    Finance Officer

    Key Responsibilities

    Revenue, Invoicing & Accounts Receivable (Subscription-Based)

    • Manage end-to-end invoicing for schools and partners, ensuring accurate subscription billing and revenue recognition in line with IFRS 15.
    • Validate billing completeness across all active school contracts, renewals, upgrades, and add-on services.
    • Maintain accurate customer ledgers and proactively resolve billing, pricing, or contract-related disputes in collaboration with Sales and Customer Success teams.
    • Monitor collections, follow up on overdue accounts, and support customer payment plans where applicable.
    • Prepare monthly accounts receivable schedules, aging reports, deferred revenue analyses, and collection summaries.
    • Support revenue assurance reviews, adjustments, and system validations with senior finance and FP&A teams.

    Accounts Payable, Expenses & Accruals

    • Process supplier invoices, staff reimbursements, and petty cash transactions with complete and compliant supporting documentation.
    • Maintain accurate vendor master data and validate supplier contracts and approvals.
    • Execute timely payments to suppliers, staff, and service providers across KSH, UGX, TZS, and USD.
    • Reconcile supplier statements monthly and resolve discrepancies promptly.
    • Post monthly accruals for recurring costs, cloud services, software subscriptions, and departmental expenses.
    • Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register, including IT equipment and capitalized software where applicable.

    Banking, Reconciliations & Financial Reporting

    • Perform timely multi-currency bank reconciliations for all ZERAKI entities and accounts.
    • Ensure completeness and accuracy of Accounts Receivable, Account Payable, and bank reconciliations on a monthly basis.
    • Prepare monthly finance schedules including receivables, payables, accruals, deferred revenue, and cash flow summaries.
    • Support preparation of payment forecasts and short-term cash requirement schedules.

    Statutory Compliance & Audit Support​​​​​​​

    • Prepare and submit statutory filings accurately and on time for each jurisdiction, including VAT, PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, and other applicable taxes.
    • Support internal and external audits by preparing AR, AP, revenue, deferred revenue, and bank reconciliation schedules with full audit trails.
    • Ensure compliance with internal revenue assurance controls, approval matrices, and financial policies.

    Controls, Systems & Process Improvement

    • Enforce segregation of duties and adherence to the approved payment and approval matrix.
    • Prevent duplicate, unauthorized, or non-compliant payments through strong review and control procedures.
    • Drive at least one automation or process improvement initiative annually, such as:
    • Integration between billing platforms and accounting systems
    • Automation of school invoicing and receipt allocation
    • Electronic invoice approval and payment workflows
    • Actively collaborate with Sales, Customer Success, FP&A, Engineering, and Financial Control teams to resolve operational finance issues.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field.
    • CPA (finalist) or equivalent professional qualification.
    • 3+ years’ experience in a finance, accounting, or audit role, preferably in SaaS, edtech, or multi-entity environments.
    • Strong working knowledge of IFRS (especially IFRS 15).
    • Experience with subscription billing, deferred revenue, and multi-currency accounting.
    • Proficiency in accounting systems, ERPs, and Excel/Google Sheets.
    • Strong attention to detail, ownership mindset, and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

    Product Manager - Zeraki Learning

    Responsibilities

    Outcome Orientation

    • Purpose: Improve learning effectiveness, engagement, and teacher enablement through evidence-driven product decisions.

    Responsibilities

    • Own Zeraki Learning’s core outcomes and KPIs, including:
    • student engagement and completion rates
    • quiz / practice participation and mastery signals
    • teacher adoption of assignments and assessments reduction in learning-related support tickets
    • Deeply understand how teachers plan lessons, assign work, and assess progress in real classroom contexts.
    • Maintain an evidence-driven Opportunity Backlog grounded in learning and classroom outcomes.
    • Frame problems in terms of learning impact before proposing solutions.
    • Track feature usage and learning signals; share insights in weekly or bi-weekly product syncs.
    • Validate learning pain points through teacher interviews, classroom observation, student feedback, and usage data before committing engineering effort.

    Execution Ownership & Delivery

    • Purpose: Deliver clear, reliable, and pedagogically sound learning experiences that work in low-bandwidth, mobile-first environments.

    Responsibilities

    • Write clear PRDs for engineering with:
    • learning problem statements
    • target personas (student, teacher, parent)
    • acceptance criteria tied tlearning outcomes
    • edge cases (connectivity, device sharing, offline behavior)
    • analytics and success metrics
    • Maintain a healthy, prioritized backlog for Zeraki Learning.
    • Work closely with engineers tclarify learning flows, constraints, and trade-offs.
    • Ensure features meet Definition of Ready and Definition of Done before release.
    • Conduct hands-on UAT from a learner and teacher perspective.
    • Track bugs and regressions that affect learning continuity or clarity.
    • Run structured rollouts (release notes, mini-guides, internal demos for CX and BD).

    Instructional Design & Learning Quality

    • Purpose: Ensure Zeraki Learning experiences are instructionally sound, not just usable.

    Responsibilities

    • Apply instructional design principles (e.g. scaffolding, practice, feedback, mastery) when shaping product decisions.

    Evaluate learning flows for:

    • clarity of objectives
    • appropriate sequencing
    • quality of feedback and reinforcement
    • Partner with Design tensure learning interactions are cognitively appropriate and simple.
    • Ensure learning tools support teachers’ instructional intent, not replace it.
    • Balance curriculum alignment with product scalability and usability.

    Business & Commercialization

    • Purpose: Support retention, adoption, and long-term value of Zeraki Learning as part of the broader Zeraki platform.

    Responsibilities

    Understand how Zeraki Learning contributes to:

    • product stickiness and retention
    • cross-sell and upsell intother Zeraki products
    • parent and student engagement value
    • Track how learning engagement correlates with renewal and usage signals.
    • Work with CX tidentify learning-related churn risks or confusion points.
    • Identify small, high-leverage improvements that increase sustained usage.
    • Communicate learning product performance clearly tproduct leadership.

    Collaboration

    • Purpose: Partner effectively with Design, Engineering, CX, Content, and other product teams tdeliver high-quality learning experiences.

    Responsibilities

    • Build strong working relationships with:
    • Product Designers
    • Engineers
    • CX and Support teams
    • Hold regular discovery sessions with teachers and students.
    • Work with designers tcreate clear, simple learning interfaces.
    • Communicate roadmap changes and rollout updates clearly in Teams.
    • Support PM II / Product Leadership in broader learning strategy alignment.
    • Document learning workflows and decisions for shared understanding.
    • Escalate blockers early and create clarity when trade-offs arise.

    Requirements

    Must-Have

    • 1–3 years’ experience in product management, instructional design, education technology, or learning experience design.
    • Strong understanding of how people learn and how teachers teach.
    • Ability ttranslate pedagogical needs intclear product requirements.
    • Experience running structured discovery with users.
    • Strong documentation and communication skills.
    • Comfort working with product data and usage metrics.
    • Structured, detail-oriented, and reliable in execution.
