    Lead Vehicle Maintenance Technician

    About the role

    • We have successfully piloted an electric motorcycle and battery swap network in Nairobi, with motorcycles in daily operation for a year and nearly 2 million km travelled. We are now expanding our customer base rapidly, and now ;
    • Ampersand is seeking a Lead Vehicle Maintenance Technician who can lead other vehicle maintenance technicians to deliver exceptional customer service in e-moto repair. This person will need to be an exceptional mechanic, capable to lead a team, a clear communicator, a team player, and a flexible contributor.

    The Lead Vehicle Maintenance Tech will be responsible for the following:

    • Champion excellent customer service in our E-Moto servicing team.
    • Train, mentor, and manage vehicle maintenance technicians to deliver amazing customer service.
    • Prioritize the customer to keep them on the road and earning income for their families.
    • Be fully accountable for the speed and quality of work in repairing customer vehicles.
    • Manage the diagnosis of underlying issues affecting customer vehicles.
    • Work closely with the vehicle maintenance customer service agent to provide clear and honest information to the customer on the status of their repair.
    • Fix issues individually or support tech team members in doing so.
    • Diagnosing, analyzing, and solving electric motor-related issues.
    • Support the engineering team in a deep analysis of vehicle issues.
    • Audit the work of his/her team to ensure a high standard of service.

    • At least 3 years of experience in motorcycle maintenance or electric motor rewinding
    • Preferably with a degree in a mechanical or electrical field.
    • Must have basic computer skills
    • Strong electrical motor intuition
    • Diligent and proactive in approach to work
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • (Bonus) Driving license: Category A

    Operations Manager

    About the role

    • Reporting to the Kenya Country Director, the Operations Manager will lead our largest customer-facing team in Kenya and will be responsible for all battery ‘Swap’ operations including the health of the charging network and the battery pool. In addition, the role will oversee roadside care (rescues), vehicle maintenance and Supply Chain and daily operations at multiple charging stations, provide administrative support and coordinate with the Kenya Country Director at various levels.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage and lead the charging Station Network team which includes the Charging station supervisor and Swap Station Attendants.
    • Engineer exceptional customer interaction and ensure customer service remains a top priority.
    • Improve the delivery of customer vehicle maintenance, including increasing technician efficiency.
    • Set strategies, priorities and objectives for operations, including accountability for every team member.
    • Develop, monitor and react to swap network performance KPIs and report upwards for support on a weekly basis.
    • Standardize and document station operations and related processes.
    • Maintain supply and availability of charged batteries in the network, including new battery distribution, battery balance between stations and battery repair processes
    • Ensure a healthy working environment by reinforcing Health & Safety compliance and safe station infrastructure.
    • Management of the DEAR platform for stock-keeping and customer point of sale
    • Oversee spare parts inventory, Inventory Clerk performance, stock accuracy, sourcing parts and record/resolve stock order irregularities.
    • Improve the delivery of customer vehicle maintenance, including increasing technician efficiency and maintenance process design.
    • Manage and oversee the invoicing using POS while ensuring accuracy in invoice creation.
    • Oversee and manage company drivers, dispatch and on-time road recovery for our customers.
    • Any other duties at the discretion of the Kenya Country Director

    Minimum requirements

    • Minimum 5+ years of prior experience working in an Operations management role.
    • Experience working in automotive/ power systems is a Plus.
    • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Operations management, business administration, or related field
    • Strong communication, writing & Data analysis skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to make complex decisions and solve problems for charging stations using qualitative, quantitative, and financial data, while considering the impact of decisions on other teams and functions.
    • Demonstrated ability to strategically improve and/or transform processes across functions.
    • Demonstrated ability to strategically lead, motivate, and develop work teams towards improved performance.
    • Good comprehension of Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc).
    • Language: Fluency in English is required and Swahili is a plus.
