This role sits within the Human Resources (HR) Communications entity of Aga Khan University’s Human Resources (HR) Department.
The Specialist will report to the Internal Communications & Employee Engagement Manager and will manage the development and delivery of local and global-reach internal communications campaigns and employee engagement initiatives. The Specialist will work collaboratively with the manager and other members of the team to advance the employer branding agenda such that Aga Khan University establishes its position as an employer of choice. The role will provide insight and strategic input into the planning of activities and crafting of key internal and external messages. It will be responsible for monitoring budgets, reporting, managing third party supplier as well as internal stakeholder relationships. The role will have a strong creative eye, capable of writing comprehensive briefs and assessing creative outputs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage comprehensive internal communication and employee engagement strategy, plans, activity calendars and supporting action plans
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with the successful delivery and impact of communication activities
- Establish and nurture relationships with identified internal and external stakeholders
- Manage the development and production of printed and digital content and materials
- Drive cost efficiency through involvement in setting and monitoring of budgets and identifying cost savings for optimised outputs
- Oversee the management and reporting of performance data for continuous improvementLead on planning and execution of events and/or presence at events as required for employee engagement activities as required
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders internally to develop compelling award submissions
- Manage the capture and improvement of HR Communications processes and procedures
- Lead on coordination and delivery of townhall meetings, university assemblies etc.
- Develop comprehensive presentations and case studies for varied audiences as required
- Actively carry out market research and develop insights that will shape day-to-day decision making
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a marketing and/or internal communications role ideally in healthcare or academic industries
- Must have at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing or other relevant subject areas
- Key Account Management experience in a creative agency background is preferred
- Internal communications and employee engagement experience is an asset
- Must have proven project management skills
- Must have excellent people and interpersonal skills
- Demonstratable previous experience working culturally diverse environments
- Must have excellent English comprehension skills and good spoken and written command of the same
- Ability to read and understand Swahili is preferred
- Must be proactive, a problem-solver and be able to navigate fast-paced environments
- Must have excellent presentation skills (verbal and written)
- Must be proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and be comfortable operating on SharePoint and PeopleSoft platform

This role sits within the Human Resources (HR) Communications entity of Aga Khan University’s Human Resources (HR) Department. The copywriter will report to the Global Director Internal Communications, Employee Engagement and Employer Branding Director at a strategic level and work in close collaboration with the Manager(s) and Specialists across a global team day-to-day. The role will be responsible for developing exceptional and engaging written content for all HR Communications internal communications, employee engagement and employer branding outputs. The position will also cater to the copy requirements of the Vice President, Human Resources.
Responsibilities
- Develop clear, compelling, and grammatically flawless long and short form copy for varied digital and printed mediums such as integrated campaigns outputs, social media posts, good news stories, newsletters, intranet and website pages, award submissions, press releases/features, publications etc.
- Develop boilerplates, profile document(s) repository of key messaging and tone of voice to ensure consistency in communication and alignment with Aga Khan University’s brand identity
- Edit and proofread copy as required
- Interpret creative direction and technical information and turn them into persuasive copy concepts
- Collaborate with internal team(s) and internal stakeholders to understand target audiences, brainstorm ideas and develop messaging for a varied range of activities
- Conduct high-quality research to formulate ideas and/or support writing
- Plan and conduct and/or facilitate strategic interviews as required
- Engage in regular interaction with key senior leadership internal academic and hospital leaders/stakeholders with the objective of spotlighting areas of expertise to appropriate audiences
- Draft memorandums, speeches, and official addresses
- Develop and manage content calendar and directory of press listings, press editors and media contacts regionally and internationally
Requirements
- BSc/BA in journalism, English, marketing, communications or related field
- Must have 3 years proven experience as a copywriter Experience writing copy for corporate entities particularly healthcare, academic, not for profit industries is preferred

The Faculty of Health Sciences in East Africa consists of the Medical College and the School of Nursing and Midwifery with future plans for allied health sciences. Reporting to the Dean, Medical College and the CEO, Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH,N), the Chair will provide academic and clinical leadership in the department through the development and implementation of departmental work plans consistent with the vision and mission of the University. The Chair will also be expected to be the liaison between the department, other AKU departments and relevant external bodies and/or agencies.
Responsibilities
- A demonstrated track record of leadership within an academic health sciences centre, teaching hospital or integrated health authority;
- Possess specialist qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and be at, or eligible to be appointed at, an Assistant Professor level or above;
- Registration or be eligible for registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists’ Council;
- Capability of taking an entrepreneurial approach to develop financially viable service enhancements;
- Experience in education at the undergraduate, postgraduate and fellowship level and be engaged in scholarly contributions to the field;
- Experience working in a developing country and /or the ability to adapt in this context;
- Worked in a multi-site and/or in a multi-country institutions or have potential to manage in a similar environment with strong management skills;
- Experience in teaching and exposure to management of undergraduate programmes, collaborative academic research and publications.
