    Assistant Legal Officer

    Our client a fully-fledged commercial bank regulated by the central bank, offering a range of banking services including foreign exchange, current accounts and corporate finance products is looking to recruit an Assistant Legal Officer.

    Job Description:

    This role shall report to the Managing Director. The key role for this position shall be to provide quality legal leadership, guidance and direction in the planning and execution of all legal business and corporate strategies of the bank.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide general legal advice to the company.
    • Liaising with external legal consultants on all case management.
    • Conduct legal analysis and research on various legal matters of the Company.
    • Provide timely and accurate legal advice, representation and referral on different legal issues and assist in
      drafting legal opinions, memoranda and other briefing documents
    •  Be actively involved in preparing and drafting of different acts and legal submissions and draft the authoritative legal opinions as well
    •  Assist in reviewing the legal material and any other relevant documents and to identify the most important
      issues that need to be sorted out on a priority basis
    • Draw up formalities regarding the settlement of disputes and monitor the implementation of the legal clauses
    • Check all the existing company documents to ensure that they are in order and rectify any irregularities.
    • Deal with external legal counsel concerning the company and lenders advisors.
    • Improve efficient management of external advisors, consultants and other service providers
    • Implement suitable reporting mechanisms to ensure management is in a position to make informed and
      effective decisions.
    •  Any other work assigned by superiors.

    Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Law or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
    • Post graduate Diploma in legal studies;
    • Registered as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
    • Experience in legal drafting & thorough review of documents
    • Proven Knowledge & experience in banking law
    • Ability to liaise with external lawyers
    • Experience in managing the litigation process
    • Previous experience working with a commercial bank 2-3 years.
    • Working experience in dealing with government registries
    • Be a person of integrity, demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and be a team player;
    • Ability to maintain confidence and trust regarding sensitive issues; and
    • Demonstrated professional competence, integrity and capability in work performance;

    Salary Budget Ksh 80,000-150,000Ksh based on experience.

    Credit Officer

    Our client a fully-fledged commercial bank regulated by the central bank, offering a range of banking services including foreign exchange, current accounts and corporate finance products is looking to recruit an a Credit Officer.

    Job Description:

    This position reports to the Chief Credit Officer. The key role being to monitor the loans, advances and manage the
    credit risk.

    Responsibilities:

    •  Appraisal of Credit Applications for new facilities, enhancement and renewal
    • Review of Bank’s Loans and advances to different sectors
    • Review monthly limits expiring within the following three months and call for the appropriate data to
      facilitate appraisal and approval of the facility prior to expiry.
    •  Marketing for new business.
    • Process & Issue offer Letters
    • Issue Limits- Markup/ Disbursement of funds
    • Recover commitment fee on advances and commission on Letters of Guarantee and bonds
    • Monitoring overdrawn daily positions- calling for regularization of TOD, excesses over the overdraft limit
      and overdraft balances in savings accounts
    • Ensure prompt loan repayments and chasing for repayment of liabilities on problematic accounts
    • Recovery of overdue loans and overdrafts
    • Balancing of Suspense Accounts- Suspended Interest, Local Guarantees etc., against the respective GL
      accounts
    •  Provide and obtain Banker’s reports as necessary
    • Attend to renewal of insurance of insurance policies for properties, motor vehicles, machinery, equipment
      etc falling under debenture / Chattels Mortgage / Legal Mortgage
    •  Preparation of Management Recovery Reports
    • Maintenance of Facility Register and keeping it up to date at all times
    • Attend to external auditors queries relating to lending generally
    • Management of Security Documents held by the bank and, highlight anomalies and follow up for
      rectification
    • Updating and maintaining Security Registers
    • Custody and maintenance of Security Documents Dockets
    • Issue of Letters of Guarantee and maintenance of Guarantee Register
    • Raising Entries generally – Commitment Fee, Guarantee Liability and Commission etc.
    •  Preparing relevant reports for Head of Treasury and Central Bank of Kenya
    • Any other duties that may be assigned by management from time to time

    Qualifications:

    • Degree in Finance, Economics or Business Management, CPA K
    • 2-3 years’ experience working in a commercial bank
    • Self-driven with good organization skills
    • Solid analytical skills, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
    • Goal-oriented, reliable, flexible, and confident
    • High levels of honesty, discretion, and integrity
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills
