    Carbon Associate

    About the role

    Associates are the core of Komaza’s systems. The Carbon Associate will be primarily responsible for developing and coordinating complex systems and operational structures (frameworks, processes, policies, standard procedures) and designing our internal carbon knowledge management platform, with guidance from the Carbon Manager and Senior Carbon Manager. 

    The Carbon Associate will also support the carbon certification and sales process by delivering analysis, conducting research, and interacting with multiple internal (Field Operations Management and Employees) and external (consultants, experts, verifiers, buyers) stakeholders. The Associate will use their generalist skill set to help the team solve challenges and reach their objective of generating and selling high-value, innovative carbon credits on an annual basis. In the process, the Carbon Associate is expected to develop an advanced knowledge of carbon project requirements and become a core component of the team when it comes to exploring carbon-focused innovation and expansion opportunities.

    What You'll Do

    • System Design: contribute to the development of robust systems for carbon operations and environmental and social impact monitoring in conjunction with the Data Science team, and ensure continuous compliance of Komaza operations with the carbon standards.
    • Knowledge Management: design our internal carbon knowledge management platform and process to facilitate carbon knowledge creation, retention and sharing, to inform new strategies. 
    • Carbon Certification: help the team to complete each step of the carbon verification and issuance process by delivering analysis, conducting research, and interacting with multiple stakeholders (consultants, experts, verifiers, buyers).
    • Carbon Sales: develop high quality marketing materials and support all aspects of the carbon credit sales process from buyers outreach to deal closing.
    • Carbon Innovation: conduct research, pilot new ideas in the field, gather feedback from farmers and staff. 

    What You'll Bring

    • Strong educational background including top grades from a well regarded university. An advanced degree in a related field (Business, Economics, Environmental Science, Data Science, etc) is advantageous. 
    • At least 3 years of professional work experience, including 2 years minimum in a fast-paced, demanding professional environment of a fast-growth company. 
    • Experience in designing and executing projects that deliver tangible results and a clear track of developing solutions to complex problems with multiple stakeholders. 
    • Highly organized and  strong attention to detail.
    • Prior exposure to Agriculture Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) projects and literacy in carbon project requirements is a strong advantage, but not essential

    Strategic Operations Associate

    About the role

    As an Associate on the team, you will be responsible for leading projects, driving results, collaborating with and advising senior leadership, shaping organizational culture and managing change across the business. The role reports to the Strategic Operations Manager and will be based in Nairobi with occasional travel to our forestry sites in Kilifi, Kwale and Nyandarua.Our aim is to develop our Associates to become future business leaders. As such, you will receive regular coaching from your manager and mentorship from our Senior Leaders.     What you'll do

    • Strategic Projects: You will take on and lead critical cross-functional strategic projects needed in order to achieve Komaza's vision.
    • Performance Improvement: You will partner with Directors and department leads across the business, appraise their systems and identify and drive improvement opportunities. 
    • Fieldwork: You will work closely with our field teams and farmers to design and implement trails, roll out new innovations, capture insights and feedback, through a combination of on-ground and remote support. 
    • Change Management: You will help the business by guiding the change process, including driving collaboration across teams and business units, and implementing and managing change.
    •  Trusted Advisor: You will serve as a sounding board for Senior Leaders and Executives, developing a trusting relationship and providing guidance to help them make key strategic decisions. 

    What you'll bring

    • At least 3 years of work experience in a role requiring strong problem solving skills (management consulting, high-growth start-up, etc.). 
    • A relevant bachelor's degree from a top tier university (Business, Economics, International Development, Engineering).
    • The ability to independently take a complex question, identify the most efficient route to a useful solution, and structure the work into manageable milestones.
    • Analytically minded, using data coupled with sound business judgment to influence business decisions.
    • Advanced proficiency in both Excel and PowerPoint.
