    Consultancy for Survey Firm Recruitment for Data Collection

    SCOPE OF WORK 

    The firm will be primarily responsible for the following tasks with input from project partners. The firm will also support project partners with other relevant tasks as necessary

    • Manage the overall planning and implementation of the various surveys, including recruitment and training of experienced survey staff, overseeing data collection, performing data quality checks, cleaning and producing datasets in the required format (e.g., Excel and Stata)
    • Conduct listing exercise, clean listing data, prepare sampling frames, and conduct random sampling
    • CAPI programming, testing, and translation as necessary
    • Contribute to the preparation of survey training materials
    • Deliver survey staff training  
    • Provide regular update during the data collection
    • Deliver final clean dataset and survey implementation report
    • Deliver financial and other supporting documents as necessary

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR SURVEY FIRM 

    • Strong track record of conducting complex and large-scale quantitative agricultural household surveys
    • Experience in collecting and managing sensitive information
    • Have a qualified team of local staff fluent in local language
    • Able to provide adequate logistical resources to organize, train, deploy, and supervise survey staff
    • Proficiency in English and local language

    Call for Proposals for “Picture Based Advisories (PBA) – Tailored Digital Extension Based on Individual Field Pictures”

    Scope of work

    • Implement a cluster randomized trial across Kenya in the Long Rains 2022 and Short Rains 2022/23 season.
    • Develop and provide generic advisories to control group farmers and personalized remote advisories based on smartphone pictures to farmers in the treatment group
    • Respond to questions in the advisory portal with the aim of advisory classification after providing an advisory
    • Review, approve and reject smartphone images submitted by farmers and their champion farmers
    • Operate a call center that farmers can call with questions
    • Contribute to the loss assessment that is used to evaluate insurance claims

    Consultancy for Survey Implementer to Conduct Quantitative Household Survey

    • Develop spot- and back-check protocols and share these with IFPRI for feedback prior to the start of data collection. 
    • Participate in weekly meetings with IFPRI throughout data collection.  
    • Share the data generated from the spot and back-checks and additional data collection concerns with IFPRI in a timely manner so that issues can be promptly resolved. 
    • Share the data generated from CAPI (in Stata format) with IFPRI during data collection, as and when the data is uploaded to the servers. These data will not be the cleaned data sets (except for variable and value labels, checking and correcting skip patterns, formatting the data in long format as required) , but the raw data sets as sent to the firm from their survey teams. 
    • Conduct data cleaning to ensure consistency and range-checks; share the error check do-files with IFPRI. 
    • Provide responses to queries from IFPRI in relation to data cleaning (as needed). 
    • Deliver cleaned data sets (in Stata format) from the 1 , 000 household s in long format . The dataset should include translation of any open-ended questions from local languages to English if necessary.  
    • Provide a brief report covering quantitative survey fieldwork , as well as any issues related to data management and cleaning. 
    • PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE: July 31 , 202 2 to January 3 1 , 202 3 . 

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Demonstrated experience conducting quantitative survey fieldwork in Kenya within the past 5 years. 
    • Demonstrated experience conducting survey-related trainings . 
    • Expert knowledge of local context and languages in the target areas. 
    • Experience in building trust and good relations with village leaders, interviewees , and communities. 
    • Strong program management skills . 
    • Demonstrated experience in successfully coordinating large field teams and managing deliverables. 
    • Excellent computer skills and experience using CAPI and statistical software packages . 
    • Demonstrated experience with obtaining appropriate local ethics review and permits

    Call for Proposals for an Individual Consultant or Organization to Create and Deliver Training Materials for Smallholder Iron Bean Farmers in Kenya

    Evaluation Criteria
    Proposals will be reviewed by the selection team. The following indicate a list of the significant criteria against which proposals will be assessed. This list is not exhaustive or 100% inclusive and is provided to enhance the applicants' ability to respond with substance.

    Applicants are required to submit the following information, conforming to the guidelines given in this section:

    • Understanding of the scope of work
    • Understanding of the target audience, with attention to all cultural and literacy requirements and sensitivities
    • Understanding of the project objective and deliverables
    • Evidence of past experience developing and delivering a campaign of this type to a specific audience
    • Understanding of the technical requirements of the RFP
    • Creative and methodological approaches required to implement each of the parts of the scope of work
    • Comprehensive work plan with reasonable time frame
    • Detailed budget, with attention to cost-effectiveness and return on investment
    • Proposal shall identify possible challenges and include creative approaches to addressing them
    • Management and personnel plan
    • Team members with relevant qualifications and overall experience required to successfully implement the project
    • Identification of roles and responsibilities of each team member, as well as a main contact person for HarvestPlus
    • Standard rate card of the agency deliverables, e.g. print ads, banner advertising, 30 second radio ad, etc.
