    Intern - Programme Support

    Under the overall supervision of the Gender Programme Management Officer and the day-to-day supervision of the Gender Associate Officer the intern will be responsible for the following:

    • Support the Quality Assurance Section on the implementation of UN Disability Inclusion Strategy and SDGs 1 and 10 as well as functioning of CAG and PRC, organization of capacity strengthening workshops, youth-related activities and other QA's activities.
    • Carry out research and summarize key developments and emerging trends related to gender and/or safeguards and the environment.
    • Participate in group discussions and contribute insights, ideas and feedback on key topics and emerging issues in this field, including mainstreaming of gender and safeguards (social and environmental).
    • Provide support to the Quality Assurance Section of the Policy and Programme Division and assist with planning and coordinating meetings and joint events, with partners including various relevant UN Observances.
    • Analyzes and monitors the use and uptake of gender, safeguards and Quality Assurance information on the UNEP Gender/Safeguards and Quality Assurance weCollaborate page.
    • Draft impact stories and messages for UNEP digital platforms and for other communications opportunities.
    • Support with monitoring and analysis of information uploaded on Open Data Portal and prepare draft reports on the findings.
    • Support with the community of practice and capacity strengthening workshops and assessment (gender and disability inclusion). Contribute to preparations for presentations, analysis and visualization of the findings, etc.
    • Support the preparation of various presentations, using Power Point and/or Canva and other relevant software.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A university degree in Gender Studies, Human Rights, Sociology, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, or related field with course work in areas such as gender studies, environmental and social impact assessment, impact measurement labour issues, community health and safety, Indigenous rights / Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples, disability rights, inclusion, minority studies, and poverty analysis Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
    • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
    • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work.experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

    Stakeholder Engagement Support

    Under the overall guidance of the Executive Secretary and the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the Individual Contractor will be responsible for the following duties:

    • Observer Registrations and Participation Support
    • Review registrations from Observer organizations to participate in INC sessions according to established criteria.
    • Prepare records and summaries of applications for internal review.
    • Support the approval process for Observer participation, including documentation and communication to the participants.
    • Support the preparation of the List of Participants for INC sessions and other events.
    • Travel Support Administration
    • Assist in reviewing and documenting requests for travel support from Observer organizations.
    • Prepare supporting materials for internal review and approvals.
    • Track and maintain records of approved travel support.
    • Meeting and Event Support
    • Prepare and disseminate logistical and organizational information regarding Observers’ participation in INC session.
    • In-session logistical support to facilitate Observer’s participation.
    • Assist in organizing webinars, online meetings, and briefings for Observers.
    • Support Secretariat leadership during meetings with Observer organizations, including taking notes and tracking follow-up actions.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in international relations, political science, environmental studies, public administration, social sciences, or a related field is required.
    • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in administrative, programme, or stakeholder support functions, preferably within an international organization, UN entity, government institution, NGO, or civil society organization is required.
    • Experience supporting meetings, consultations, or multistakeholder processes is required. Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear summaries, correspondence and briefing materials under supervision is required.
    • Ability to organize information, maintain records and manage multiple tasks within established procedures and timelines. Demonstrated professionalism, discretion and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse stakeholders. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
