    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in environmental sciences/management, public policy, business administration, or a related field.
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
    • Have graduated with a university degree.
    • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

    Work Experience

    • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

    Languages

    Nature for Health Partnership Communications Design Expert

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Biodiversity and Land Branch, Doreen Robinson, with direct oversight by the N4H lead in the Biodiversity, People and Landscapes Unit, the consultant will:
    • Create N4H institutional diagrams including revised Theory of Change, governance structure, partnership framework, communications framework and other core processes.
    • Develop final corporate branding guidelines.
    • Layout the core N4H Terms of Reference and Operations Manual documents with a professional look, in line with the N4H brand and in order to be signed off by the Steering Committee.
    • Produce a handover report.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • An advanced university degree (MSc level or higher) in communications, natural, social or behavioural science is required.
    • A first level degree with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of Advanced degree.
    • A minimum of 5 years of postgraduate work experience in communications in diverse multi-stakeholder environments is required.
    • Strong understanding of Indesign, Powerpoint, Illustrator and other relevant design tools, and experience developing visual identities / brands for different organizations and initiatives is required.
    • Experience in layout and publication design is required. Experience in partnership and sustainable development design work is desirable.

    Biodiversity and Human Wellbeing Consultant

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment". Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This consultancy post is located in the Biodiversity, People and Landscapes Unit in the Biodiversity and Land Branch, within the Ecosystem Division.
    • The Biodiversity, People and Landscapes Unit supports work on Wildlife Economy, Human-Wildlife Co- existence, One Health, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, Sustainable Forest Management, The Global Peatlands Initiative, Mountain Landscapes, Nature-based Solutions, and Great Apes.
    • This specific position will assist in the development and delivery of the UNEP’s implementation of UNEA Resolution 5/5 on Nature-based Solutions for Sustainable Development under the BPL, and the scoping and implementation phases of the Transformation and Mainstreaming of Nature Unit’s Nature 4 Health Multi-Partner Trust Fund.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A postgraduate degree (Master's or equivalent) in environmental management, development or a related area is required.
    • A first level degree with additional two years of qualifying experience maybe accepted in lieu of postgraduate degree
    • A minimum of 2 years of work experience in international environment and development is required.
    • Experience in advocacy communications and outreach for non-profit or international organizations is required.
    • Experience in working with vulnerable groups is an advantage.
    • Experience in working in international organizations such as the UN is an advantage.

    Circular Economy Indicators and Policy Consultant

    Specific tasks and responsibilities
    Under the direct guidance of the Head of the SDGs and Environment Statistics Unit of the Capacity Development and Innovation Branch of the Early Warning and Assessment Division, UNEP., the consultant will:

    • Develop the database and compile data and their metadata, where available, related to the core indicators set at national, regional and global levels
    • Prepare research on country(ies) case study(ies) to be included in the report
    • Prepare the report outline in consultation with UNEP
    • Prepare analysis sections of the report based on the final report outline
    • Attend to the comments submitted by reviewers and finalize the report.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A Master’s degree in Environmental Science is a required
    • A doctoral degree is desirable.
    • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in statistics and data collection is required.
    • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in policy development is required.
    • Proven expertise and experience in English report writing is required.
    • Proven expertise and experience in working on sustainable consumption and production for sustainable development is desirable.
    • Experience in the UN system and in a government/intergovernmental setting is desirable.

    Biodiversity Planning Consultant

    Responsibilities:
    Specific tasks and responsibilities include:

    • Prepare a checklist of key elements, thematic and cross-cutting issues that should be a part of the updated NBSAPs.
    • Draft a guide on undertaking rapid assessments of existing National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) with a view to identify gaps and prepare for updating the NBSAPs in line with priorities and targets under the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
    • Draft Guidance document on how to ensure whole of society approach in implementing the new NBSAPs and GBF
    • Prepare a checklist of key policies related to elements of GBF, also focusing on new elements of the GBF, to help countries prepare for policy coherence related actions in the new NBSAPs.
    • Prepare briefs on UN agencies contributions to GBF, in consultation with relevant agencies and the Environment Management Group (EMG).
    • Lead the organization of one training or webinar on each on the following issues: Undertaking rapid assessments of NBSAP needs in light of GBF; Operationalizing the whole of society approach and whole of government approaches in NBSAP development and implementation; understanding new elements of the GBF and related targets (such as consumption, trade and the related); strengthening role of youth and Indigenous People and Local Communities in NBSAP revision and implementation.
    • Liaise with UNEP divisions, MEAs Collaboration Unit, UNDP, Secretariat to Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and other partners in drafting the finalizing the documents and activities listed above.
    • Prepare a final report combining actions and deliverables and lessons learnt during the period of consultancy.
    • Provide substantial inputs to develop communication material related to the actions above.
    • Prepare presentations, briefs and related outreach material in support of the above activities.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental sciences, social sciences or environmental law or related field is required.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in supporting CBD implementation is required.
    • Experience in supporting development and implementation of national action plans on environment and biodiversity management is required.
    • Familiarity of CBD and its mandates, national action plans/implementation plans preparation/review/implementation will be needed knowledge/skill for this assignment.

    Languages

    • Fluency in written, oral skills in English is required. Additional language proficiency will be an added asset.

    Nature for Health Website Developer

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Biodiversity and Land Branch, with direct oversight by the N4H lead in the Biodiversity, People and Landscapes Unit, the consultant will:

    Maintain, grow and add content to the dedicated website for the Nature for Health initiative. Steps to include:

    • Create a new page on the website laying out the governance structure of the N4H consortium
    • Revise the structure of the resources library and create a functional repository for a growing number of publications, reports and other relevant documents.
    • Establish a blog section of the website to store N4H articles.
    • Conduct maintenance of the website to keep it up-to-date and visually clean.
    • Report to the secretariat communications focal point on website/visitor stats and analytics.
    • Liaise with graphic designer to create high-quality visual content for the website.
    • Revise visual details on the website, in line with decisions taken by the consortium.
    • Create new spaces and pages on the website as the initiative moves into the implementation phase.
    • Migrate the website from nature4health.net to nature4health.org and set up a redirect.
    • Work with UNEP comms division to ensure that the website complies with necessary standards and guidelines to support the formal approval of N4H’s independent website
    • Source appropriate images with relevant credits.
    • Maintain the website with any necessary revamp and optimization.
    • Provide any outputs in an accessible form that can be adapted by the secretariat, including training on use of the CMS for updates.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Required education qualifications:
    • A first university degree in communications, natural, social or behavioural science is required.
    • In-depth knowledge of the chosen content management system, to manipulate the system to the full potential to provide the best website possible.
    • Ability to coordinate the process from web ideas through to designing both the visual side and the information architecture.
    • Photo editing and design skills to enhance/edit the images in web ready format
