    Pharmaceutical Technologist, Main Pharmacy

    Responsibilities

    • Receive, verify prescriptions and dispense drugs in a timely manner within approved standards and procedures.
    • Contact the physician immediately for inaccuracy and illegibility in a prescription order, document errors and communicate them to the nursing and pharmacy staff
    • Verify expiry dates of drugs prior to dispensing medication to patients/customers.
    • Check that every label placed on the medications contains the correct patient name, drug, quantity and directions.
    • Compound extemporaneous preparations and mix certain intravenous medications as per laid down procedures.
    • Counsel patients on drug administration and use of devices for optimum wellness and recovery.
    • Receive, return and update drug credits on the system in a timely manner.
    • Deliver drug discharges to patients in the ward where applicable
    • Communicate out of stock and non-stock effectively and timely to prescriber and nurse and provide alternative choice or make arrangements to order promptly.
    • Comply and observe the environmental health and safety measures and regulations by proper handling, storage and dispensation of medications
    • Record, monitor and update the expiry list of medications in timely manner.
    • Conduct nursing floor inspections once a month for all ward stock, solutions and patient medication left behind
    • Complete documentation of Interventions, Medication errors and Near Miss, Adverse events, Medication queries, Patient complaints or any other incidents and forward to relevant office
    • Perform random medication checks daily and Monitor variance levels in your respective satellites.
    • Compile daily satellite reports.
    • Carry out regular satellite stock-take exercise.
    • Report any special indicators allocated.
    • Maintain and update personal drug knowledge data base to ensure accurate provision of pharmaceutical care of general disease states as well as specialized knowledge in the assigned area of expertise

    Requirements

    • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution
    • Practicing License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
    • 1 year working experience in a busy facility, preferably a hospital
    • Computer literate
    • Able to communicate with medical professionals
    • Able to work with a team of people from various backgrounds and training
    • Excellent customer service skills and empathetic to patients of all ages
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Culturally sensitive
    • Able to keep up with pharmaceutical developments and Continuous Medical Education programmes.

    Dispatch Clerk, Pathology Admin Office

    Responsibilities:

    • Dispatch reports after adequate entry of details in dispatch books for each user group.
    • Ensure that only completed reports are dispatched to the user group having been signed by senior laboratory staff.
    • Ensure that the laid down protocols of dispatch of reports and timings are maintained at all times.
    • Attend to queries from doctors, patients and other department staff regarding dispatch of reports.
    • Co-ordinate routine disposal of laboratory forms as per protocols laid down by the department.
    • Keep a log of details of misfiled or mis-dispatched reports.
    • Assist in photocopying of letters and reports of the department.
    • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

    Instrumentation Technician, Engineering

    Responsibilities:

    REGULAR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide technical support for electrical/elctronics & instrumentation systems and equipment throughout Aga Khan University as assigned including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance;
    • Document all actions and test results of instrumentation/control systems according to department policy;
    • Promptly respond to instrumentation system/equipment Breakdown Maintenance (BDM) request from user Departments as per policy;
    • Timely complete and document Preventive Maintenance (PPM) reports for instrumentation system/equipment;
    • Liaison with user Departments for maintenance activities and report to team leader/electrical supervisor on issues arising.

    PERIODIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Coordinate and/or participate in requests for special projects, such as new instrumentation systems/equipment acquisition purchase planning, development of bid specifications, etc;
    • Develop with team leader/electrical supervisor instrumentation systems  Preventative Maintenance schedules and guidelines;
    • Develop or review with team leader/electrical supervisor, instrumentation systems/equipment safety and device-specific in-service education to other technicians and  equipment users as necessary;
    • Perform incident investigation on instrumentation system/equipment performance analysis as required;
    • Develop or review with team leader/supervisor emergency and safety plans related to use and operation of instrumentation system/equipment;

    Requirements:

    •  Diploma in Electrical engineering (instrumentation option) or equivalent qualifications.   
    • S/he should be computer literate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, very good analytical and organizational skills.
    • Thorough knowledge on technical functioning and maintenance of industrial electronics and control systems , with special emphasis on instrumentation, Variable speed drives (VSD) systems, Programmable logic circuits (PLC) control systems.
    •  Must have experience with Electronic Instrumentation, Electromechanical and Pnerumatic instruments.
    •  Must have experience with repair and operation of PLC Systems.
    • Experience with electrical distribution systems and controls, refrigeration and air conditioning functioning and maintenance would be an advantage.
    • Systematic and analytical diagnosis approach in troubleshooting breakdown in control systems
    • Computer skills and analysis would be an added advantage.
    • At least three years experience in a similar position

    Lab Technologist, Histopathology/Cytology

    Job Summary

    Reporting to the Section Head Histology, The Laboratory Technologist will ensure provision of effective, efficient and quality analytical Histopathology/Cytology services in the Laboratory.

    Responsibilities

    • Receive Histology and Cytology specimens.
    • Maintain appropriate internal controls on all processes in Histology/Cytology.
    • Monitor and manage routine and planned preventive maintenance of equipment in Histology/Cytology section.
    • Communicate urgent/critical/abnormal test results within recommended period of time and maintain appropriate documentation.
    • Carry out all processes with maximum efficiency utilizing reagents appropriately by following laid down standard operating procedures to achieve the expected turn-around time.

    • Prepare stains/reagents and maintain appropriate documents to demonstrate batch to batch validation.

    Requirements

    • Higher Diploma in Medical Lab Sciences or equivalent;
    • Registration with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologists and Technicians Board is mandatory;
    • Competent in Tissue blocking, Trimming, sectioning, staining and archiving;
    • Minimum of 3 (three) years’ experience in a similar position;
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;

    CCTV Technician/Operator, Safety & Security Administration Office

    Job purpose:

    Reporting to the Team Leader, Safety & Security, you will operate and monitor all systems, including CCTV, within the Control Centre in a professional and efficient manner. You will also ensure integrity, accuracy and confidentiality of all information gained by compliance with quality standards and legislation, whilst preserving the rights of the individual.  Additionally, you will be responsible and ensure the safety and security of people and property within public areas and other Facilities via surveillance of the CCTV network.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure smooth/ uninterrupted operations of CCTV and other electronic surveillance/alarm systems in the institution.
    • Operate and monitor CCTV System and allied surveillance alarm devices installed.
    • Train new staff on the operation and manning of Electronic Surveillance/Alarm Equipment
    • Ensure safe custody and serviceability of the CCTV and allied electronic equipment.
    • Operate the Radio Communication Base Station, attend to telephone calls.
    • Maintain network video recordings of the monitoring station.
    • Prepare and subsequently monitor the electronic security sections duty roster.
    • Work in coordination with other CCTV Operators in the department.
    • Supplementing supervision of guards via the CCTV Surveillance system.
    • Appropriate activations and calling-off of emergencies.
    • Dispatch and monitoring of E.R.T responses to emergencies.
    • Public Address System announcements.
    • Perform any other task assigned by Team Leader, Safety& Security.

     Qualifications and Skills required.

    • Certificate in CCTV Operation from a reputable institution
    •  Diploma in a Safety and Security related field is an added advantage.
    • KSCE minimum grade of D+ / O level certificate
    • Minimum of 3 years working experience in a similar role
    • Knowledgeable of the overall operation of the CCTV system.
    • To have a full understanding of the legal and human rights legislations regulating the use of CCTV and its impact in security operations.
    • Ability to write good CCTV analysis reports and to give CCTV evidence in a legal forum.
    • Experience in the use of computer-based technology to provide reports.
    • Ability to use and communicate with the VHF radio system.
    • Proven ability to deal tactfully and effectively with people at all levels within the organization, external agencies, contractors, and members of the public.
