Position: Community Interviewer, KMR 11 (1 position) Reporting to: Study Coordinator Location: Kisumu
Job Description:
The Community Interviewer will report directly to the Study Coordinator and will be responsible for collecting timely and accurate data in their assigned households and health care facilities.
Essential Requirements:
- O-level or Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education CITI Certificate in Human Subjects ProtectionOne (1) year working experience doing community work
- Experience with both qualitative and quantitative data collections
- Basic computer skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
Desirable qualities:
- Ability to speak and write in Luo language.
- Flexible and willing to work extra hours including weekends and public holidays
- Work under minimal supervision and be a team player.Must be honest, truthful and able to handle challenging situations in the field.
Specific Tasks and responsibilities:

- Participant’s mobilization at both the community and healthcare facilities Consenting and recruiting eligible participants into the study. Conducting weekly follow ups Data entry and filing of source documents
- Keep clean and comprehensive records of study visits and outcomes

Terms of Employment: One (1) year non-renewable contract.
Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on education levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales.

Study Description
The KEN SHE Study is a prospective, blinded randomized study that will test the efficacy of single- dose bivalent and nonavalent HPV vaccination as a catch-up strategy.
KMR /6 (K) Vacancy No. FN-007-02-2020
Reports to: Study Coordinator
Duration: 1 Year Renewable Contract as per KEMRI Scheme of Service. The first 3 months is a probation period
Duties and Responsibilities
- Overseeing daily data activities
- Oversee and mentor data clerks’ duties
- Conduct training of all data clerks and relevant staff on data specific items, study protocol, SOPs and documents, equipment use
- Creating and maintaining all study database
- Updating and overseeing databases updates
- Generating study summaries and reports as required
- Arranging screening, enrolment and follow up files for daily schedules
- Performing QA/QC of Case report forms (CRFs) and name chart, ensures competency at all QC levels
- Printing CRFs and arranging them in study binders as needed.
- Communicates with CC on behalf of data in relation to QC, supplies, CRFs updates and changes in CRFs.
- Ensures Label printing and delivery to the clinic team
- Spear heads analysis and resolution of DFNet queries
- Organizes eligibility meetings, tracks the screen/enrollment participant status records and provides daily reports in liaison with study Doctor. Develops all data related SOPs
- Assist staff in data analysis e.g. abstract writing
- Ensures data printers and data fax machines are maintained and stored well. Maintain data supplies inventory Manage study data
- Tracking of all study documents, data and storage
- Ensures archival procedures of all study data, hard and soft is secured and stored well Ensures confidentiality and safe storage of all participant identifying materials like link logs are kept confidentially.
- Gives QA/QC monthly and weekly reports Provide weekly site data reports
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of an Undergraduate Degree in Statistics/ Applied Statistics/Biostatistics/Computer science
- Conversant with statistical packages i.e Stata, SPSS , R, SAS.
- Conversant with data management databases i.e MS access, Excel SQL or Visual basics.
- Basic IT skills i.e. software installations, printer installations and trouble shootings.
- Having experience with data fax transmission machine is an added advantage.
- At least two (2) years data management and/or related work experience in a clinical research setting.
- Working knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, Clinical research, Clinical trial process and related regulatory requirements and terminology.
- Working knowledge of Clinical database applications such as EDC and CTMS and data management data bases such as MS access, Excel SQL or Visual basics
Desirable Qualities
- Leadership skills to promote creativity and innovation.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, good organizational, interpersonal, and team skills.
- Applicable knowledge working with other clinical databases eg SAS, etc .
- Experience with working on Phase I- IV study trials within a clinical set up.

Study Description
A Pilot evaluation of pharmacy-based pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) delivery targeting adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) at risk for HIV in Kisumu Kenya. Accessing products from retail pharmacies. This implementation project is a collaboration between Research Care and Training Program RCTP-KEMRI and University of Washington.

Duration: Four months
Duties and Responsibilities
The Study Nurse will be responsible for delivering PrEP to AGYW in a pharmacy
- Counsel AGYW accessing pharmacy
- Administer questionnaires.
- Data entry into the tablet.
- Respond to data query response, attend trainings, weekly reporting on this and other related studies.
- Data quality assurance
- Carry out other duties as may be assigned pertaining to the project.
- Closely work with pharmacy staff members and nearby health facility to ensure the success of the project
Required Qualifications
- Experienced, practicing registered nurse with the Nursing officers council of Kenya with minimum of a diploma in nursing - Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN)
- Two years of working experience as a Nurse
- Computer literate
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills
- Must be able to work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability, and integrity
Other Required Skills
- Demonstrated track record working with AGYW
- Experience in research will be an added advantage

Duties and Responsibilities
Job Summary: The incumbent will be in charge of Recruitment and Retention of study subjects, Data management (data collection, assessing accuracy of data, data quality assurance, and reconciliation of erroneous data), coordinate and communicate with study staff (Principle Investigators, Co-Investigators, and FACES staff), assist investigators in management and administration of grant funds
Duties and Responsibilities
- Make initial contacts with potential study subjects and, introducing the study to them attain an in depth understanding of the AGYWs perceptions to assist in the successful implementation Conduct qualitative interviews with participants
- Conducting in-depth interviews with the participants;
- Write debrief reports for review by members of the research team;
- Transcribe the audios
- Communicate with local and international investigators weekly on interviews progress.
- Attend organized conference calls through zoom, skype etc. to discuss progress of conducted interviews
Required Qualification:
Diploma level of Education in Public Health or Social Sciences from a recognized institution.
Required Skills:
- Knowledgeable and sensitive about issues of privacy and disclosure.
- Data entry experience required
- Excellent written and verbal communication required
- Independent judgment and resourcefulness, understanding of the local social and geographical landscape as well as the community required.
- Post-qualification experience in conducting research will be an advantage
- Knowledge on PrEP will be an added advantage
- Must be keen and attentive to details and have ability to follow instructions and procedures properly.
- Must be non-judgmental and flexible to mix with all cadres of people.
