    Locum Laboratory Technologist, Clinical Chemistry

    Job Summary

    • Reporting to the Section Head Chemistry, the Laboratory Technologist will ensure provision of effective, efficient, quality laboratory analytical services in the Laboratory.

    Responsibilities

    • Receive specimens for general and specialized chemistry for assays
    • Maintain appropriate internal QC on chemistry/special  chemistry analyzers
    • Manage routine and planned preventive maintenance of equipment in the section
    • Analyze tests with maximum efficiency to produce valid results ensuring maximum utilization of reagents and time
    • Communicate urgent critical results to all concerned within recommended period of time and maintain appropriate documentation
    • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
    • Participate in continuous medical education
    • Observe and comply with Health and Safety regulations in the laboratory by maintaining high standards of hygiene and general cleanliness in work areas
    • Prepare and package samples at appropriate temperature   to be outsourced and hand-over to collection agents
    • Develop and implement SOPs in general and special chemistry

      Requirements

    • Higher Diploma in clinical chemistry or Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution;
    • Registration with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technician and Technologists Board is mandatory;
    • Minimum 3 (three) years’ working experience;
    • Demonstrable computer literacy;
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
    • Positive attitude towards work and other members of the team;
    • Ability to work under pressure;
    • Unquestionable integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Professional attitude and strong work ethic with attention to timeliness.

    Research Associate (Laboratory Technologist), Department of Pathology

    Job Summary

    • Reporting to the Principal Investigator and Laboratory Management, the Research Associate (Laboratory Technologist) will conduct all laboratory bench work, biorepository activities and documentation related to patient recruitment for research project on Biobank Establishment and other study sites. This is a short-term but renewable appointment for Three (3) months.

    Responsibilities

    • Operationalize all laboratory-based work for the Breast cancer research project including pathology tumour tissue and blood processing and storage
    • Develop a process flow from blood and tumor samples acquisition to sample processing, archiving, shipping and data management in line with research objectives and College of American Pathologists guidelines (CAP)
    • Perform blood and pathology sample processing, storage and documentation as appropriate to meet study objectives
    • Perform sample separation, extraction and quantification of DNA/RNA for quality checks storage and shipping where necessary
    • Receive, process and store blood and derivatives from a minimum of 100 patient samples
    • Receive, process and store breast cancer tissue and saliva samples from a minimum of 100 patient samples

    Requirements

    • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in laboratory science with competency in molecular techniques
    • Have a minimum of one year experience in research
    • Must have a Practicing Licence as a Lab-Technologist
    • Have previous working experience in a CAP accredited laboratory
    • Must be familiar with the process and functionality of a tissue biorepository/biobank
    • Have a certification in Good Clinical Practice/Good Laboratory Practice certificate.
    • IATA certificate
