    Principal Engineer – Backbone Transmission Planning

    Brief Description

    Reporting to Senior Manager- Transmission & IP Engineering, the position holder will be responsible for management of TNP Team involved in Modeling, Planning, design, optimization and project management of reliable transport systems /networks in support of timely transmission requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Management of Modeling and planning of Transmission systems/network and respective capacity planning and analysis (DWDM, SDH Optics).
    • Equipment planning and subsequent Transmission hub and BSS space management.
    • Ensure Network build with 70% occupancy and 30% growth factor.
    • Project management of Transmission projects from inception of plans to Projects handover to NM and management of transmission systems/equipment suppliers.
    • Ensuring equipment space and power availability for planned systems.
    • Ensure PO process is followed through, goods landed in time and RFI/S issued to right departments.
    • Running of transmission/transport trials, equipment/system parameter checks and evaluation and subsequent recommendations for approval and adoption of new equipment, systems and technologies into the network.
    • Ensuring Due diligence in products introduction to network.
    • Liaison with Implementation department during site surveys and visits to ensure timely monthly rollout in accordance to timeframes set in Roll out process.
    • Approval of transmission designs and plans for required bandwidth.
    • Approval of leased bandwidth capacities or Tx facilities from third parties.
    • Ensure proper test gears to subject new equipment to full suite of compliance tests.
    • Ensure monitoring of all network elements is achieved.
    • Ensure TX team is adequately trained to perform expected duties.

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Higher National Diploma in Electronics/Telecommunications  
    • 5 years’ experience with 3 years specialized role in a busy telecommunications environment –Involved in installations /commissioning and planning of major telecom projects especially in the transmission backbone field ( Optical).
    • Knowledge in Pathloss design tool, Map info, KMZ.

    Technical Product Owner (TPO)-Revenue Reporting Automation

    Brief Description

    Reporting to Tech Lead Revenue MGT and Financial Reporting, the position holder will be responsible for leading delivery in the Reporting automation squad within BSS tribe, leading the squad initiatives geared towards achieving Zero Manual billing for all the products, work with the cross-functional team in the squad to define the squad priorities, roadmap, delivery and quarterly benefit reviews. The Tech lead will also be the functional expert owning the final designs for the different initiatives and will coordinate knowledge sharing among the team members ensuring initiatives are rolled out with the right.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Business Delivery: Work directly with the reporting team to automate revenue controls, enterprise products and services reporting and IFRS compliance for all products. Own Roadmap and Gap analysis discussions with the business teams. Own development of reporting pipelines. Own adoption of open-source tooling. Draw reporting best practices, guidelines and standards and adoption.
    • Stakeholder Management: work closely with the stakeholders, Support in the identification of risks, dependencies, and impediments, to facilitate finding solutions, collaborating with other teams and stakeholders, and actively escalating, when necessary, to ensure timely resolution.
    • Lead reporting automation engineers in the Squad helping them deliver right quality solutions, right architecture, automate ETL Pipelines to ensure timely and accurate realization of all revenue streams, zero manual billing and invoicing, 100% IFRS compliance and dealer commission payments.
    • Team development: Ensure team members acquire the relevant skillsets through knowledge transfer, coaching, mentorship and defining clear learning paths
    • Provide regular reports and updates on the squad’s performance
    • Promotes innovation and continuous improvement together with scalable and sustainable developments
    • Defines the professional standards/work methodology in the chapter around reporting automation and compliance.
    • Leads and develops the abilities and skills of the members of the chapter, increasing their productivity in the delivery of value for customers.
    • Defines processes of interaction, transfer of knowledge and tool sharing among the members of the chapter.
    • Holds responsibility for the performance evaluation of the members in the squad.
    • Works with the Tribe Lead to provide workforce planning, to include recruitment and development.
    • Participates as an expert, solving complex problems related to area of expertise on an ad hoc basis with other teams within the tribe
    • Establish regular feedback sessions and owns the PD cycle for team members.
    • Acts as a mentor for the specialist resources within their practice, helping them grow in expertise and experience new areas

    Qualifications

    • BSc /B-Tech in computer Science/Electrical and communication/ Telecoms, Engineering or a similar field
    • At least 5 years’ experience in business Intelligence systems; ETL Tools, Databases and data visualization and process automation.

    Technical Product Owner - Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure Automation

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Technical Tribe Lead-IT4IT, the position holder will be responsible for delivery in the Hybrid cloud infrastructure Automation squad within the IT4IT tribe. Hybrid cloud infrastructure squad is responsible in automating and orchestrating various aspects of Safaricom hybrid cloud infrastructure configuration, provisioning, and management.  The job holder will work closely with cross functional teams in the squad to define the squad priorities, roadmap, delivery, and quarterly benefit reviews. The TPO will also coordinate knowledge sharing among the team members ensuring initiatives are rolled out with the right quality. The TPO will also steer developing the skills of all team members in the squad.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develops detailed product feature specifications and ensure they’re clearly understood by the development teams.
    • Reviews and reprioritizes backlog in preparation for Iteration Planning, including coordination of dependencies with other Product Owners and earliest delivery of value to our customers
    • Collaborates with the team to detail stories with acceptance criteria and associated acceptance tests
    • Communicates story detail and priorities, ensuring the team aligns and agrees on the final iteration plan
    • Understand the core technology platform capability and collaborate with developers in the best way to meet product objectives, acts as the customer for developer questions
    • Collaborates with the Systems Architect to assist with decision-making and sequencing/prioritization of technical enablers
    • Accepts stories as done: Validates the story meets the acceptance criteria and complies with the definition of done
    • Exhibits Lean-Agile leadership: Exhibits the behaviors of a Lean-Agile Leader with a Lean-Agile Mindset.
    • Actively mitigate roadblocks impacting successful team completion of release/sprint goals.

    Qualifications

    • BSc /B-Tech in computer Science/Electrical and communication/ Telecoms, Engineering, or a similar field
    • At Least 5 years’ experience as cloud engineer, Systems administrator, Network administrator or analyst in a multifaceted business environment with integrated/mixed windows and major UNIX/Linux server environment.
    • System Administration Techniques – understanding OS Performance, Microsoft and UNIX/Linux enterprise hardware and storage.
    • Experience working with agile methodologies, such as Scrum, Kanban, XP, BDD and TDD.
    • Strong data analytical skills, analytical thinking, attention to details and ability to identify solutions to complex problems.
    • Experience in working with Terraform, Ansible infrastructure as code platform to automate various aspects of infrastructure configuration, provisioning, and management.
    • Experience in building DevOps pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Git, Ansible, Terraform, Vagrant etc...

    Certification in any of the following Systems and Network or related trainings is an added advantage

    • AWS Certified Solution Architect certification
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
    • Virtualized Infrastructure Specialist
    • Terraform Associate certification
    • Red Hat Certified Specialist in Advanced Automation
