    Associate Director Project Management

    Key Responsibilities:

    Team management:

    • Provide oversight of Program Managers and Program Management Specialists on tasks such as reporting, grant management, and organizational and donor communications
    • Lead performance management and professional development of direct reports, including continuous feedback, coaching, mentorship, and career support
    • Work closely with the program management unit members, ADVANCE Chief of Party, and SA Leads to ensure programmatic activities are properly accounted, reported, budgeted, forecasted, and in compliance with IAVI, grant, and donor-specific policies

    Program management:

    • Manage, coordinate, and monitor the program to ensure all activities are delivered with the desirable outcomes
    • Consistently assess program performance with the aim to maximize return on investment and programmatic impact
    • Identify and implement a program management system to ensure all program information is captured, documented, and readily accessible
    • Work closely with the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP), Operations and legal teams, to coordinate, direct, and expedite the contracting and procurement process, as well as resolve issues and reconcile discrepancies
    • Works with M&E team to design and implement a framework to track key indicators and results related to ADVANCE, informing the team of adjustments needed in project implementation
    • Build strong working relations with all Strategic Areas within the ADVANCE portfolio to enhance connectivity and cooperativity across the program
    • Support the building and management of key partnerships and collaborations essential for the successful delivery of ADVANCE
    • Provide leadership on the continuous improvement of the process, quality, and rigor of program reporting
    • Manage the annual work planning process in conjunction with the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party, Operations
    • With the ADVANCE Coordinator, support, organize, manage, and prepare for ADVANCE external facing meetings
    • Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager

    Education and Experience:

    • Masters in life science, Public Health, Organizational Management, or a related discipline is required; PhD is desirable
    • Minimum five years of work experience in a relevant project management role in a medical/academic/research environment is required

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating multiple programs and projects at the same time is required
    • Experience managing multi-centre research projects is required
    • Knowledge and experience in MEL project management is required
    • Experience with budget management is required
    • The ability to analyze situations and determine the best outcome is required
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships at all levels is required
    • Excellent organisational skills with an ability to multitask and prioritise is required
    • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills are required
    • Ability to write clear and concise reports is required
    • A team player who leads by example and holds themselves accountable for performance is required
    • Computer literacy, including advanced Microsoft Office skills is required
    • Experience working in the field of Global Health and/or HIV is desirable
    • PMP certification is desirable

    Bioinformatician / Data Scientist

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Stay up to date with new sequencing tools, platforms, and data analysis tools that can be incorporated into the ADVANCE program, ensuring the program maintains and easily accommodates new innovations and technologies
    • Build and integrate cloud-based/on-premise architecture to facilitate the analysis pipelines
    • Support analysis of sequencing data sets obtained by Sanger, Illumina NGS, and 10x
    • Support development and improvement of computational pipelines to analyze antibody, virus, and HLA/TCR sequences
    • Write software for curating, modeling, and maintaining large datasets
    • Maintain and further develop the Laboratory information management system (LIMS)
    • Integration and analysis of large scale clinical, epidemiological, and genetic datasets to gain new insights into disease susceptibility, disease progression, and vaccine response – particularly within the context of HIV infection
    • Build a knowledge base of existing bioinformatics capacity and future research aspirations for each CRC site, informing capacity building plans at the individual and cross-network levels
    • Garner a detailed understanding of ongoing projects in ADVANCE and suggest computational tools to accelerate outputs for different research projects
    • Understand the long-term portfolio of ADVANCE’s medium and long-term projects, particularly those related to capacity building and clinical trials, and co-develop computational and statistical tools to support future activities

    Education and Experience:

    • An advanced degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, data science or a related field is required; PhD is desirable
    • Minimum 4 years of experience in bioinformatics and data science is required.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Experience and knowledge of cloud computing administration or on-premise network administration and application deployment (GCS or AWS) is required
    • A strong track record in published research and/or directing research programs is required
    • Experience with capacity building or strengthening in LMICs is required
    • Experience programming in Python and software development stacks is required
    • Experience in the use of JuPandas Data Library and Jupyter Software Ecosystem is required
    • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills are required
    • Excellent planning, project management, and organizational skills are required.
    • Knowledge of Web APIs, REST/GraphQL is highly desirable
    • Experience in continuous deployment/continuous integration (CI/CD) is highly desirable
    • Experience with No-SQL database modeling is highly desirable
    • Experience in managing multi-centre research projects is desirable
    • Previous work experience in the field of Global Health and/or HIV is desirable
