    Head of Department Big Data & Analytics

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer the position holder will be responsible for defining and owning the vision, strategy, policies and guidelines for Big Data and Analytics and driving excellence in execution. The role holder is responsible to evolve and lead our Big Data and Analytics as a Center of excellence to world class status. This will be through thought leadership on the utilization of our proprietary data as a competitive advantage internally and externally in the market. 

    They will leverage our data assets as a strategic differentiator through the enablement of better decision making and maximize value generation driving towards an insights-driven, data-led culture across the organization.

    Responsibilities

     Key accountabilities and decision ownership: 

    • Define and implement the strategy for companywide Big Data and analytics to ensure the user functions needs are implemented and deliver their use case requirements
    • Provide thought leadership across the business to drive the adoption of world class practices in the fields of Big Data and analytics to deliver measurable business benefit
    • Liaise with EXCO to define specific big data requirements that will aide decision making in line with strategy and mission delivery in their domains and for the wider business
    • Use advanced analytics and statistical methods to analyse the company’s data to unlock new opportunities as well as answer complex business questions to understand customer behaviour and business trends
    • Contribute to the technology strategy for analytics platforms in liaison with Technology Lead and other key stakeholders to ensure overall Data requirements are met through the use of advanced technologies in the most cost effective and efficient way
    • Lead in Building of advanced analytics skills and proficiency across the business to increase the output for decentralized decision making at the lowest level
    • Drive an insight driven, data-led culture within the organization
    • Implement a Data-first capability for scaled AI impact across Safaricom 
    • Embed AI and IA in processes, systems for increased Adoption across the organization 
    • Implement AI Digital framework for Safaricom, foundation and associates 
    • Deliver an Enterprise CVM AI powered capability (process, system)
    • Delivers timely and accurate reports to satisfy statutory and business requirements 
    • World class AI capability built, acquired to enhance internally build, commercial value generated through AI (including customer service, revenue, cost and efficiency gains) 
    • Identifies key performance and variances, and provides recommendations 

    Qualifications

    Must have technical / professional qualifications: 

    • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a business-related field and/or information Technology
    • Advanced qualifications in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field preferred
    • At least 15 years working experience in Analytics or Business Intelligence function
    • Strong understanding of data to insight value chain (IoT, Data Integration, Data Management, Big Data, BI, AI/ML) and driving data literacy and insight-to-action capabilities across the company.
    • Strong stakeholder engagement ability to relate with internal and external customers and working teams, forging good personal relationships both within and outside the company.
    • Strong leadership skills and ability to attract, retain and develop teams of various technical backgrounds
    • Deep analytical skills and keen attention to details
    • Strong Project planning & delivery capability
    • Expert ability to remodel static operational reports into Analytical reports
    • Expert ability to work under tight deadlines and without supervision

    M-Pesa Africa - End User Support Administrator

    About the Role

    Reporting to Service Operations Manager, the End User Support Administrator will be responsible for overseeing the delivery, configuration, and security of IT hardware and software across the organization. This role ensures that all client computing requests are managed efficiently, with minimal disruption, and that projects are implemented seamlessly into the desktop environment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, experience in IT asset management, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams in providing high-quality support and innovative solutions.

    Responsibilities

    • Deliver timely and quality IT hardware, software, and client computing support, including desktops, laptops, handheld devices, printers, servers, and operating systems;
    • Administer and configure IT assets, including hardware, software, and IP telephony;
    • Manage change requests and ensure disaster recovery and security of the client desktop environment;
    • Implement and support IT projects on the desktop end;
    • Maintain up-to-date and accurate inventory information for IT assets;
    • Support user account management, including creation, modification, and deactivation in Microsoft365/On-Prem AD;
    • Administer enterprise tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Microsoft365/EntraID;
    • Provide user training and support, including the creation of user guides;
    • Ensure smooth handover of location support activities and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders;
    • Innovate and automate desktop support services to enhance efficiency;
    • Manage the rollout of new software and hardware, ensuring secure, authorized, and traceable implementations;
    • Provide support for remote and mobile users, including managing remote access tools and troubleshooting connectivity issues;
    • Track and manage IT inventory, including hardware and software licenses;
    • Ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the Hardware and Software Asset Management (ITAM) database.

    Qualifications

    • A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field;
    • CompTIA A+ or CompTIA Network+ for foundational IT skills;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft365 administration and Active Directory management;
    • Basic understanding of networking principles (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP);
    • Proficiency in macOS, Microsoft365 administration and Active Directory management;
    • Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate or similar certification for expertise in desktop environments;
    • Familiarity with remote support tools and techniques;
    • Experience with IT asset management and inventory control;
    • Experience in working with multi-cultural geographically distributed teams;
    • ITIL Foundation Certification for knowledge of IT Service Management best practices;
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or similar certification for security expertise.

    M-Pesa Africa - Operations Transition Specialist

    About the Role

    The Operations Transition Specialist will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the transition of operational processes, systems, and resources across various markets in Africa. This role ensures that all projects/solutions are managed effectively to minimize disruption and maximize efficiency as they transition to operations. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, a deep understanding of fintech operations, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams through complex transitions.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead and manage transition projects, including planning, execution, monitoring, and closing. Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget;
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regional teams and partners, to ensure smooth transitions. Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization;
    • Analyze and evaluate current operational processes and systems. Identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness;
    • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on operations during transitions;
    • Develop and execute change management plans to ensure successful adoption of new processes and systems. Provide training and support to project teams;
    • Allocate and manage resources effectively to support transition activities. Ensure that teams have the necessary tools and support to succeed;
    • Track and report on transition progress, performance metrics, and outcomes. Provide regular updates to senior management;
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of transition plans, processes, and outcomes. Ensure all relevant information is accessible and up-to-date.

    Qualifications

    Apply if you have: 

    • At least 7 years of experience in managed operations of large scale IT Applications and Services in multi-national environment;
    • Excellent understanding of fintech operations and mobile money services;
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills;
    • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business Administration, Operations Management or a related field;
    • Proven experience as an Operations Transition Manager or in a similar role within the fintech or banking industry.
