Job objective

AAA Growers - Veg is a division within AAA Group that deals with vegetables, chilies, and herbs. At AAA Growers - Veg, we produce a variety of premium & prepared vegetables, herbs, chilies, and fruits. Demand by some of our clients led to addition of herbs into the product range that AAA exports.

The growing started mid 2010 in chestnut Farm on a small scale and currently the herbs are spread across our three farms. Our herbs are grown both in-house and open field to ensure continued supply across the year and consistent quality. As the Production Manager – Avocado you will be responsible for the oversight of all activities within the Simba Avocado orchards concerning production and general maintenance of all Simba orchards.

Your tasks and responsibilities

• General plant hygiene and health, Observing and monitoring plant health for signs ofstress, disease or Pest incursion
• Plant nutrition and pest control activities as agreed with your immediate senior manager
• The utilization, management and maintenance of the irrigation system, spraying equipment, field working tools etc
• Quality control and proper handling of harvested fruits,
• Training new techniques and methodologies like propping, pruning, harvesting, weeding, mulching, field drainage etc.
• Establishment of an avocado crop model to monitor the phenological growth stages throughout the season
• Adhere to a robust avocado gap-filling/infilling program aimed at maintaining a uniform stand oftrees across the orchard
• Source for Avocado scions for grafting from a reputable source
• Plan and forecast Avocado seedling grafting and delivery as per the seasonal demands.
• Ensure that all labour in the section is effective and efficient and that all staff achieve the recommended daily tasks.
• Train staff in organic farming, grafting, pruning, crop management and all other practices required from time to time.
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the orchard such as nursery management, transplanting, irrigation, fertilizer application, pest management and harvesting.
• Assist the agronomy team to ensure that pest control is well managed. And all pests and diseases are always kept below threshold.
• Monitor irrigation and the scheduling of irrigation based on crop requirements and stages of production.
• Deeper agricultural knowledge of the avocado crop husbandry and seasons in East Africa
• In-depth understanding of the avocado husbandry practices.
• Ensure the orchard operations adhere to standards of all agricultural audit’s guidelines
• Handle and address any deviation on standards

Your profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ hands-on experience in orchard or plantation management, preferably in avocado or fruit crop production.
• Proven experience in crop husbandry practices such as pruning, grafting, irrigation management, and pest/disease control.
• Experience in managing farm labour teams, ensuring productivity, compliance, and safety standards are met.
• Strong understanding of avocado crop growth stages, phenological monitoring, and seasonal planning.
• Proficiency in irrigation scheduling, fertilizer application, and pest & disease management.
• Ability to manage inventory, tools, and field equipment, ensuring proper utilization and maintenance.
• Sound knowledge of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Global GAP, and other agricultural audit standards.
• Excellent people management skills, including staff supervision, training, and performance monitoring
• Hands-on, proactive, and results-oriented approach to orchard management.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a passion for continuous learning and improvement.

As the Junior Production Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all production aspects and operational efficiency within the designated production Section.

Your tasks and responsibilities

• Control production costs and monitor expenditure against budget; implement cost-saving measures.
• Plan, direct and coordinate greenhouse vegetable production: greenhouse integrity, planting, crop maintenance, harvesting/training, forecasting, cleanliness and microclimate.
• Ensure timely production of excellent-quality products and prepare production reports/forecasts for
• Farm Manager and Sales.
• Oversee day-to-day operations; lead, guide, train and supervise growers; allocate work to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
• Monitor KPIs and foster teamwork, safety and professional development.
• Manage tools/equipment, maintain asset inventory and coordinate preventive maintenance, PPE, tools and equipment requisitions.
• Oversee crop production from land preparation, planting, irrigation and crop protection through growing, harvesting and maintenance. 
• Ensure Section Heads/Supervisors work within budget, resources and employee hours are efficiently utilized, control overtime and plan for demand.
• Ensure regulatory compliance, five-week/weekly production predictions within ±5%, greenhouse preparation/maintenance schedules, cropping schedules and cultural activities.

Your Profile

• Degree or Diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture or a related field.
• Over 5 years’ experience in greenhouse vegetable crop production in the same capacity.
• Self-motivated, strategic thinker with excellent crisis management skills and able to bring solutions to thetable.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and diverse agricultural environment.
• Strong administration, site management and people management skills with proven delivery on targets within a strict timeframe.
