AFIDEP, therefore, invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) expert. The position will be based in our Kenya office with responsibilities to coordinate regional activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of the MERL Expert will be to:
- Support BUILD Program partners to develop their respective MERL Plans
- Develop quarterly project performance reports
- Coordinate development of the project’s annual work plans
- Guide the process of identifying key program performance indicators including developing the parameters for monitoring program performance.
- Develop the project monitoring tools
- Track activity implementation and undertake analysis of implementation milestones
- Provide leadership in writing results-based target-oriented quarterly and annual program performance reports.
- Develop a plan for capacity building on M&E for staff of AFIDEP and partner organizations
- Regularly visit BUILD partner organizations to provide M&E technical support
- Communicate learning for internal and external audiences
Qualifications and Experiences
- Undergraduate qualification in Biostatistics, Applied Statistics or a relevant discipline
- Postgraduate qualification in Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Knowledge of integrated multi-sectoral programming
- Good analytical skills coupled with ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
- A minimum of five (5) years experience working as a MERL Officer for a regional or international organization.
- Experience and knowledge in using a wide range of project planning methods and good understanding of the project management cycle.
- Working in a USAID funded project will be an added advantage
Skills and Competencies:
- Proven quantitative and qualitative research skills developed preferably within a research institution.
- Effective communication skills both written and oral
- Creative and independent report writing skills
- Proven ability to structure persuasive arguments in a strategic way
- Fluency in English

Duties and Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will be responsible for the administrative processes and support functions in the project. Specifically, she/he will undertake the following:
- Organize and monitor schedules and see that deadlines are met
- Promptly organise project meetings as scheduled ensure all participants are alerted
- Accurately take notes of the meetings and share with the participants after review by the Project Director or PED Director
- In close collaboration with the AFIDEP Administrative Assistant, implement logistical arrangements and follow up for project meetings and events.
- Maintain the project’s filing system and ensure prompt sharing of reports and resource materials.
- Draft events programmes for review by the Project Director
- Frequently map upcoming health, environment, water, food security, gender and youth global, regional and national events and maintain a clear register
- Maintain communication with the other departments of AFIDEP and update the on the BUILD project
- Report updates verbally and in written form to the Project Director
- Complete any necessary administrative tasks as may be assigned by the Project Director
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Qualifications & experience
- The candidate shall have a Master’s degree in Public Health, Economics, Population Studies, Environmental Science or other social sciences
- Minimum of 3 years of practical experience working as a Project Assistant
- Demonstrated track record in supporting Project Directors/Managers in project implementation
- Proven track record in engagement with both government and non-governmental actors.

AFIDEP seeks highly qualified and self-motivated individuals to fill the position of Human Resources Assistant for its Kenya Offices. Reporting to the Human Resource Manager, the Human Resources Assistants will support the implementation of all HR strategies, programs, and operations, ensuring process effectiveness and efficiency to enable the attainment of AFIDEP’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the HR Manager and Officers during recruitment processes.
- Coordinate orientation and onboarding programs for new staff.
- Offer routine HR support, advice, and guidance to staff and assist teams to adhere to set policies, procedures, and work standards.
- Organize staff meetings and related events and activities such as training sessions, workshops, team-building activities, and staff official travel among others.
- Closely liaise with the Finance team to ensure efficient administration of the monthly payroll and support staff and in optimizing the use of the HRMIS.
- Process enrollments, changes, and terminations of membership in medical and pension benefit plans and programs as applicable.
- Administer the staff leave register, conduct staff work-time analyses, and reporting.
- Maintain proper HR records and databases and perform periodic file and database audits.
- Assist in timesheet training and management and performance review management.
- Support employment separation processes by assisting exiting staff in smooth clearance.
- Any other duties as assigned by authorities from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or Organizational Development or related fields;
- At least 2 years experience in a human resources role, preferably in an NGO set-up, multi-cultural, multi-racial, multi-ethnic environment;
- Strong Human Resources knowledge base and good people skills;
- Policy interpretation and implementation ability;
- Basic knowledge and understanding of relevant labour laws, employee relations practices and HR legal requirements.
- Analytical, critical thinking, logical and systematic thinking;
- Adapt influencing, negotiating, relationship building and networking skills;

USAID Africa Bureau has committed to contribute USD175,000 to BUILD which is earmarked for undertaking landscape analysis (LSA) in the Sub-Saharan Africa region. The purpose of the LSA is to enhance understanding of enabling policies, promising and proven programs, and key regional actors (institutional and individual) in the Population, Health, Environment, and Development (PHED) ecosystems in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). It will also identify potential intervention areas including key policy, programming, and networking opportunities that can benefit from enhanced knowledge sharing, capacity strengthening, and creation and/or reinforcement of PHED Communities of Practice (COPs). Political economy analysis methods will be used to map key stakeholders, including their interests and concerns, to identify major bottlenecks and challenges, and to identify best PHED policy and program practices and opportunities in the region
AFIDEP intends to hire a consultant for a period not exceeding 6 months to support the implementation of the Landscape Analysis activities in SSA together with the BUILD team.
Duties and Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of the Consultant will be to:
- Search, collate, review and analyze data from grey and published literature, and PED/PHE project reports from the sampled countries and regions then write a report
- Collate relevant policies, strategies, guidelines and legislation and undertake a thematic review of the documents. Develop a policy analytical framework and tools including specific questions
- Develop and pre-test the KII tools, sample respondents and conduct Key Informant Interviews
- Map existing PHED Communities of Practice (CoPs) and develop stakeholder analysis tools
- Conduct interviews with select representatives of the CoPs including site visits
- Convene a virtual stakeholders validation workshop
- Hold regional capacity-building policy dialogues for CoPs in EAC and ECOWAS regions
- Draft the Landscape Analysis report
Mandatory Qualifications
- Experience conducting Policy Reviews and Political Economy Analyses;
- Minimum 7 years of experience identifying and reviewing policies and analysing political and economic factors limiting sectoral development in SSA;
- Experience performing governance-related work;
- Master’s Degree in Development Studies, Political Science, Political Economy or similar;
- Fluency in English
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of French;
- PhD in Development Studies, Political Science, Political Economy or similar;
- Experience working with Regional Governmental bodies, Governments, NGOs and Private Sector;
