    Business Development Manager (Coast)

    Qualifications, Experience, and knowledge:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree Law (LLB) with a current practicing status.
    • Advanced Degree (Highly desirable added advantage): A Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or a specialized Master’s in Marketing, or a professional certification (e.g., CIM, Project Management/PMP).
    • 5+ years of progressive experience in a senior Business Development or Client Relationship Management role.
    • Significant experience within a professional services environment in a law firm.
    • Proven track record of generating new business and managing client relationships. An understanding of the local economy (tourism, port, trade, real estate etc) within the Kenyan Coast region (COAST, Kilifi, Malindi, Kwale, Lamu etc).
    • Experience working with or within organizations with a multi-jurisdictional/regional African presence would be a significant advantage.
    • Ability to develop, implement, and track comprehensive annual BD and Marketing strategies.
    • Exceptional Networking, Interpersonal, and PR skills. Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with key corporate clients and stakeholders.
    • Solid knowledge of digital and non-digital marketing techniques, brand visibility, and communications strategy.
    • An understanding of the attorney-client relationship and the ability to articulate complex legal matters in a commercial context (commercial acumen).
    • Willingness to travel regularly within the Coast region, to the Nairobi headquarters, and to other regional African offices as required.
    • Exceptional Communication: Both written (for proposals/reports) and verbal (for presentations/networking) in English proficiency in Kiswahili (especially vital for the Coast region) is an added advantage.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and influence busy partners and lawyers, encouraging them to participate in BD activities.
    • A proven ability to generate measurable business leads and meet defined revenue targets (ROI focus).
    • Flexibility and resilience to thrive in the fast-paced environment of a top-tier law firm with a regional matrix structure.
    • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and experience with Client Relationship Management (CRM) software.

    Commercial Clerk

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Entity Registration
    • Prepare and file applications for incorporation of companies, registration of business names, partnerships and societies.
    • Handle trademark registration processes, including searches, filing, and follow-up with relevant authorities.
    • Maintain updated knowledge of requirements under the Companies Act, Business Names Act, and Intellectual Property laws.
    • Documentation & Compliance
    • Draft, review, and submit statutory forms and supporting documents to regulatory bodies (e.g., Registrar of Companies, Registrar of Societies, Kenya Industrial Property Institute).
    • Ensure compliance with timelines and statutory obligations for renewals, filings of returns and amendments.
    • Maintain accurate records of registrations, certificates, and correspondence.

    • Client & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Liaise with clients to collect necessary documentation and provide updates on registration progress.
    • Co-ordinate with government offices and regulatory agencies to resolve queries or issues.
    • Provide guidance to clients and the team on procedural requirements and timelines.
    • Administrative Support
    • Maintain a database of registered entities and trademarks for easy retrieval and reporting.
    • Assist in preparing periodic compliance reports for internal and client use.
    • Support senior advocates and associates in commercial practice matters as required.
    • Train the team on changes in the relevant registries and processes.
    • Providing and publishing internally, regular updates and changes in registration procedures and requirements in the various land registries.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field.
    • At least 4 years’ experience in company secretarial work, commercial registration, or legal clerical duties in a busy law firm.
    • Strong knowledge of statutory registration processes in Kenya (Companies Act, Business Names Act, Trademarks Act).
    • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with online registration portals (eCitizen, KIPI systems).
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
    • CS certification is a plus
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Minimum score of Grade C+ in KCSE.
