    Nurse Manager, Outreach Administration

    Introduction

    • Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH, N) is a private not-for-profit teaching hospital that provides tertiary and secondary level healthcare services. It is one of the hospitals in East Africa accredited by the Joint Commission International from USA. The University Hospital has been providing high quality care for the people of East Africa and beyond for over 60 years.
    • The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi Outreach Division is a rapidly growing network of 50 medical centers spread over East Africa. These medical centers feature three to five consulting rooms with a practice that is home to specialists, qualified medical officers, highly experienced nurses and constant reception cover. The clinics offer an on-site pharmacy and laboratory as well as imaging services. There is high expectation for staff to provide high quality professional services.
    • The incumbent will provide leadership to the Outreach Nursing and Home Health Program Team and oversee their practice to ensure delivery of quality care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients within the Outreach Division. S/He will plan, coordinate, manage and evaluate all clinical, operational and administrative nursing care activities.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide leadership and governance of Nursing and Home Health Services in the Outreach Division in compliance with institutional policies and evidence-based practice
    • Communicate the divisional strategic plan to direct reports/divisional staff
    • Participate in the budget process and ensure unit-based control of operational costs based on institutional targets
    • Demonstrate effective counseling and coaching strategies in a diverse workforce setting
    • Participate in and oversee high quality and timely patient care in Outreach Division
    • Lead nursing and home health team in development, review of policies and implementation of procedures, protocols, and care guidelines based on best practice
    • Monitor the Team’s compliance to the quality standards and institutional policies and procedures
    • Plan for and promote continuous nursing education activities and provide training and monitoring over nursing practice
    • Lead the nursing team in evaluation of care and outcomes through Root Cause Analysis of incidences, Mortality and Morbidity discussions, and clinical indicators
    • Defines clinics specific nursing stock and ensure maintenance of adequate supply of nursing stock and other resources
    • Ensure availability of necessary supplies for provision of safe and quality care of Home Health clients
    • Incumbent will be responsible for the recruitment, selection, onboarding, orientation and on- going training of the Nursing and home health team
    • Ensure staff acquire and maintain the relevant skills, knowledge and competencies appropriate for the division
    • Design proactive and innovative ways to enhance customer satisfaction
    • Represent the division in various hospital committees as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer, Outreach Division and Chief Nursing Officer

     
    Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (B.Sc. in Nursing)
    • Registered Nurse with current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Masters in a Business or Clinical field will be an added advantage  
    • Experience in Safe Care/ JCIA Certification/Accreditation is an added advantage
    • Minimum of 10 years clinical nursing experience in acute care hospital with at least 3 years’ experience in management
    • Certification in BLS
    • Demonstrate expert knowledge and skills in area of responsibility
    • Demonstrates leadership and management skills.
    • Effective communicator at both operational and interpersonal settings

    Patient Services Coordinator, Outreach Clinic

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide outstanding customer services to patients, public and AKU staff and ensure inquiries and complaints to the department are addressed expeditiously
    • Consistently provide full coverage at all times at the front desk
    • Apply all functional computer applications to process daily front office transactions at compliance level standards
    • Maintain a manual invoice and receipt process in the event of a computer system malfunction and upon resumption of computer system. Update data and records in the computer system. To know the down time and data protection procedure in the event of a system failure
    • Register and admit patient’s accurately
    • Beware of the down time and data protection procedure in the event of a system failure
    • Account for and balance all monies collected from patients on daily basis
    • Verify and confirm credit services that are applicable to corporate employees as per the account entitlement details
    • In liaison with the relevant stakeholders, ensure that pre-authorizations are duly completed by the physician and sent to corporations for approval within 24hours
    • Ensure accurate billing and data entry of patients
    • Ensure patient biometric registration is done
    • Assist other patient services staff when the need arises in order to foster overall efficiency of the department and deliver timely patient care
    • Answer both internal and external phone inquiries and respond appropriately. Communicate messages promptly and accurately to concerned persons in order to help in the maintenance of smooth organization of patient care
    • Re-confirm and update the contact details of patients. In addition, ensure realistic appointments are booked and rescheduling is done on timely basis.

     
    Requirements:

    • Diploma in Front Office Administration, Business Administration or an equivalent qualification
    • 1 years working in a busy front office preferably in a service oriented industry
    • Proficient in computers
    • Proficient in handling, counting and recording cash & cash transactions

    Medical Officer, Outreach Clinic Prestige

    Responsibilities:

    • Review and examine patients consistently by performing such duties as taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic laboratory and radiology studies in compliance with evidence based practice and established protocols.
    • Monitor acute and chronically ill patients’ progress on a regular basis.
    • Initiate discussions with patients and care givers to enable better diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services.
    • When necessary, carry out privileged and potentially life-saving emergency surgical and medical procedures.
    • Provide evidence based screening and wellness examinations, risk assessment, early detection and education on prevention of illness.
    • Initiate timely discussions with relevant consultants/departments to arrive at the best treatment plan for specialized cases.
    • Establish links with clinic management and the main hospital to ensure smooth and efficient referral of patients.
    • Work closely with members of the clinical and non-clinical teams to provide patient centric, coordinated care, reduce errors and waste and create efficiency in resource utilization.
    • Actively participate in clinic quality initiatives in collaboration with the clinic management and Quality and Patient Safety team.

     
    Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent
    • Successful completion of at least 2-years post-graduate Internship.
    • Registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
    • Advance Cardiac Life Support and Advance Trauma Life Support (ACLS & ATLS)
