    Intern - CIME

    Job Purpose

     To create and systematically test materials used in the manufacture of simulators including silicones, hydrogels and gelatins.

    Responsibilities:

    • Specimen preparation.
    • Mechanical and physical testing.
    • Data recording and reporting.
    • Comparative material evaluation.
    • Laboratory safety and housekeeping. Follow chemical-handling and PPE protocols, manage cure-inhibition risks, and keep the workspace clean and equipment logs current.
    • General team support. Assist the wider simulator fabrication team with related tasks as directed.

    EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, an undergraduate degree in engineering (biomedical, mechanical or materials), chemistry, applied sciences, or a related discipline.
    • Exposure to basic mechanics of materials and/or laboratory chemistry is an advantage.
    • Prior laboratory, workshop or fabrication experience (including academic project work) is desirable.
    • Comfortable with spreadsheets and basic data handling; exposure to ASTM or ISO test methods is an advantage.

    Supervisor: Surgical Consulting Clinics

    Responsibilities:

    • Is responsible for day-to-day smooth running of the unit which includes staffing, appropriate scheduling of patients and coordination of patient care.
    • Leads the Consulting Clinic team in formulation, implementation and evaluation of annual goals and objectives in accordance with program and nursing division strategic objectives.
    • Develops collaborative ways of working that link all contributors in the multidisciplinary team in patient care issues.
    • Ensures staff coverage for safe and effective patient care.
    • In collaboration with others, leads the Consulting Clinic team in development, implementation and review of policies, procedures, protocols, Clinical pathways, and care guidelines in line with identified standards.
    • In collaboration with the Nursing Manager and Program Administrator participates in the recruitment, selection, and training of the Nursing team.
    • Undertakes performance reviews of staff in Consulting Clinics and develops action plans to ensure individual staff growth.
    • Fosters pleasant working environment through motivational leadership style to enhance job satisfaction among staff in medical consulting Clinic including physicians.
    • Puts in place measures to control unit costs, stocks, and bad debts.
    • Participates in the Budget process and ensures efficient utilization of resources.
    • Provides effective supervision of the nursing staff and utilizes learning opportunities for their development.
    • Continuously initiates innovative and evidence-based strategies to
    • improve patient care.
    • Participates in establishment of standards of care with unit staff, and monitors delivery of care according to established standards.
    • In collaboration with the Manager Nursing Education Services and Program Administrator, fosters development of nurses to maximum potential through providing educational/training opportunities and exposure to appropriate learning forums.
    • Ensures a system is in place to monitor nurses' clinical knowledge, skills, and competencies.
    • Develops and maintains effective networks both Internal and external to improve nursing practice.
    • Takes lead in unit based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC), and ensure participation by nurses.
    • Guides nursing staff in initiation of and participation in unit-based as well as hospital wide nursinc research prolects.
    • Is responsible for staff, patient, and family satisfaction with services in consulting clinics.
    • Responds to client complaints in a timely manner by solving problems or informing the relevant persons.
    • Ensures program-based client satisfaction surveys is carried out, monitors trends of incidences/complaints and takes appropriate action.

    Requirements:

    • Registered Nurse with current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BScN)
    • Certification in BLS
    • Proficient in Basic computer skills
    • Minimum of 5 years clinical nursing experience in Medical-Surgical unit in an acute care hospital.
    • 2 - 3 years in leadership position in Medical surgical units
    • Demonstrates current knowledge in general nursing.
    • Demonstrates leadership and management skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to teach and cascade information at all levels
    • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team

    Full Time Faculty, Dermatologist, Department of Medicine

    Job Summary

    • The Department of Medicine is seeking Fulltime Faculty, Dermatology to coordinate and monitor high quality educational programme; contribute to scholarship; and provide exemplary clinical service in line with the departmental practice plan for the delivery of quality services to patients and their families. The incumbent will admit, consult and undertake diagnosis and treatment of patients admitted under the Dermatology section. He/she will be allowed to order tests and radiology and consult with sub-specialists when necessary to ensure quality professional and ethical patient care.

    Responsibilities

    • Establish clinical services aligned to areas of interest and specialization and attending to emergency cases as and when required. 
    • Provide pulmonology liaison inpatient services in the hospital as required, manage patients in the outpatient clinics and provide on call services.
    • Educate patients with informed consent, wellness prevention and early detection.
    • Prepare a schedule of regular clinical teaching activity.
    • Assisting residents in their rotation, implementing and monitoring educational programmes while ensuring programme outcomes are attained.
    • Assist in the setting of examinations while ensuring formative assessments of the residents/interns are duly filled.
    • Promote and facilitate residents’ research, participating in scholarly activities including educational and clinical research.
    • Participate in the review and development of appropriate policies and procedures for patients’ healthcare to formulate best practice guidelines.
    • Participate in running an adult pulmonology fellowship program.

    • S/he must be registered or eligible for registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners’ & Dentists Board as a specialist.
    • S/he should have 1 year experience working post dermatology fellowship
    • Should have teaching and research experience with a minimum of 2 years’ clinical experience.
    • Should have a minimum academic position as Senior Instructor.
    • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Should have completed a Masters in Medicine or its equivalent.
