    Loan Officer

    • GROOTS Kenya seeks to recruit an experienced Loan Officer who will be dedicated to managing all aspects of the Jasiri Fund at the program management level, reporting to the Jasiri Fund Manager. The Loan Officer will also provide financial literacy training and business development support services to young women survivors of GBV.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Loan Processing and Management:

    • Assess loan applications from young women survivors of GBV, ensuring they meet the eligibility criteria.
    • Conduct thorough appraisals of applicants’ financial status, business plans, and collateral to determine loan viability.
    • Manage the disbursement of loans, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accurate.
    • Monitor and follow up on loan repayments, providing support and guidance to borrowers to ensure timely repayment.

    Financial Literacy Training:

    • Develop and deliver financial literacy training programs tailored to the needs of young women survivors of GBV.
    • Train young women survivors of GBV on budgeting, saving, investment, and responsible borrowing to enhance their financial management skills.
    • Provide one-on-one financial counseling to young women survivors of GBV as needed.

    Business Development Support:

    • Assist young women survivors of GBV in developing viable business plans and strategies for business growth.
    • Offer ongoing business development support, including mentorship, market research, and business expansion advice.
    • Connect young women survivors of GBV with relevant market opportunities and business networks to enhance their business prospects.

    Client Relationship Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with loaned participants, providing continuous support and addressing any challenges they face.
    • Conduct regular field visits to assess the progress of participants’ businesses and provide on-site support and guidance.
    • Collect and document success stories and challenges faced by young women survivors of GBV to inform program improvements.

    Reporting and Compliance:

    • Prepare and submit regular reports on loan disbursement, repayment, and the financial performance.
    • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and donor requirements in all loan management activities.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all loan transactions and interactions with the project participants.

    Collaboration and Coordination:

    • Work closely with the Jasiri Fund Manager and other team members to ensure the effective implementation of the Jasiri Fund.
    • Collaborate with Jasiri Consortium partners and other stakeholders to enhance the support provided to young women survivors of GBV.
    • Participate in relevant meetings, workshops, and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related discipline.
    • At least 3 years of experience in loan management, microfinance, or financial inclusion programs, preferably in development programs focused on gender equality or economic empowerment.
    • Proven experience in financial literacy training and business development support.
    • Strong understanding of loan appraisal, disbursement, and repayment processes.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with beneficiaries.
    • Commitment to gender equality and women’s rights, with experience working with survivors of GBV or other marginalized populations.
    • Strong organizational and reporting skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Fluency in English and Swahili.

    Youth Skilling Officer

    • GROOTS Kenya seeks to recruit an experienced Youth Skilling Officer This program. The Youth Skilling Officer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing skilling activities for young women survivors who receive shelter services under the Jasiri Scale Up Program.

    Responsibilities:

    Program Design and Planning:

    • Develop skilling programs tailored to the needs and interests of young women survivors of gender-based violence participating in the Jasiri Scale Up Program.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate leadership training components into the skilling program, empowering survivors to develop their leadership skills and self-confidence.
    • Ensure that skilling activities are aligned with the objectives of the Jasiri Scale Up Program and address the specific needs of survivors.

    Program Implementation:

    • Coordinate the implementation of skilling activities, including organizing training sessions, workshops, and practical skills development opportunities.
    • Facilitate leadership training sessions as part of the skilling program, providing survivors with tools and strategies to become agents of change in their communities.
    • Monitor the progress of participants in the skilling program and provide individualized support and guidance as needed.
    • Link the young women survivors of GBV with potential financial service providers where they can access working capital to start and own a business.

    Resource Management:

    • Manage the resources allocated for skilling activities under the Jasiri Scale Up Program, including accounting and logistics planning.
    • Ensure efficient utilization of resources to maximize the impact of the skilling program and achieve program objectives within budgetary constraints.

    Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL):

    • In collaboration with the MEL Department, collect feedback from participants and stakeholders to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement in the skilling activities.
    • Use MEL findings to inform programmatic decisions, adjust implementation strategies, and enhance the overall impact of the skilling program.
    • Organize regular project coordination and review/ reflection meetings with project team for course correction and learning.
    • Ensure timely preparation and submission of quality and insightful project progress reports.

    Partnership Development and Networking:

    • Establish and maintain partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, educational institutions such as TVET’s, and community-based organizations.
    • Collaborate with partner organizations to leverage resources, share best practices, and expand the reach of the skilling program to more survivors.
    • Participate in networking events, conferences, and workshops to raise awareness of the skilling program and promote collaboration with other stakeholders.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, community development, education).
    • At least 5 years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing skilling or vocational training programs, preferably for marginalized or vulnerable populations.
    • Strong understanding of gender-based violence issues and the unique needs of survivors, with experience working in shelter or support services settings.
    • Proven ability to facilitate training sessions and workshops, with a focus on leadership development and empowerment.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with survivors, colleagues, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
    • Fluency in English; proficiency in other languages spoken by the target population is an asset.

    Enterprise Development Manager

    • GROOTS Kenya seeks to recruit an experienced Enterprise Development Manager who will lead and coordinate the implementation of enterprise development activities, focusing on supporting young women entrepreneurs and survivors of GBV.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Strategic Planning and Program Management:

    • Develop and implement enterprise development strategies and activities to support survivors of GBV.
    • Ensure that enterprise development programs are gender-transformative and inclusive, especially for vulnerable young women survivors of GBV.
    • Collaborate with Jasiri consortium partners and key stakeholders to identify and address barriers faced by survivors of GBV in starting, growing and sustaining businesses.

    Business Development and Support:

    • Provide technical assistance and mentorship to young women entrepreneurs to enhance their business acumen and entrepreneurial skills.
    • Facilitate access to business development services, including market research, business planning, financial literacy, and skills training.
    • Identify and promote market opportunities and linkages for women-owned businesses to enhance their market presence and competitiveness.

    Team Leadership and Capacity Strengthening:

    • Provide leadership and guidance to the enterprise development team in effectively implementing business support activities for survivors of GBV.
    • Conduct training and capacity strengthening activities to enhance the entrepreneurial skills of GROOTS Kenya staff and partners.
    • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and transparency in the management of enterprise development initiatives.

    Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL):

    • Liaise with GROOTS Kenya MERL Manager to develop MEL frameworks to track and monitor the performance and impact of enterprise development activities on the socio-economic resilience of survivors of GBV.
    • Utilize MEL findings to identify areas of improvement in enterprise development practices and inform strategic decision-making and implementation.
    • Document and share lessons learned and best practices related to gender-responsive and inclusive enterprise development for young women entrepreneurs.

    Partnership Development and Resource Mobilization:

    • Establish and maintain partnerships with Jasiri Consortium partners, financial institutions, government agencies, and other stakeholders to leverage resources and support for enterprise development initiatives.
    • Advocate for policies and initiatives that promote access to finance and business support services for survivors of GBV at local, national, and regional levels.
    • Mobilize additional resources for enterprise development, focusing on securing funding for initiatives supporting survivors of GBV.

    Qualifications:

    • A bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business administration, entrepreneurship, economics, international development, or a related discipline.
    • At least 5 years of experience in enterprise development, business support, or entrepreneurship, preferably in development programs or organizations focused on gender equality, youth empowerment, or economic empowerment.
    • Proven track record of effectively supporting business development and growth, including experience in business planning, market analysis, and financial management.
    • Strong understanding of gender-transformative inclusive business practices, with the ability to design and implement programs that address the specific needs of marginalized populations, including survivors of GBV.
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to inspire and manage teams towards achieving set goals.
    • Commitment to gender equality and women’s rights, and demonstrable experience working with non-governmental entities on designing and implementing economic empowerment programs.
    • Fluency in English and Swahili.
