    Mentor (SOIL) - Balesa, Marsabit

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop a deeper understanding of the Nutrition sensitive poverty graduation model and the SOIL program components especially on nutrition, entrepreneurship and natural resource management.
    • Ensure quality program delivery of the scope, within time and on budget with a strong focus on individual accountability.
    • Ensure the program delivery meets BOMA’s standards for operational excellence and donor expectations.
    • Collaborate with the program partners including schools, health facilities and county government departments.
    • Play a key role in participant selection, training, mentorship and coaching, household dialogues, grants transfer, business startup and linkages to markets
    • Support participants to form Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) and link them to other formal financial institutions
    • Implement monthly Agri-nutrition training and Nutrition sensitive adaptations for nutrition resilience package for HHs and Groups under your mentorship including nutritional screening/Assessment, nutritional education and training (Agri nutrition), nutritional counselling, referral, HHs dialogues, HHs visioning and action planning.
    • Coordinate with Community Health Promoters to facilitate completion of linkages and referral of Severe acute malnutrition and moderate acute malnutrition cases every month.
    • In a collaborative process with the community (Participatory Wealth Ranking) and BOMA Location Committees, target and identify eligible women and children for the program, based on BOMA’s participant selection criteria.
    • Ensure data in BGs, SG record books is accurate and represent the true picture/performance of Businesses, savings and individual HH members.
    • Utilize all assigned monitoring tools and data collection tools as guided by Field Officer, M&E and IT departments.
    • Maintain all working tools, tablets and motorcycles in good working condition at all times, fuel logs and other repairs are submitted on time.
    • Sensitize participants on R4N interventions, graduation metrics and facilitate participants access to market, financial, Community Health Systems, production, weather, context information.
    • Work very closely with Community Health Promoters (CHPs), REAP Location Committees and other stakeholders in their locations to promote improved nutrition outcomes
    • Any other assignments as guided by your supervisor.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • At least a Diploma in community health and nutrition, public health, nutrition, community development, social work, or another related discipline.
    • At least two years’ experience in similar work; with proven experience in business coaching and data collection
    • Possess excellent interpersonal skills; candidates should be able to relate well to both the women with whom we work.
    • Have basic experience in mobile data collection and Microsoft office
    • Motivated, self-driven, and able to work with minimum supervision.
    • MUST be a resident, where of respective ward or village in which SOIL interventions will be implemented.
    • Good command of English, Swahili and local language.
    • Have a valid motorcycle license and experience of how to ride a motorcycle.

    Mentor LIFT NK- Loritit, Turkana

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage the LIFT Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP), that will help participants start businesses to uplift their living standards and ensure environmental conservation.
    • Provide mentoring to the agreed number of small business enterprises under the REAP – LIFT Programme.
    • In a collaborative process with the community and BOMA Location Committees, target and identify eligible women for the REAP – LIFT Programme, based on BOMA’s criteria – (using the Participatory Wealth Ranking and Participatory Rural Appraisal Tools)
    • Meet with established Business Groups (BGs) as required, help them make decisions about their business and provide mentorship and guidance as needed.
    • Conduct/deliver business and savings skills trainings including financial management to the businesses in the designated locations and surrounding manyattas.
    • Train and mentor, the Business Groups, green entrepreneurship, climate change adaptation, climate-smart technologies.
    • Support the mentors to ensure entrepreneurs succeed in production, trade, and value addition based on the green enterprises.
    • Perform a minimum of agreed visits per week to the business groups and savings groups for which you are responsible.
    • Collect data and information for individuals, business group performance, participation of BG members in savings groups, savings group performance, participants living standards, participation in climate change adaptations, and other relevant information.
    • Upload quality data and information on groups performance using the BOMA taroworks system (information management technology) as required.
    • Report on the businesses and savings groups’ performances to the Field Officer.
    • Represent BOMA in the designated location, including as a representative for the organization in local development committees.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Finance Officer

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Make data entry into the accounting system daily, ensuring that all expenditure incurred is entered in Business Central in a timely manner and reviewed with the Finance Manager on a weekly basis.
    • In coordination with Project Management Team and the Grants Manager help in budget preparation.
    • Ensure accurate identification, posting, tracking and allocation of grant-specific expenses within the general ledger.
    • Prepare bank reconciliation and submit for review monthly.
    • Extract, on request, grant/donor specific reports as requested; and ensure the same is reconciled with the appropriate grant budgets and contracts.
    • Ensure adequate support documentation and approval for all expenses.
    • Ensure all supplies, bills and costs incurred are approved by the appropriate staff and are paid for within a reasonable time – taking into consideration monthly cash flows.
    • Ensure compliance with BOMA’s financial policies and procedures.
    • Prepare and make journal entries necessary for adjustments, ensuring that the final audit report corresponds with the accounts as maintained in the accounting system.
    • Act as BOMA agent to the bank; make cash deposits and withdrawals and deliver instructions.
    • Initiate online bank payments and notify bank signatories for approval.
    • Ensure financial documentation, including expenditure back-ups from field offices are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
    • Provide any other financial information, as requested, and respond to any other financial queries during audits.
    • Verify all field expenditure requests, including petty cash, per diems, grant disbursements, fuel and communication allowances before making payments.
    • Process all staff travel advance requests and liquidations in in the financial system (Business Central).
    • Participate in annual budget-making processes; monitor budgets and produce Actual vs. Budget reports for review monthly basis.
    • Provide support to Cluster Office staff and work closely with them to ensure that financial information is accurate and up to date.
    • Ensure timely remittance of all statutory deductions monthly.
    • Ensure timely preparation of management and donor reports.
    • Support BOMA annual audits.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s Commerce Degree with at least CPA II.
    • At least three (3) years of Finance and accounting experience.
    • Commitment to the mission of BOMA.
    • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills for both in English.
    • Accurate and diligent financial reporting and monitoring skills
    • Ability to work respectfully and maintain productive relationships with people from different departments.
    • Results oriented, with the ability to identify problems, design interventions and oversee their implementation.
    • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficient in computer skills including Excel and Word. Experience using Business Central is an added advantage.
    • Excellent time management skills, ability to juggle competing priorities and meet deadlines.
