    Deputy Chief Security Officer

    Job Purpose

    • The Chief Security Officer shall provide an advisory role to management on matters security and coordinate security services and activities within the institution to provide a safe environment. The Chief Security Officer shall report to the Vice Chancellor.

    Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • Manage security investigations within the university to ensure fast resolution of any incidents and thus assure staff and students of security and safety
    • Direct and control all security operations in the university to ensure smooth operations and enhanced security within the university especially during occasions.
    • Coordinate intelligence gathering within the university to keep abreast with the activities of the university and thus advice management accordingly
    • Develop and implement security policies within the university to ensure compliance to security standards
    • Enhance disaster/ emergency preparedness within the university through training and drills
    • Act as a link between the university and government security agents who can provide support to the university's security function
    • Ensure proper supervision of outsourced security service providers to ensure security of the university
    • Ensure availability that security equipment is functional and are properly maintained to keep them ready for use in case of an emergency
    • Ensure maintenance of all security registers and documents in the university

    Job Specifications
    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    • Master's degree in criminology, Forensic Investigation, Security Management or relevant field.

    OR

    • Bachelor's degree in in criminology, Forensic Investigation, Security Management or relevant field.
    • Must have nine (9) years' experience, 3 years of which as Senior Security Officer Grade 11 in the University or equivalent.
    • Computer literate
    • Certificate of Good Conduct

    Legal Officer I

    Job Purpose

    • The Legal Officer shall be responsible for provision of effective and efficient management of the legal department, provision of legal advisory services and ensure effective management of legal and contractual risks within the University. The Legal Officer shall report to the Vice Chancellor.

    Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • Draw and review all contracts, memorandum of understanding and lease agreements concerning the university to ensure the institution is not exposed to any legal risks.
    • Carry out legal audit of the university to ensure that it complies with legal statutes, policies and act of parliament.
    • Review tender documents before award of the tender to ensure compliance with Public Procurement and Disposal act.
    • Receive and review and all court summons to ensure that thee university prepares adequate defense in all cases filed against it.
    • Attend the university disciplinary committee meetings to ensure that the students and/or employees are allowed the right to defend themselves and also ensure that the university complies with the laid down legal procedures.
    • To draft memorandum to the Vice Chancellor and other head of departments to advise them on legal liabilities, omissions or commissions that they may commit in the course of their duties.
    • To review all university policies, rules and regulations to ensure compliance to the law h) To conduct regular training to staff members and student leaders on emerging legal issues that may affect the university
    • To appear in court and defend the university in case where the legal department does not have a conflict of interest.
    • Ensure compliance with ethical standards by all university employees by keeping and monitoring the conflict of interest register and gift register that is kept by various departments k) Assist the University in adopting and propagating appropriate and effective legal strategies to limit the University's legal liability
    • Prepare and manage budget for the legal department
    • Any other duty as assigned from time to time.

    Job Specifications
    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    • Masters in Law (LLM)

    OR

    • Bachelors of Law (LLB)
    • CPS (K) or equivalent
    • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
    • At least six (6) years' experience of which at least three (3) years' experience as Legal Officer II Grade 11 or it's equivalent.

    Senior Legal Assistant

    Job Purpose

    • The Senior Legal Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the legal team by managing evidence, preparing exhibits, and coordinating witness schedules in the event of litigation. This position ensures the smooth organization of cases and effective communication with all parties involved. The Senior Legal Assistant shall report to the Legal Officer

    Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • Organize and schedule departmental meetings to ensure all important agenda are allocated and discussed as appropriate; 
    • Take minutes in meetings to ensure all points are captured as appropriate and recorded as appropriate;
    • Keep cases organized by proper arrangement of files and monitor calendars to mitigate any chances of loss or time wasted from poor plans;
    • Develops cases and maintain contacts with the involved clients and confirm all cases status with the legal officer;
    • Enhance trial proceedings by organization of evidences, preparation of exhibits and schedule witnesses; and Update job knowledge by participation in educational opportunities and study for professional qualifications
    • Assist in drafting and reviewing contracts, MoUs, and lease agreements under the supervision of the Legal Officer.
    • Review tender documents for basic compliance with procurement laws.
    • Draft initial pleadings or responses for the Legal Officer's approval.
    • Provide preliminary legal input, while the Legal Officer gives final guidance. j) Conduct initial reviews of university policies, rules, and regulations. k) Assist in organizing training sessions for staff and student leaders. 1) Maintain and update the conflict of interest register and gift register. m) Any other duty as assigned from time to time.

    Medical Officer

    Job Purpose

    • The Medical Officers role is to safeguard the health and wellbeing of students and staff by providing clinical care, preventive health services, health education, and advising the institution on medical and public health matters. The Medical Officer shall report to the Registrar, Planning and Administration.

    Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • Provide professional advice, guidance and training to the Clinical Officers and other medical staff in the area of specialization within the university;
    • Refer patients for specialized investigation e.g. scans, x-rays for better diagnosis and treatment; 
    • Participate in strategic planning and development of medical department policies to ensure that there is planned development of the department;
    • Participate in preparation of financial year department's budget to ensure the department is running under the financial year budgetary allocation;
    • Participate in preparation of the departmental annual work plan this is to ensure better and organized and timely service delivery;
    • Offer treatment in a specialized field to the staff/dependents and students to ensure a healthy university community;
    • Perform surgeries on the patients to ensure a healthy university community;
    • Refer patients for admissions and follow up of the same to ensure paramount health care is given;
    • Advise the patients and clients on nutrition, family planning and other health measures to ensure a university community;
    • Sensitize and educate the student and staff on lifestyle diseases to have a healthy community while reducing mortality and
    • Participate in community sensitization on diseases and possible disease out breaks and educate them on how to curb the diseases.
    • Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.

    Job Specifications
    Minimum Qualifications and Experience.

    • Bachelors Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MB,ChB) or equivalent from a recognized institution; with a least three (3) years' experience in Clinical/medical post Grade 11
    • Be registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and good standing.
    • Must have a current practicing license.
    • Must have a current professional indemnity insurance cover.
    • Proficiency in relevant computer applications.

    Clinical Instructor

    Job purpose

    • To facilitate experiential learning in the clinical setting by ensuring students are placed and receive learning support in the various facilities. An officer at this level will work under guidance of the Chairperson of the department in the execution of their duties and will contribute toward meeting the key performance indicators and targets of the department and the overall University mission and vision.

    Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • Assessing the students' clinical competence by performing actual clinical duties and medical procedures under supervision;
    • Identifying each student's potential and areas of improvement to adjust the instruction approach as needed;
    • Monitoring students' progress and performance during clinical practice trainings;

    • Participating in departmental committee and internal clinical practice trainings in the classroom, lab, hospital and community health facility auditing;
    • Obtaining and setting of equipment for clinical practicals
    • Collecting and preparing of clinical practice trainings and research materials;
    • Operating and maintaining clinical practice trainings equipment for proper working of equipment; 
    • Participating in maintenance and troubleshooting on clinical practice trainings equipment; m) Coordinating, invigilating and marking practical examination;

    Job Specifications

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor's Science in Nursing,
    • Six (6) years working experience, three (3) of which as Assistant Clinical Instructor Grade 7 or its equivalent.
    • Registered by nursing council of Kenya
    • Valid practicing Nursing License licensed by the nursing Council of Kenya
    • Member of a recognized professional body and in good standing.
    • Proficiency in relevant computer applications.

    Senior Lecturer (Nursing)

    Job Purpose

    • To ensure effective teaching of both undergraduate and post graduate students in the field of specialization, carry out research in relevant areas and participate in community outreach activities all to contribute to the quality education and development of the society and to deliver on the objectives of the university. The Senior Lecturer shall report to the Chairperson of the Department.

    Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • Contribute to development, review and implementation of curriculum for the units and courses taught to ensure quality standard of delivered content
    • Participate in the design of the course outline to ensure that only relevant material is covered c) Aid in development of delivery material for teaching to ensure that knowledge is imparted to students in the most effective way possible
    • Supervise and review students' coursework to confirm delivery of content and test understanding of audience
    • Examine students on course content covered to provide a controlled environment for independent work and to verify the state of the students' learning and process examination results to then accredit qualified students
    • Identify research areas/ topics suitable for study, develop research proposal on the same and apply for funds to solve the problem as outlined in the proposal
    • Publish research findings to disseminate research finding to society as per the objectives of the university to disseminate the outcomes of the research conducted by the university to the general community
    • Source for research grants through proposal writing to attract funds as per the research mandate of the university
    • Mentor, guide and supervise undergraduate, masters and PhD students as they undertake own research projects to gain the relevant qualifications
    • Present research findings at seminars, workshops and symposia as a means to advance knowledge through teaching, scholarly research and scientific investigation
    • Provide consultancy services to clients in need to promote the image of the university and deliver o the mandate of the university to solve problems in society
    • Guide the community on topical issues which require expert opinion to promote the image of the university
    • Represent the community in specialised forums, groups, committees and boards to provide expert opinion
    • Represent the university in local and international to enhance the image of the university

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    • PhD in the relevant field or Equivalent
    • Minimum five (5) years' University teaching/research experience, at least three (3) years must be at lecturer level/research fellow, at both undergraduate and post graduate level. Supervision of at least one (1) PhD or three (3) Masters since the last promotion. Experience in research evidenced by at least four (4) publications in refereed Journals since the last promotion or three (3) publications in refereed Journals and two (2) Chapters in scholarly books since the last promotion

    Lecturer - (Nursing)

    Job Purpose

    • To teach both undergraduate and post graduate students in the field of specialization, carry out research in relevant areas and participate in community outreach activities all to contribute to the quality education and development of the society. The Lecturer shall report to the Chairperson of the Department.

    Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • Write proposals in education to seek funding for research from both international and local parties as well as the government.
    • Conduct research on relevant fields of study with the guidance of professors in the field and publish the findings to contribute to new knowledge in the world.
    • Participate in development of the curriculum for effective guidance on the content delivery that covers up to date developments in the area of study
    • Review the curriculum often to include current knowledge of skills that contribute to quality higher education in the society.
    • Give appropriate lectures to the area of specialization and as assigned by the university, administer and mark the examinations to ensure academic excellence and achievement of university goals
    • Set, mark and supervise examinations in the areas of specialization with compliance to university regulations and standards to ensure fairness in grading of the students.
    • Supervise various project proposals and research done by both undergraduate and post graduate students to ensure compliance to the set regulations and procedures.
    • Guide the community on topical issues which require expert opinion to promote the image of the university
    • Represent the community in specialized forums, groups, committees and boards to provide expert opinion
    • Resolve conflicts within students in class and forward to the dean of students for appropriate action to prevent such conflicts.
    • Offer guidance and counselling to the students when necessary to influence their decisions for instance in specialization to various fields to enable them make informative decisions.

    Job Specifications
    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    • PhD in the relevant field or Equivalent

    OR (in special areas)

    • Master's Degree with minimum three (3) years teaching/research experience at University level.
    • Two (2) publications in refereed Journals or 1 (1) publication in refereed journal and two (2) Chapters in scholarly books since the last promotion
    • Demonstrate advancement in PhD studies through submission of thesis
    • Evidence of continuing research activity
