    NASCOP Medical Epidemiologist

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Participate in assigned HIV surveillance projects
    • Work closely with his/her supervisor to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other agencies and institutions, and key partners
    • Develop and review analysis plans, provide interpretation for analysis and write up results as needed
    • Work independently or with team members to put together protocols, data analysis plans, and other data dissemination outputs
    • Facilitate and/or coordinate dissemination of surveillance data through preparation of presentations, reports and scientific manuscripts
    • Provide technical assistance, capacity building and mentorship to stakeholders on epidemiologic and surveillance methods, survey design, data collection, management, analysis and use
    • Work in a multi-disciplinary team of epidemiologists, statisticians, surveillance officers, data managers and other surveillance personnel

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A MBChB or related medical degree is required. A Master’s degree in epidemiology, Public Health Monitoring & Evaluation or related field is an additional advantage.
    • Minimum of ten years working with in epidemiology, public health, surveillance or related field is required.
    • Experience in stakeholder coordination in the HIV response across national and sub national levels of government.
    • Competent Experience in HIV Program management and HIV program monitoring and evaluation.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of concepts of surveillance and epidemiology.
    • Experience preparing survey and surveillance protocols, technical reports and scientific manuscripts.
    • Strong interpersonal skills in working teams with varying areas of expertise to accomplish project objectives.
    • Demonstrated strong communication skills; ability to effectively communicate both orally and written complicated epidemiological information to non-technical persons.
    • Working knowledge of statistical software such as SAS, STATA or R.
    • Fluency in English required.
    • Kenyan national with experience of working with the Kenyan Government at national and sub-national level.

    Desirable Skills:

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Exceptional report writing skills
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with minimum supervision
    • Good analytical and presentation skills

    Epidemiologist

    Key Roles & Responsibilities:

    Key responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, providing the following services to Global Programs and/ or its affiliates: -

    • Provide leadership and oversight on assigned HIV surveillance projects.
    • Maintain collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), CDC-Kenya and other agencies and institutions, and key partners.
    • Develop survey protocols, tools and training materials.
    • Develop and review analysis plans, provide interpretation for analysis and write up results.
    • Develop and support implementation plans for assigned projects
    • Provide feedback and guidance to the statistical team on analysis and statistical outputs.
    • Facilitate and lead dissemination of surveillance data through preparation of presentations, reports and scientific manuscripts.
    • Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A Master’s or PhD degree in epidemiology or related field is required.
    • Minimum of eight years working in epidemiology, public health, surveillance or related field is required.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of concepts of disease surveillance and epidemiology.
    • Experience and technical expertise with surveillance systems and surveys using varying sampling methodologies.
    • Experience preparing survey and surveillance protocols, technical reports and scientific manuscripts
    • Experience capacity building on surveillance and epidemiological methods.
    • Strong interpersonal skills in working teams with varying areas of expertise to accomplish project objectives.
    • Demonstrated strong communication skills; ability to effectively communicate both orally and written complicated epidemiological information to non-technical persons.
    • Proficiency in either SAS, STATA or R statistical software packages.
    • Fluency in English required.

    Senior Biostatistician

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Under the supervision of the Medical Epidemiologist, the Senior Biostatistician’s key roles and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to:
    • Lead a team of statisticians and data management staff to provide support in data management and analysis for all HIV surveillance, surveys and evaluations projects including surveys, program evaluations, bio-behavioural surveys, program and laboratory data analysis and others as needed.
    • Provide strategic guidance to analysis work within the organization, MOH, partners and CDC-Kenya.
    • In collaboration with other epidemiologist, lead the development and implementation of data analysis plans for projects and surveys.
    • Lead writing of sections of protocols, reports, presentations that are relevant to statistical expertise including sampling methodology, sample calculations, data management and analysis.
    • Lead the development of training materials and/or courses in statistical analysis in coordination with capacity building advisor and epidemiologist.
    • Work with team leads to facilitate dissemination of work through presentations, reports and scientific manuscripts.
    • Work with the HIS team by providing input and guidance in development of data collection tools for surveys and programs.
    • Mentor and provide guidance to statisticians, surveillance officers on statistical analysis work.
    • Participate in data analysis, report and manuscript writing workshops for MOH and stakeholders.
    • Establish and maintain close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, CDC-Kenya and other agencies and institutions, and key partners.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A PhD in biostatistics or epidemiology with 6 years+ work experience or master’s degree with 15 years+ is required.
    • Minimum of ten years working in public health and/or epidemiology related field is required.
    • Broad knowledge of concepts of public health, epidemiology, statistics and surveillance.
    • Demonstrated experience and technical expertise with management and analysis of complex survey data, multivariate analysis, modeling, and geo-spatial analysis.
    • Demonstrated experience preparing survey and surveillance protocols, technical reports and scientific manuscripts.
    • Experience supervising and/or mentoring junior statisticians and/or data managers.
    • Demonstrated experience providing training and capacity building on statistical analysis and statistical packages.
    • High-level proficiency both in SAS and STATA statistical software packages.
    • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Fluency in English required.

    Other Desired Skills/Qualities:

    • In-depth, comprehensive, and evolving knowledge of statistical and mathematical analysis techniques integrated with computer applications.
    • Ability to work under general direction with minimal supervision, prioritize program activities, manage multiple activities with competing timelines and deadlines, and multitask.
    • Strong interpersonal skills in working with colleagues, subordinate staff, as well as partner and funding organizations.
    • Ability to effectively communicate complicated statistical and epidemiological information to diverse audiences in a clear and concise manner, both in written and oral form.
