    Housekeeping Officer

    Job Summary:

    • Reporting to the Housekeeping Manager, the role holder is responsible for maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness, overseeing daily housekeeping operations, and ensuring the safety and satisfaction of patients, staff, and visitors in line with hospital policies and prevailing regulations.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Maintain high cleaning standards by ensuring exceptional cleanliness in all serviced areas, setting a high standard for the housekeeping team, and participating in daily cleaning activities as necessary, leading by example.
    • Oversee cleaning staff working across various areas, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

    Senior Operations Manager

    Job Summary.

    • This position is pivotal in strengthening Tenwek’s reputation as a mission-based teaching and referral hospital by ensuring quality and compassionate care is consistently delivered across every point of the patient journey.
    • The role reports directly to the CEO. It ensures seamless day-to-day operations, strong patient flow, reliable support services, operational and administrative readiness, and a culture of compassionate, Christ-centered service delivery.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    Strategic & Operational Leadership

    • Provide overall operational oversight leadership and operational support to clinical and non-clinical functions across AGC Tenwek Hospital and its satellite facilities.
    • Develop and implement integrated operational strategies that align with the hospital’s 2024–2028 strategic plan and Christian mission.
    • Champion a culture of compassion, accountability, and excellence across all hospital operations.
    • Lead hospital readiness for accreditation, inspections, and compliance with national and international quality standards.

    Service Delivery, Transitions of Care & Patient Experience

    • Oversee all administrative, clinical and non-clinical operational support, including inpatient wards, theatres, diagnostics, emergency, outpatient, maternal/child health, speciality units, catering, laundry, housekeeping, transport, and security.
    • In liaison with the clinical teams, ensure seamless transitions of care between Tenwek’s facilities, from admission to referral, transfer, and discharge.
    • Establish and monitor end-to-end patient flow systems that reduce overcrowding and delays.
    • Strengthen patient dignity and experience: ensure adequate utensils, linen, meals, and compassionate bedside culture.
    • Oversee implementation of robust Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) systems to reduce outbreak risks.

    Resource, Infrastructure & Financial Stewardship

    • Collaborate with supply chain, inventory and maintenance to ensure allocation of resources across all hospital and satellite facilities.
    • Ensure all wards and clinical areas have the basic tools, supplies, and infrastructure to deliver safe care.
    • Collaborate with the Finance team to optimize budget planning, cost-control, and resource utilization.
    • Lead infrastructure improvement projects to address overcrowding, sanitation, and patient flow bottlenecks.

    People, Culture & Performance Management

    • Provide leadership to operational and administrative managers, ward in-charges, and support staff across facilities.
    • Promote a culture of humility, service, and accountability, addressing unprofessional conduct and rudeness through coaching and performance management.
    • Build leadership capacity and succession planning across all operational departments.
    • Ensure staff training on IPC, customer care, and Tenwek’s Christian values of service.

    Compliance, Data & Reporting

    • Oversee compliance with Kenya’s Ministry of Health standards, KMPDC, and other regulatory bodies.
    • Implement systems to monitor and report patient safety indicators, adverse events, and service quality outcomes.
    • Produce timely reports and operational dashboards for the CEO, Board, and donor partners.
    • Champion data-driven decision-making in operations and clinical support.

     Stakeholder Engagement, Partner Coordination & Community Relations

    • Serve as the CEO’s representative for operational matters with county officials, referral partners, regulatory bodies, and external organizations.
    • Coordinate with county health teams, community leaders, and partner organizations to strengthen service delivery.
    • Support donor relations and strategic partnerships for resource mobilization and service improvement.
    • Represent Tenwek in external operational forums and strengthen its role as a referral and teaching hospital.

    Emergency & Risk Management

    • Lead hospital-wide emergency preparedness (pandemics, outbreaks, disasters).
    • Maintain and monitor risk registers for all operational areas, with mitigation and business continuity plans.
    • Ensure staff readiness and training for emergency response.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Nursing, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
    • 10+ years of progressive leadership in hospital operations or operational experience roles with at least 5 years in senior leadership in a large referral/teaching hospital.
    • Proven experience leading change in patient experience, IPC, and operational quality
    • Knowledge of Kenya’s health system, policies, devolved healthcare structure, and regulatory standards.
    • Strong financial management and infrastructure management experience.
    • Demonstrated success in managing multi-facility operations.

    Finance Manager

    Job Summary

    • The role-holder is responsible for managing the finance function, ensuring the implementation of sound accounting, budgeting and financial control policies, systems and procedures in line with International Accounting Standards and the hospital’s objectives.     Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Coordinate preparation of accurate and up-to date financial and management accounting information in order to facilitate decision making;
    • Establish and continuously update internal control systems and procedures to ensure prudent use of financial resources;
    • Coordinate the budget preparation process or the hospital and prepare the related special revisions in a timely manner;
    • Develop, implement and monitor effective systems of monitoring performance against budget including key financial performance indicators;
    • Assist budget holders with preparation of business plans and capital investment appraisals;
    • Ensure timely monthly reconciliation of budget adjustments to the agreed expenditure plan;
    • Review and benchmark operational costs and capital expenditure with the industry standards to ensure they remain within acceptable limits;
    • Ensure maintenance of an up- to-date assets register;
    • Facilitate training sessions for central finance staff members and develop non-finance managers with appropriate knowledge for financial decision making;
    • Analyze and report significant budget variances and to identify possible remedial actions in consultation with divisional accountants;

    • Ensure that closing stocks in financial statements can be tied up to physical stocks and differences are investigated promptly and resolved;
    • Provide advisory services on building the investment portfolio of the Hospital;
    • Ensure full integration of all Hospital Management Information Systems (HMIS) financial transactions;
    • Provide leadership and guidance to the team fostering a cohesive and unified organizational culture.
    • Day-to-day operations, supervision, management of performance and development of staff in the Department/Section.
    • Facilitate implementation of the work plans for the following corporate initiatives in the Department: Audit, Integrity, QMS, Risk Management and others.
    • Development and management of the Departmental work plan and budget
    • Perform any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.

    Education/Qualification

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant), ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) or equivalent.
    • Have a minimum of 10 years’ accounting/finance experience with 5 years in a supervisory or leadership position in a hospital setup.
    • Active member of either Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, (ACCA)

    Legal Officer

    Job Summary

    • The Legal Officer will provide in-house legal advisory, compliance oversight, and risk mitigation support to AGC Tenwek Hospital. The role is critical in managing medical-legal exposure, labour relations matters, data protection compliance, contract management, and litigation coordination, while supporting sound governance and institutional integrity.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    Medical-Legal & Clinical Risk Support

    • Provide legal advice on medical negligence claims, patient complaints, and medico-legal exposure.
    • Review and advise on incident reports, adverse event investigations, and medico-legal documentation.
    • Coordinate with insurers, external advocates, and clinical leadership on claims management and litigation strategy.
    • Support development and review of clinical consent frameworks, patient rights policies, and medico-legal SOPs.

    Labour & Employment Relations

    • Advise HR on disciplinary cases, grievances, terminations, suspensions, and appeals in line with the Employment Act, CBA provisions, and hospital policies.
    • Review and clear disciplinary investigation reports and recommendations before implementation.
    • Support management in labour disputes, union engagements, conciliations, and court cases (currently and future).
    • Ensure alignment of HR practices with labour laws, CBAs, and best industrial relations standards.

    Contract Review & Legal Documentation

    • Review, draft, and vet contracts, MOUs, SLAs, consultancy agreements, supplier contracts, and partnership agreements.
    • Ensure contracts adequately protect the Hospital from legal, financial, and reputational risks.
    • Maintain a central legal contract register with key terms, expiry dates, and risk flags.
    • Advise departments on contract interpretation and enforcement.

    Litigation & External Counsel Management

    • Coordinate all litigation matters involving the Hospital (medical, labour, commercial, data protection).
    • Liaise with external advocates, insurers, regulators, and courts.
    • Track legal cases, costs, timelines, and outcomes; prepare periodic litigation status reports for management.
    • Support out-of-court settlements where appropriate and cost-effective.

    Data Protection & Regulatory Compliance

    • Support compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2019, including staff and patient data handling.
    • Advise on data breaches, investigations, and mitigation actions.
    • Support compliance with healthcare regulatory bodies and statutory requirements applicable to Level 6 Teaching & Referral Hospital.

    Governance, Ethics & Advisory

    • Provide legal advisory support to Management, Committees, and the Board through the Director HR & Admin.
    • Support policy development, review, and interpretation from a legal compliance perspective.
    • Promote ethical conduct, risk awareness, and legal compliance culture across the Hospital.

    Credit Control & Finance Legal Support

    • Support the Finance Unit on credit control legal matters, debt recovery processes, and enforcement.
    • Review legal aspects of credit agreements, guarantees, and recovery actions.
    • Advise on legal risk exposure related to non-performing accounts and contracts.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized university
    • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya

    Research Manager

    Job Summary

    • Lead research initiatives, develop policies, manage projects, secure funding, collaborate with partners, mentor staff, and ensure findings dissemination, aligning with hospital policies and regulations.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Facilitate communications with investigators at Tenwek Hospital and other institutions together with the Head of Research
    • Monitoring and auditing research budgets under the supervision of the Head of Research
    • Assures compliance with registry and IRB status for research projects (such as clinicaltrials.gov)

    • Keeping a database of published research studies.
    • Coordinating communications with external IRB stakeholders.
    • Providing administrative support to the hospital and the Head of Research whenever needed.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Masters in relevant field from a recognized Institution
    • Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or a similar research ethics certification
    • At least 3 years of experience in medical research, public health, ethics, epidemiology, or a related biomedical science and a minimum of 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role within a research setting
