    WASH Assistant (Sanitation and Hygiene)- Kakuma

    The WASH-Sanitation and Hygiene Assistant will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day implementation of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities. This includes supervising community-based sanitation activities, and conducting hygiene promotion to improve the health and living environments of refugees and host populations.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities

    • Sanitation: Supervise the construction and maintenance of household and communal latrines, ensuring compliance with PWJ and UNHCR technical standards.
    • Hygiene Promotion: Conduct community outreach sessions on handwashing, safe water storage, and waste management to prevent waterborne diseases.
    • Monitoring & Reporting: Assist in water quality testing (residual chlorine monitoring) and collect field data for monthly progress reports.
    • Community Engagement: Work closely with WASH Committees and community leaders to ensure project ownership and sustainability.
    • Emergency Response: Support rapid WASH assessments and distribution of hygiene kits
      during disease outbreaks or influxes of new arrivals.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Education: Degree in Public Health, or a related field.
    • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in WASH interventions, preferably in an NGO set up. Experience in a refugee camp setting (Kakuma or Dadaab) will be an added advantage.
    • Technical Skills: Proficiency in water quality testing, basic plumbing, or construction supervision of sanitation facilities is added advantage
    • Soft Skills: Ability to work under pressure in hardship environments and strong interpersonal skills for community mobilization.

    WASH Engineer (2 Positions)

    The WASH Engineer will lead, in consultation with the Program Engineer, the technical design, implementation, and management of water supply systems within the designated area of operation. Reporting to the Program Engineer, the successful candidate will provide technical oversight of WASH infrastructure projects and supervise a team of Assistant Engineers and Technicians. The role will ensure that all water infrastructure projects are implemented on time, within budget, and in accordance with established engineering standards and quality requirements.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities

    • Technical Design & Planning: Lead the engineering design of complex water systems, including hydraulic modeling, solar-hybrid pumping systems, and large-scale distribution networks.
    • Project Management: Oversee the full project cycle of water infrastructure construction and rehabilitation, ensuring strictly adhered-to timelines and quality benchmarks.
    • Budgetary Oversight: Manage the WASH budget for water activities, including the development of Bills of Quantities (BoQs), technical specifications, and procurement plans.
    • Leadership: Directly supervise Assistant WASH Engineers and technical field teams, providing mentorship and ensuring optimal performance across the water department.
    • Contractor Management: Supervise external contractors and service providers, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and safety standards.
    • Coordination & Representation: Represent PWJ in WASH sector coordination meetings with UNHCR, the Ministry of Water, and other implementing partners.
    • Innovation: Lead the transition toward sustainable green energy solutions (solarization) for water production and implement smart metering/monitoring technologies.
    • Reporting: Prepare high-quality technical reports for donors (UNHCR, OCHA, etc.) detailing production metrics, infrastructure progress, and challenges.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
    • Professional Status: Must be registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) at least as a Graduate Engineer and must be in good standing.
    • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in water engineering, with at least 3 years in an NGO set up. A supervisory role within a humanitarian or complex development context will be an added advantage.
    • Technical Skills: Expert proficiency in AutoCAD, EPANET, or WaterGEMS; deep technical knowledge of borehole drilling, solar pumping technology, and water treatment.
    • Soft Skills: Proven leadership and project management skills; ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and work in hardship duty stations

    Procurement Assistant

    Key Roles and Responsibilities

    Administrative Responsibilities:

    • Support procurement activities within the Nairobi office and assist field teams in Kakuma and Dadaab with administrative tasks.
    • Maintain a comprehensive and organized filing system for all supply chain department documents.
    • Deputize the Senior Procurement Officer in their absence to ensure continuity of supply chain and program record management.

    Supply Chain Activities:

    • Ensure all supply chain activities comply with PWJ procurement and finance policies.
    • Support procurement functions for all projects under the guidance of the Senior Procurement Officer.
    • Familiarize yourself with and adhere to the PWJ Procurement Manual.
    • Prepare and submit bi-weekly procurement reports to the Senior Procurement Officer, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

    Procurement Responsibilities:

    • Receive and review purchase requests from program staff and field operations for correctness.
    • Ensure all procurements comply with PWJ policies and procedures, meet quality standards, are fairly priced, and are delivered on time.
    • Follow up with suppliers on approved purchase orders to meet lead times.
    • Monitor and update the purchase request tracker regularly.
    • Ensure all purchases are properly authorized in line with PWJ finance and supply chain procedures.
    • Maintain up-to-date files for price guides, catalogs, and technical product information for budgeting and ordering purposes.
    • Assist the Senior Procurement Officer in reviewing procurement documents before approval, keeping proper records, and maintaining inventory of used purchase orders.
    • Coordinate closely with the procurement and supply chain teams in Dadaab and Kakuma to ensure timely delivery of program supplies from Nairobi.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain management with a minimum of 3 years’ hands on practical experience in Procurement.
    • Member of either CIPS (Chartered institute of Procurement and Supplies or KISM Kenya Institute of management.
    • Proven practical experience with INGO/NGO in Kenya
    • Familiarity with ERP systems
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Computer literate (word processors, spreadsheet, database, etc.)
    • Thorough method of working with ability to work under pressure to pursue multiple tasks simultaneously to successful conclusions;
    • Committed team player;
    • Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
