    Senior Java Software Engineer

    Role Overview

    Deimos is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join our team, focusing on a client's account in the fintech sector. In this key role, you will develop and implement high-quality software solutions aimed at addressing significant issues impacting business and individuals across the continent.

    You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to enhance the client's technology stack and public-facing products. This position presents a unique opportunity to contribute to a challenging project that aims to advance Africa's financial industry. You will make a meaningful impact in a dynamic environment.

    What you will be doing

    • Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable Java-based applications and systems.
    • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following best practices and coding standards.
    • Collaborate with technical product managers, software architects, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into user-facing solutions.
    • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including planning, estimation, development, testing, and deployment.
    • Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and mentor junior team members to foster continuous improvement.
    • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
    • Stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to enhance technical expertise and drive innovation.

    What you must have

    • 5+ years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on Java programming.
    • Proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise-level Java applications from concept to production.
    • Deep understanding of object-oriented design principles, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
    • Experience building web API using the Spring Boot framework.
    • Experience with web development technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related frameworks (e.g., Angular, React).
    • Strong database skills with SQL and relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
    • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Experience with service-oriented architectures (including microservices) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
    • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices.
    • Certifications in Java programming or related technologies.

    Intermediate Data Engineer

    Role Overview

    We are looking for a skilled Intermediate Data Engineer to join our Engineering division, contributing to a team focused on data-driven solutions. In this role, you will apply and adhere to established best practices to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality data products. You will be an essential member of a high-performing, interdisciplinary team and will report to an Engineering Manager.

    What you will be doing

    • Assisting in the maintenance & improvement of the data lake for a leading African e-commerce group.
    • Collaborating with the team on defining data requirements, implementing solutions, improving processes, and performing domain-specific data analysis.
    • Performing critical assessments of data systems and architectures to pinpoint areas for enhanced data usability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
    • Developing robust, maintainable, and efficient data engineering code in line with industry best practices.
    • Identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks, troubleshooting data-related issues, and enhancing the efficiency of data processing and storage systems.

    What you must have

    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in data engineering, focusing on big data technologies and cloud-based data warehousing.
    • Proficiency in managing data storage and optimization in AWS S3 for data warehousing, handling both large volumes of raw and processed data.
    • Solid experience in developing scalable and efficient data processing workflows using Apache Spark on AWS EMR.
    • Good understanding of data integration and orchestration using AWS services such as Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow (MWAA) and AWS Lambda.
    • Knowledgeable in data modelling and architecture principles applicable to large-scale data environments.
    • Proficient in programming with Python or similar languages commonly used in data processing.
    • Familiarity with using Git for version control in a team-oriented project environment.
    • Experience in an agile development setting, with an emphasis on the iterative and incremental development of data projects.
    • Understanding of automated release management for data applications, employing CI/CD pipelines for streamlined deployment and operations.
    • Experience in setting up and managing data catalogs with AWS Glue Catalog to effectively organize metadata.
    • Desirable: Some experience with using Terraform for resource provisioning and deployments on AWS.

    Senior Data Engineer

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a seasoned Senior Data Engineer to join our Engineering division and work with an established team dedicated to data-centric solutions. In this role, you will establish and enforce best practices to facilitate the effective delivery of high-quality data products. You will play a crucial role in a high-performing, interdisciplinary team and will report directly to an Engineering Manager.

    The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in data processing, data warehousing, and data integration technologies.

    What you will be doing:

    • Design, build, and maintain the data lake of one of Deimos’ prestige clients, an African e-commerce giant.
    • Create robust ETL processes and frameworks to support data transformation and integration from diverse data sources.
    • Ensure high standards of data quality and integrity, implementing data governance and compliance measures as per client and regulatory requirements.
    • Collaborate closely with the team on data requirements, their implementation, process enhancements, and domain-specific analysis.
    • Conduct critical evaluations of the data systems and architectures, aiming to identify opportunities for improved data usability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
    • Designing and developing robust, maintainable, and efficient code that aligns with best practices in data engineering.
    • Identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks, resolving data-related issues, and optimising the performance of data processing and storage systems.
    • Collaborating with senior stakeholders on the establishment, and growing of a world-class data practice in Deimos.

    What you must have:

    • At least five(5) years of experience in data engineering, with specific expertise in big data technologies and cloud-based data warehousing.
    • Proven experience in data engineering with a solid understanding of key data warehousing, processing, and integration concepts.
    • Experience managing data storage and optimisation in AWS S3 for high-performance data warehousing of large volumes of raw and processed data.
    • Extensive knowledge of implementing scalable and efficient data processing workflows using Apache Spark (preferably on AWS EMR).
    • A strong understanding of data integration and orchestration using AWS services such as Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow (MWAA) and AWS Lambda.
    • Well-versed in data modelling and data architecture principles suitable for large-scale data environments.
    • A strong understanding of programming principles with proficiency in Python or similar languages used in data processing.
    • Excellent understanding of SQL
    • Good working knowledge of version control using Git in a collaborative project setting.
