning and coordination of the TAHSSL program and its activities 
    • Responsible for overall project and program activity reporting ( including to TAHSSL Advisory Committee (TAC) and funding organizations)
    • Ensure the implementation of common policies and practices of all three TAHSSL partners through close collaboration with partner members of the TAHSSL Coordination Team
    • Responsible for TAHSSL budget and track expenditures and transactions - handle the TAHSSL related financial administration in close alignment with ILRI’s finance department
    • Help build positive relations within the tripartite platform and additional partners - schedule and organize the TAC, coordination and project meetings & minimize exposure and risk across multiple projects
    • Manage communications through media relations
    • Support scientists in proposal writing.

    Requirements

    • PhD in Life Science;
    • At least 10 years’ experience in coordinating multi-disciplinary and multi-partner projects;
    • Thorough understanding and experience of Animal Health issues in LMICs, especially infectious disease control and treatment;
    • Proven track record of successfully managing multi-disciplinary and multi-partner programmes ensuring efficiency and effectiveness;
    • Proven track record in successfully managing multiple donors;
    • Strong interpersonal skills.

    • Expertise in the commercial sector;
    • Expertise in management of BMGF grants;
    • MBA/Certification in Program/project management.

    ILRI Internship

    The Position:

    Internships are short-term academic training for young professionals who join ILRI for a short period (usually 3 months or less but can be up to 6 months in length) as part of their academic curriculum and are expected to resume their studies upon completion of their internship. The internship aims at helping students connect theory to practice, as well as nurturing young minds into livestock agriculture.

    Interns work five days per week under the supervision and mentorship of a staff member in the department or program to which they are assigned.

    Requirements:

    Applicants must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

    1.   Be enrolled for an undergraduate university degree program, with at least one full semester to completion. Through strategic partnerships, ILRI also provides internship opportunities to students enrolled for diploma and certificate programs, as well as senior high school students.
    2.   Proficiency in Microsoft Office
    3.   Proficiency in English.

    Terms of appointment: ILRI offers a stipend to cover living expenses as well as insurance.
