    Manager – Problem Management

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Senior Manager – Service Operations Center the position holder will provide first line user support and ensure service requests from internal users are fulfilled within defined SLA’s and ensure timely service delivery.

    Detailed Description

    • Managing a team to ensure initiatives identified to prevent Problems and resulting Incidents from happening, to eliminate recurring Incidents and to minimize the impact of Incidents that cannot be prevented.
    • Spearhead Continuous Service Improvement through co-ordination, evaluation, execution and monitoring of quality initiatives.
    • Ensure engagements with various support teams are held continuously to review proposed root cause analysis actions and ensure weekly status reports have accurate updates.
    • Escalation management.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Must have technical / professional qualifications:

    • Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Telecoms Engineering
    • 6 years in Telecoms preferably in a GSM environment
    • Microsoft certification: MCSE, MCSA, MCP or MCITP
    • Unix/Linux Certification is an added advantage
    • ITIL V4 Certification or equivalent
    • ITIL Intermediary / MALC certification is an added advantage

    Principle Engineer: Core Network Roaming Support

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Senior Manager – Core Network Support the position holder will provide first line user support and ensure service requests from internal users are fulfilled within defined SLA’s and ensure timely service delivery.

    Detailed Description

    • Responsible for implementation of bilateral Roaming agreements and the necessary deployments to drive roaming customer experience.
    • Provide technical leadership, guidance and support for system upgrades and major reconfiguration.
    • Technical lead in engagements with international roaming partners, IPX/GRX carriers and voice carriers
    • Solving more complex problems in ROAMING escalated from first line teams as well as resolving faults on all equipment’s deployed for Roaming services
    • Interface with the supplier of the Roaming equipment and follow up on escalated problems until resolution
    • Quality of Service Management through tracking and trending of Roaming service KPIs and initiating corrective actions on any deviations

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Must have technical / professional qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or related certification

    Senior Solutions Architect

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Solution Architecture Area Lead, the role will be the liaison between business system users and the technical team in as far as creating automated business solutions is concerned.

    The role holder will also be responsible for gathering, detailing and documenting business requirements. He/ she will propose ways in which the existing processes and systems can be used or changed to meet new business requirements as well as identify internal systems integrations needed to meet business requirements.

    Responsibilities

    • Carry out full business requirements discovery that includes interviewing relevant stakeholders and end-users. i.e. requirements elicitation
    • Collect, classify, analyze and document business requirements as per set standards.
    • Create high-level solution designs to meet business requirements by exploiting the functionality available in IT systems already in Safaricom, or by filling missing gaps with appropriate new systems, in accordance with enterprise architecture.
    • Lead a project team composed of designers and developers to drive the business needs and expectations by ensuring business intent is understood and delivered by IT.
    • Collaboratively develop test-driven business requirements and functional specifications with business, technical, and testing team members.
    • Participate in technical/functional evaluation of bids for new systems.
    • Ensure sensible consensus is reached for all requirements/specifications and help business, IT, and test leads to have the same mutual understanding thereof.
    • Generate process documentation that clarifies and validates how the organization utilizes business systems to meet business requirements
    • Liaise with other sections/departments in the delivery of services and projects as well as maintain good working relations between the Squad & Tribe team and all stakeholders.
    • Provide support to the Business Unit by assisting in the development/reviewing/translating of User Requirement Specifications into a baseline BRD (Business Requirements Document) and building design documents (FDD, SDD).
    • Promote proper release planning, guaranteeing adherence to business needs, change management governance and priorities and consequently, contribute to the reduction of development costs in future.
    • Follow a prioritization process that is transparent and understandable for all parties involved.
    • Participate in innovation to improve delivered products and services and to explore new technologies and their applications to the enterprise space.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s Degree in either Computer Science or Business Information Technology or in a relevant field
    • At least 3 years’ work experience as a Software developer/Solutions Architect in a busy IT development environment, 2 years of which must include experience in systems analysis.
    • Professional Experience in Business Analysis (CBAP, IIBA) as well as software development lifecycle is essential, in agile (SAFe, Scrum) and waterfall methodologies.
    • Professional Experience in Solution Architecture (TOGAF)
    • Professional Experience in Cloud Architecture (AWS, Azure, Huawei cloud and Google Cloud)
    • Domain experience in financial services, financial technologies will be an added advantage.
    • Broad technical expertise combined with business acumen and strong consulting skills.
    • Knowledge in Micro service development
    • Knowledge in App and Web development
    • Knowledge in Relational Databases and NoSQL databases
    • Knowledge in DevOps activities e.g. CI/CD, Creating deployment pipelines

    • Excellent communication skills – must be able to listen to customers, document requirements quickly & accurately, and review written materials for accuracy. Must also be able to communicate specifications to person’s at all technical levels.
    • Proven track record for delivery of large scale, complex projects delivering IT/Telco customer solutions; demonstrable leadership skills and organizational experience.

    Principal Engineer: Core Network Support - Service Awareness

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Senior Manager – Core Network Support the position holders responsibilities shall include but is not limited to operation, maintenance, optimization, automation, transformation and implementation of Core Network equipment and services.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Responsible for implementation, Operation and Maintenance of EPC and IMS equipment e.g. DRA, STP, MSS, MGCF, MME, PGW, SGW, PCRF, SBC.
    •  Solution design and implementation of layer 6/7 services in the EPC and IMS domains
    • Translate business requirements into technical solutions using service awareness techniques like flow-based charging, bandwidth control, service reports, security protection and subscriber behavior analysis.
    • Design policies such as gating control, traffic shaping, traffic policing, QoS updates, redirections, header enrichment, online/offline charging policies: traffic based, time-based, event-based, etc.
    • Keeps current with technological developments with an emphasis on security within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents, standards, open source projects, and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
    • Assists with the design process and assists in guidance with regards to practices, procedures, and techniques.
    • Assists in tracking and evaluating performance metrics.
    • Works with Business Agile teams and technology teams to determine if Core Network infrastructure and applications fit specification and technical requirements. Tests and evaluates systems, subsystems, and components.
    • Acts as a technical contact and liaison for outside vendors and/or customers.
    • Troubleshoots and resolves complex Core network issues.
    • Designs and configures Core Network System

    Core Network Roaming Engineer

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Manager – Core Network Roaming the position holders’ responsibilities shall be to:

    • To provide second line maintenance support and solving more complex problems in roaming escalated from first line teams.
    • On callout for 24 hours daily
    • Provide second line maintenance support & solving more complex problems in ROAMING escalated from first line teams.
    • Quality of Service Management through tracking and trending of Roaming service KPIs and initiating corrective actions on any deviations
    • Develop tools for automation and speed up the maintenance process.
    • Perform system upgrades and major reconfiguration
    • Escalate issues and problems to roaming partners, IPX/GRX carriers, voice carriers and other vendors and follow up
    • Coordinate IREG Activities with other operators’ IREG/Network Engineers, schedule and perform the tests

    Key Responsibilities

    Maintenance

    • Analysis of all roaming NE logs and routine maintenance tasks.
    • Roaming Database audit on the network elements.

    Faulting 

    • Clearance of faults from 1st Line maintenance team Escalated to Core Network Support.

    Acceptance

    • All roaming Network elements & new Technologies.

    Execution of Change Requests

    • Configuration changes on Network elements, hardware and software configuration changes and upgrades

    IREG

    • Perform International Roaming Expert Group (IREG) testing
    • Support Roaming partners in performing IREG tests

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree in Telecoms engineering/electrical & electronics engineering/IT.
    • 5 years working experience in Telecommunications with at least 2 years experience in GSM core environment

    Principal Engineer - Transport and IP Support

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Senior Manager – Converged Network Support the position holders’ responsibilities shall be to Provide leadership in fault resolution, configuration changes, quality assurance and system improvement to deliver reliable and quality transport network &  IP domain.

    Key Responsibilities

    Fault Management:

    • Follow up to ensure all issues escalated to equipment or service providers are resolved within SLA.
    • Ensure all tickets are resolved and updated in remedy within the agreed OLA
    • Escalation level for major/critical failures within the network
    • Formulate Fault management procedures and maintain known issue DB

    Vendor Management:

    • Organize supplier monthly operations review meetings to ensure the adherence of SLA and contract
    • Management of Support conts and ensure adheherence to
    • Participate in Quarterly evaluation and review of transport and IP services suppliers
    • Participate in contract negotiation

    Transport Optimization:

    • Recommend optimization to improve resiliency in the IPRAN and IP Core dormains
    • Participate in the formulation of  high and low level designs of new transport systems (HLD&LLD) in the Optical network, IPRAN and IP core domains
    • Follow up with equipment vendors to provide hardware and software road maps and advice the business on the implementation
    • Recommend future proof network solutions
    • Conduct tests and recommend route optimization configurations in the IP core

    Change management:

    • Approve / reject transport & IP network changes
    • Coordinate changes in the transport & IP network
    • Ensue all the changes, designs and transport changes are implemented on time and with 100% accuracy

    Process management:

    • Develop and update acceptance, change, access, software upgrade and Disaster recovery and  processes and procedures for the transport & IP network
    • Ensure all the BCP results are updated on the sharepoint
    • Organize, supervise and document transport disaster recovery

    Proactive management:

    • Ensure all service protection mechanisms are in place
    • Make a Schedule BCP tests to ensure end to end redundancy for both IPRAN (RSG) and IPCORE
    • Ensure all transport network elements are well synchronized and receive right clock and that the network clock is transmitting the good clock
    • Track the network spare availability

    Cost management:

    • Recommend equipment/ technology that has contribute to lower NOPEX and TCO
    • Conduct POC tests for new technologies before they are introduced to the network
    • Remove configuration and power down old legacy equipment to save on space and power

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication Engineering, IT or related field;
    • Work Experience of 4 years in transmission domain in a fast-paced telecommunications environment –Involved in installations /commissioning and maintenance;
    • Technical professional certifications in the IP domain will be an added advantage.
    • In-depth understanding and experience of IP network and Support life cycle.
    • Good understanding of service configurations and deployment in transport and IP domain
    • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills
    • Experience troubleshooting of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and Routing systems.
    • Strong relationship building skills.
