    Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences

    Job Ref: ANU/SHSS/01/12/22

    Qualifications and Experience

    • PhD. in any of the following areas; Education, Counseling Psychology, Governance Peace and Security or Mass Communication
    • Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience, with at least three (3) years in a managerial position
    • A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
    • National, Regional, and international recognition for research.
    • Supervised at least three (3) post-graduate students to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent.
    • Attracted research funds as a Lecturer/Research Fellow.
    • Relevant professional qualification
    • Member of a relevant professional body
    • Must have attained minimum of Senior Lecturer

    General Expectations:

    • Demonstrated Teaching skills as evidenced by student evaluation and peer reviews.
    • Demonstrated evidence of success in some major non-teaching responsibilities at the University
      or other reputable organization will be an added advantage.
    • Conversant with online teaching and pedagogy.

    Key duties and responsibilities:

    • Manage the academic programs in the school and enforce quality assurance as required by Senate, under various rules and regulations, to ensure that acceptable standards of teaching and research are maintained across the school
    • Develop and monitor implementation of the school’s strategies, policies, procedures and standards.
      Articulate University policy and procedures to staff in the school and ensure that school policies are
      consistent with those of the University
    • Manage teaching delivery in the school
    • Manage research and publishing of findings in the school
    • Manage the development of curriculum in the school
    • Manage timetabling, course scheduling and allocation of faculty in the school. Manage approval of faculty workload plans and ensure each department in the school has necessary resources
    • Convene and moderate school meetings. Collate agenda items and ensure detailed minutes are provided.
    • Represent the school in the Institute/ Centre/ Board/ Senate and any other bodies/ committees of the University as required in the statutes
    • Manage the examination process in the school
    • Teach, and conduct research within a specialist subject area
    • Manage the school’s graduation list preparation
    • Manage professional growth and development of staff in the department. Make recommendations with respect to discipline, probation, advancement and promotion of academic staff within the school
    • Support marketing and community outreach efforts and activities in the University. Promote
      collaboration and partnerships efforts, working closely with strategic partnerships and external
      relations
    • Develop a plan, process and tool for evaluating course offering for continuous improvements
    • Develop and monitor the school annual plan and budget
    • Mentor, coach and supervise subordinate staff
    • Provide technical advice and reports to management when required

    E-Learning Instructional Specialist

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for designing, developing, executing, testing, and assessing instructional design projects and/or technologies
    • Orient and train students to online learning
    • Support faculty in all stages of instructional design processes
    • Support faculty on digital technologies relevant for interactive and engaging online experiences.
    • Support faculty in content design, development, delivery, and evaluation of online courses.
    • Coordinate with faculty in assembling effective online content.
    • Ensure adherence to a design standard of an instructional design model that leverages on current and emerging technologies, and sound pedagogical designs and strategies.
    • Present and make recommendations regarding course design, technology, and instruction delivery options
    • Review courses against educational standards and quality before publishing for student access
    • Coordinate communication to faculty, students, or other users’ availability of, or changes to online
      and e-learning courses or materials, programs, services, or applications
    • Support the development of new online courses
    • Track and participate in workflow of the instructional design process. To ensure its success
      execution
    • Advice and initiate internal and external support providers on instructional design for a continuous
      and sustained faculty and student support.
    • Engage in professional development and capacity building opportunities.
    • Any other duty as assigned.

    Academic and Professional Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in instructional design, education technology, or other related field that are aligned with the tasks of this position will be an added advantage.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Education or Education Technology or in a relevant field
    • Demonstrated skills and certification on web technologies, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and eLearning authoring tools.
    • Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience as instructional designer, learning designer or course developer in higher education coupled with;
    • Experience in supporting faculty and staff in instruction design or content design, development, delivery, and assessment at higher education levels.

    Personal attributes and competencies:

    • Strong practical and technical abilities in a variety of online learning technologies including but not limited to devices, interactive learning software, learning management soft
    • Knowledge and skills of teaching and learning/ pedagogy
    • Ability to troubleshoot problems, creative, and good in problem solving
    • Demonstrate knowledge on web technologies, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and a good knowledge of eLearning authoring tools.

    Adjunct Faculty, Kiswahili

    Lecturer:

    • At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level as a lecturer or five (5) years
      research/industry experience with a track record of securing research funds.
    • A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed scholarly journals.

    • Develop learning assessment plans.

    • Participate in departmental research and conduct research in specialist areas, publishingfindings in
      professional journals, books, or electronic media and participate in grant writing and collaborations.
    • Advising students on academic, career, and any other related issues when required.
    • Attending conferences, workshops and seminars, industrial linkages, and market outreach visits or related when required.
    • Participate in departmental administrative and field operations and programs.
