    Underwriter

    Job Description

    • Enforce underwriting controls including on-boarding, certificates, booking of business, and documentation.
    • Implement underwriting guidelines, process, and procedure to ensure quality underwriting and business.
    • Ensure profitability of the department through quality control and on-boarding
    • Quality documentation timely turn around - TAT and
    • Excellent customer service and retention support.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Enforce underwriting controls.
    • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Ensure clean and accurate data capture.
    • Timely preparation of quotations and follow up.
    • Debiting of premiums and processing of policy documents within set timelines.
    • Processing and checking of underwriting Documents.
    • Issuing & signing of Motor Certificates and Yellow cards.
    • Review and dispatch of notices and documents.
    • Ensure that work is done within the set standards of service and TAT.
    • Prepare relevant reports for management and departmental consumption.
    • Give quality customer service to all clients.
    • Safe keeping of security documents.
    • Daily scanning and indexing of mails.
    • Initiating motor valuation and follow up.
    • Adherence to the credit control policy.
    • Follow up renewals and ensure maximum retention of profitable accounts.
    • Timely processing refunds and follow up.
    • 100% Adherence to the authority matrix.
    • Ensure registry is fully maintained, orderly and up to date.
    • Ensure compliance of AML and PEP guidelines
    • Ensure cross sale and up sale opportunities are maximized.
    • Perform any other duties as may be required by the management.

    Senior Underwriter

    Job Description

    To assess, price and determine terms for risks presented within set standards of service in a manner to ensure quality selection of risks and enforce underwriting controls, implement underwriting guidelines, processes, and procedures to ensure quality underwriting and business

    PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES.

    • Determine acceptability of risks to ensure that risks onboarded are within the set underwriting guidelines and are covered under the reinsurance Programme.
    • Providing technical advice/support to junior staff on rating and underwriting of complex risks to ensure safe profitable distribution of risk.
    • Managing underwriting processes like business onboarding, completeness of onboarding documents, risk surveys and valuations, policy documents issuance, certificates management, cancellations, and refunds.
    • Providing technical support and input on product development and business innovation initiatives to ensure continuous review of existing products to meet changing market needs.
    • Review and approval of risk pricing and quote requests.
    • Response to daily operational queries from customers to ensure smooth operation and efficient customer experience within the stipulated turnaround times.
    • Auditing and monitoring compliance levels on various compliance issues such underwriting documentation, risk cessioning in the system and compliance with filled and reinsurance rates.
    • Review and approval of policy schedules and documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and correctness of the same.

    KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE.

    Qualifications:

    • Degree in insurance, actuarial or business related.
    • Professional qualification (CII or IIK) or good progress

    Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience

    KEY RESULT AREAS & PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

    • Review of performance of accounts to ensure overall performance is below 45%.
    • Maintenance and accounting for accountable documents.
    • Signing of documents within authority levels.
    • Completion of reinsurance cards for large risks.
    • Ensure the SOP standards are upheld in the department and report any issues of non-compliance.
    • Ensure payment requisitions are processed immediately when presented.
    • Ensure quotations, including those done by Assistant underwriters are competitive.

    Case Management Nurse - Mombasa Branch

    Job Description

    To control and manage medical benefit utilization through preauthorization and case management activities and ensure quality, appropriate cost-effective care and good customer service

    KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Pre-authorize scheduled and non-scheduled admissions within the set guidelines.
    • Negotiate/discuss professional fees as appropriate for each admission.
    • Set the appropriate parameters for each admission (claim reserve, initial authorized cost and duration).
    • Visit all admitted clients within Nairobi region and its environs
    • Liaise with Doctors on the day-to-day management of patients and obtain medical reports/ expected length of stay where indicated.
    • Ensure smooth discharge process and co-ordinate any necessary post-hospitalization/ step down facility care.
    • Revise reserves after discharge of member.
    • Collect feedback from admitted clients on quality and scope of service by the service provider.
    • Assist in carrying out verification and medical audit of claims/invoices before settlement.
    • Develop and maintain monthly database on admissions, large claims and extended length of stay. 
    • Respond to queries from clients, intermediaries and service providers.
    • Liaise with other medical underwriter for purposes of market surveys and development of new controls, standards and products.
    • Any other duty assigned by management.

    QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

    • Diploma or Degree in Nursing
    • Diploma in Insurance/ COP
    • Degree in Health systems Management/ Business management 
    • 3 years’ experience in clinical setting +2 years in insurance set up
