    Senior Design Engineer

    Job Description

    What You'll Make Happen:

    • Provide subject matter expert (SME) support and expertise to the Project Managers, Project Engineers and procurement teams. 
    • Review client expectations and requirements before handing over to the design team and ensure it is communicated clearly to the design team.
    • Review and provide input to detailed designs submitted both internally and externally to ensure  it meets minimum required standards as well as efficient and cost-effective constructability.
    • Develop electrical power system designs for large and relatively larger projects and associated bill of quantities and technical specifications.
    • Develop solar concept designs (including layout, SLDs, and BoM) as and when required by the project development team.
    • Provide input into detailed design both internal and external to ensure efficient and cost-effective constructability.
    • Support preparation of technical specification and inputs during equipment and contractors tendering and equipment selection stage.
    • Support in preparation of  technical site survey requirements.
    • Develop generation and distribution system capacity and equipment operating models using selected simulation and analysis tools
    • Inspect and approve relevant and reusable technical documents and design templates and models.
    • Identify initiatives to improve designs and cut unnecessary costs
    • Support business development and nurture relationships with client
    • Support technical investigations and fault finding in PowerGen’s O&M areas to identify root causes to help restoration of the network quickly and prevent recurrence of the issue.
    • Train, upskill and recommend learning opportunities to other engineers to ensure team growth and sustainability.

    You Already Have:

    • Bachelors(BSc./BTech/BEng Engineering (Electrical,Mechanical or structural)
    • Related Masters degree is additional credit
    • 5+ years’ relevant experience
    • Certification and licenses
      • EPRA T3 or equivalent
      • EBK Graduate engineer or equivalent
      • EBK Professional or equivalent, preferred
    • Advanced technical skillset

    HSSE Manager

    Job Description

    Health and safety is of critical importance in achieving PowerGen’s mission to Transform Lives Through Smarter Power. As PowerGen’s HSSE Manager, you will be responsible for building a safety-first culture that empowers our team and drives adoption of a safety-first mentality. You will establish, oversee and ensure compliance of HSE Management across the Company.  As HSE Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of our team, customers, investors, government bodies, contractors and suppliers visiting any of the Company’s sites. The Company will look to you to uphold a culture of safety across the organization.

    What You'll Make Happen:

    • First and foremost, you will build a safety-first culture that will drive ownership and accountability of safety across the organization. 
    • Develop and implement HSSE Management system across the organization, including continuous monitoring, ensuring compliance with Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
    • Conduct regular HSSE training for all employees and customers in all relevant areas (public safety, safety laws, regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, use of safety equipment, etc).
    • Survey worksites to ensure HSSE compliance with Company policies, safety standards and government requirements
    • Investigate and properly document construction accidents, near-miss incidents, and occupational injuries to determine causes, install preventative measures and manage return-to-work activities
    • Recommend corrective action and systems to ensure quick response to all incidents and accidents
    • Implement risk assessment and controls, including regular reporting to Executive Team and Board on compliance and risks

    Qualifications

    What You Already Have:

    • OSHA certification, or equivalent 
    • 5+ year’s experience in a managerial capacity within Health, Safety, Sustainability & Environment role
    • Health and Safety Membership of relevant professional and industry associations
    • Good knowledge of relevant ISO and international HSE standards such as  Occupational health and safety Management systems ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
    • Knowledge of the HSE regulatory requirements and good utility industry practices.
    • Strong project management skills to ensure adoption of HSE program
    • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal - across all levels 
    • Energy utility, projects or Construction industry experience is desirable.

    Commercial Development Manager

    Job Description

    The Commercial Development Manager will develop, structure, and fundraise for new projects to transform the African power sector. This work will include building detailed financial models, (local currency) debt raising, complex commercial and legal structuring, government and donor engagement, and bringing projects through the development cycle (incl. approval gates). Once a project is in the implementation stage, the Commercial Development Manager will support the implementation and asset management teams where necessary.

    What You'll Make Happen:

    • Develop, structure, and fundraise for new business opportunities in our countries of operations (mostly Sierra Leone and DRC)
    • Complex and detailed analysis of new business opportunities, incl. a deep understanding of project returns and leverage, financial modeling, legal structuring, and continuous interactions with the customer and technical teams to optimize for project returns.
    • Promote the PowerGen solution to prospective customers, partners and sponsors through a combination of proactive business development, relationship building, thought leadership, networking, conference attendance, etc. 
    • Follow the Development Roadmap, incl. the required approval gates, documentation, and hand-overs.
    •  Work with colleagues to continuously improve our commercial and technical solutions (incl. LCOE, alternative generation sources, new type of grid projects, etc.), and to ensure a smooth transition into operations
    • Frequent travel
    • A detailed financial model assignment will be part of the recruitment process.

    Qualifications

    What You Already Have:

    • Passionate about transforming the power sector on the continent and providing clean, reliable and affordable power to millions of people
    • Strong in fundraising / project finance, complex solution sales, and financial and legal structuring with an ability to perform detailed analysis and translate it into financial models and pitch decks 
    • Ability to build relationships with investors, donors, governments, and power utilities and a clear understanding of what a sales process would entail with such counterparts
    • Driven and collaborative self-starter with a high-level of grit and demonstrated experience in working effectively across multi-cultural team

    Preferred:

    • French language a strong plus
    • Basic understanding of technical issues within the power sector
