    Responsive Campaigner

    The Campaigner will lead the identification, strategic planning and execution of responsive campaigns within GPAF, employing an integrated approach to drive fundraising and engage audiences in building counter-power. This role will design data-driven, evidence-based campaigns in collaboration with various teams to ensure effective delivery of responsive work. The Campaigner will foster internal alignment on responsive initiatives, creating a system to prioritize emerging issues for GPAF’s responsiveness. The role will entail working closely with program, volunteer, engagement, fundraising and communication staff.

    Main duties 

    Strategic planning

    • Coordinate and supervise all arrangements for responsive campaign activities as required.
    • Represent Greenpeace Africa at meetings, coordination bodies, media, stakeholders, and local communities when required.
    • Collaborate with the Communications team to engage target audiences and ensure media interventions align with campaign objectives.
    • Prepare or assign the preparation of detailed briefings and updates to inform staff, media, and stakeholders about campaign issues, progress, and outcomes.
    • Work with the Fundraising team to develop ways to maximize the campaign’s fundraising potential.
    • Oversee project monitoring and evaluation, providing reports to the Head of Project Development, Senior Portfolio Managers, and campaigners from other offices as needed.
    • Work with the Research team to gather data and insights for shaping responses.
    • Ensure adherence to Greenpeace Africa security guidelines and report any security incidents in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

    Networking and Responsiveness  

    • Adopt a Pan-African perspective in project delivery by leveraging responsive opportunities to advance campaign and project objectives across the continent.
    • Enhance responsiveness and agility within the project team to advance campaign goals.
    • Utilize responsive opportunities aligned with campaign goals to drive impact.
    • Foster relationships with external stakeholders, including civil society, communities, and authorities, to advance the campaign.
    • Establish and maintain active networks with our global network, Greenpeace International (GPI) to enhance the campaign’s impact.
    • Ensure the development of active networks and strong alliances with key strategic stakeholders externally.
    • Ensure specific relevant campaign projects are appropriately budgeted for.
    • Oversee the campaign budget and ensure its effective and timely utilization.

    Qualifications and Experience 

    • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Policy, Development, Biodiversity, or related field
    • 5 years experience in any of these areas: advocacy, awareness-raising, public education, campaign management and coordination.
    • Experience working in a multicultural team.
    • A strong Pan-African Mindset.
    • Familiarity with the development of project proposals and the project management cycle. 
    • Skilled in negotiating, building consensus, bringing together diverse stakeholders, and facilitating dialogue to achieve mutual outcomes.
    • Knowledge and/or experience in campaigning, creative advocacy content, execution of strategies, lobbying, and canvassing projects.

    Social Media Specialist

    The Social Media Specialist will lead on Greenpeace Africa’s social media strategy to reach new audiences and engage them in our campaigns whilst leveraging our supporters and the public to make as much impact on our objectives in that space. The position will be responsible for deliberating strategy, planning and KPIs, creating, managing content and providing analysis on our social media platforms as well as working with consultants and colleagues to deliver. This includes working closely with the Digital Marketing Manager to increase collaboration with paid reach.

    Main duties 

    Lead and implement agile strategies for and manage Greenpeace Africa’s Social Media Platforms

    • Ensure our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, Bluesky, YouTube, LikedIn) are achieving increased engagement to grow our audience, and strengthen our presence in relevant countries. 
    • Grow our supporter base by coming up with powerful ways to increase action on our petitions and asks using social media. 
    • Create and commission content (of all types including video) internally and externally that travels and engages people in our work, constantly ensuring Greenpeace Africa is ahead of the curve and testing new content approaches for success. 
    • Work with presenters and our videographer to script and produce platform specific video content that travels.
    • Explore localisation and regionally relevant content executions to reach new audiences and make sure GPAF is a leader in pan-African social media approaches.
    • Set clear metrics and objectives for impact on social media, give direction to consultants and others working on social media. 
    • Be tapped into trends, industry leaders and platform developments, pivoting quickly to help us grow and engage audiences across Africa and encourage them to act. 
    • Lead by example, creating, coaching and providing the tools necessary for digital and other colleagues to innovate and create impactful executions on social media.
    • Explore and lean into partnerships and collaborations on social media across Africa
    • Develop and deploy effective proactive community management approaches
    • Set Greenpeace Africa apart as a leader in the industry and sector when it comes to social media.

    Analysis and Insight 

    • Provide and action insight from social media daily, weekly, monthly – and respond with speed, creativity and agility. 
    • Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Manager to test messages and content, increase collaboration between organic and paid reach to increase sign ups and donations

    Design digital strategies for Projects 

    • Take part in or lead the project design process to ensure all projects have a strong digital engagement and social media component. 
    • Implement projects and campaign outputs on social media, provide insight during the project to better deliver on set objectives.

    Other Digital Work 

    • Lead on and execute broader digital plans for campaigns where required.

    Qualifications and Experience 

    • Minimum 3 years of work experience in creating social media output across platforms and executing effective and agile strategies 
    • Experience leading on impressive strategies for social media platforms 
    • Commitment to our organisational strategy and reaching a range of audiences across Africa – grounding African consciousness in our social media strategies and outputs and actively looking for opportunities to be pan-African in our approach to digital social media 
    • Demonstrable experience of creating and delivering compelling content for a range of purposes including social media, blogs, video scripts to achieve campaign impact and engagement – and a track record for content that hass had significant reach across platforms
    • Experience of using technology in innovative and creative ways as part of a communications or campaign strategy including AI
    • Good project management skills, able to plan project work in a structured way that allows others to understand what will be delivered and when, and makes delegation easy, if appropriate 
    • Any experience of working with consultants or creative agencies to produce social media content ie video
